Manually create a disk logic/extended partition

So I would like to create a partition/logic extened manually reader but Win7 disk management doesn't have the possibility to let me do... I do 3 primart then it auto is a partition/logic extened drive, which I don't want, I want to do a partition/logical drive extened before 3 other partitions because I want too be able to resize partitions, I intend to do so with ease.

Use the diskpart utility in an elevated command prompt window.  The command will look something like this:

C:\Users\yourname > diskpart

DISKPART > select disk 0
DISKPART > create extended partition
DISKPART > create partition logical

Help on a command, type its name in the help command.  For example:

DISKPART > create partition
DISKPART > create partition logical

  • I can create "logical drives", but do not have an "extended partition" - listen to me?

    Hello

It's a no-brainer and I know not often asked the question, but I have not found a satisfactory answer. I use Acronis Disk Director 11 and have never had to worry about "extended partitions. I simply create "logical drives" when I reached the limit on the number of "primary partitions" on my drive. And yet everywhere you look, I find that I need to create the first "extended partition", which is defined as "an extended partition is a container that can contain one or more logical drives." It is the universal definition as every definition I've found the same bed. It's as if everyone uses this definition even without really explaining what an "extended partition" really is. All have made a leap of faith that that's all that needs to be said on the subject, even if not where is it explained what is this "container" and how it is created. Acronis made a reference to an "extended partition" in his glossary (if I remember) and leaves the matter as if it served no more utility. Someone explain to me how this "container" is created and why is it necessary I can create "logical drives" without ever invited to create an "extended partition."?

I can't wait to finally put this issue to rest,

    Thank you

In the past, creating another partition, the other then primary school, said to the user that an extended partition has been created and then immediately in the process of user intervention to create logical drives in the breast of the space newly allocated.  Logical drives ARE essentially the "extended partition" up to a maximum of three in the extended partition on an MBR disk, and this is the limit of three in car that was important to know.

In some ways, the information given at the time was better because it gave the user a more understanding of the functioning of the system. Nowadays, the vast majority of computer users are not experts and do not know how it works. They just want turn on and go... :-)

  • Can I shrink a logical drive and not the extended partition to a bare metal restore to a smaller drive?

The current configuration is a Dell T310 with a S300 controller, with all locations 4 hot filled with SAS drives.  The operating system is SBS 2008 (2008 Server/Vista), I intend to change the controller of S300 (software) controller, a controller (hardware) H700.  My concern is that the H700 brings readers a little smaller in size.

The typical arrangement of Dell's diagnosis, followed by a recovery partition partition (E :), followed by the system partition (C :), followed by a partition with a logical volume (d).  If I use Diskpart to shrink the D: 'partition', he let me with free space, not allocated.  Thus, it effectively reduces the logical drive, and the extended partition stays the same size as it was, with no way to reduce it.

The question is, if I shrink the logical D: drive and not the extended partition and then get backups of the system, I'll be able to a bare metal restore on the smallest virtual disk of the H700?

    That's what I did:
    -Released the S300 controller and 4, 450 GB, 15 000 rpm Cheetah RAID-5
-Replace the controller H700 and 2, 2 TB 7200 RPM in RAID-1 Constellations

    Results:
-Eliminates the possibility of falling on a disk space issue when restoring
-Increased the amount of available disk space.

    Hello

You have certainly reduced your options

The only legal Windows 7 download available is now Microsoft, as Microsoft has stopped DigitalRiver Windows 7 ISO downloads.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/en-us/software-recovery

But Microsoft only provides these downloads for Windows 7 keys to selling product at retail, not preinstalled OEM product keys (Dell, HP, etc.).

As you have licensed preinstalled OEM (Dell, HP, etc.), contact the manufacturer of your computer to order recovery media that they need to provide for a fee, if they still have them available.

Or you can also borrow the same exact retail edition DVD of Windows 7 and use your product key to reinstall.

  • Extended Partition resizing

My basic disk is divided into a single primary partition (c) "OS", system partition) and an extended partition (containing two logical disks, (d :)) 'programs' and (e :)) "Data files").)) Unfortunately, when I made this several years ago, 20 GB looked like plenty of space for the system/OS partition. Now, however, despite my efforts to keep everything except the elements specific to the BONES out of that partition, I'm out of space (c). (C) is less than 1 GB of free space, and I'm on tips to create a new 'space' (e.g., removal of Temp and uninstall files, reducing the size of the trash, disable Hibernation, movement of Page file, etc.). And when I created the extended partition, I used the maximum available space, so there is no unallocated space available, I can add to (c). So my question is, how I resize (reduce) the extended partition (which is entirely occupied by (d) and (e), each of them has to enough free space) in order to free unallocated space that I can then add to my partition system (C :)? A screenshot of my situation from the MMC disk management snap-in is displayed here. Thanks in advance for any help.

  • Removal of Extended Partition

I'm unable to reduce an extended partition in order to enlarge a primary partition (drive C). • convert a primary partition in extended partition

    Hello
I created a partition on my pc windows 7 (d) for data storage, but I discovered that it is defined as a primary partition, and not an extended partition. This gives problems with acronis backup.
How can I convert to an extended partition?

    I thought to...
1 copy the files from d: to somewhere else temporarily (no program, only the data)
    2 delete the partition.
3 increase in the size of the c: partition to cover the entire drive again (using the partition of windows 7)
    4. create partition d: again, taking care to specify 'expanded' this time (using the windows partition 7)

    Who is?
    Is there an easier way?
    Tom

Windows partition tool (diskmgmt.msc) does not come with all the tools that are easy to manage your disks, but I think steps below should be the way all about working your needs: the following steps is also more of: "how to create D (logical partition) disc in Windows 7."
You have to log in with the Admin account that ot must run under programs as an administrator.

    1. backup your data from your drive hard if you need to.
2 type diskmgmt.msc in start-> run. And press return to open the windows disk management tool.
    3. click right on "C:" drive and select Shrink Volume ", wait for the application to calculated the new size and click"Shrink"." You have now added "unallocated space" after C: you can use. (advice to fragment your drive first to get more additional free space).
    4. now if you create the new Volume (or Partition) with all the unallocated space, and is not the 4th Partition and then by default it will be "Primary Partition". So to get around with to
Keep creating small (I would 1 GB) Partitions up to what you do that 4th. "The 4th will default the ' Extended Partition (or you can say logical Partition). Be sure to allocate all the space remaining in the 4th.
5 delete these partitions of 1 GB that you created previously and you can expand "C:" or "D:" drive to use the free space created by removing these Partitions of 1 GB.
    6. so as a result, you should have 2 Partition:
    C: Primary Partition.
    D: extended logical Partition.

    I hope this helps.

It comes to the current state of the hard drive:

  • Satellite A300D - creating recovery disk problem

    Hello.

I have Toshiba Satellite A300D-11 t (extended A300D-11) and I would like to create recovery disk. Problem is that I can't run the Toshiba Recovery disk creation tool. There is no shortcut in the start menu.
I tried to run Program Files.

Program itself exists (or at least I think it does), there are files in the Program Files folder, in "Programs and features" program is also so I could remove it.
Simply click on the file TosRDC.exe (or any other file *.exe in this case) and it does not start.

For memory - recovery partition exists and has not been changed.

System - Vista Home Premium 32 bit.
    What should do?

    Hello

I would say to pick up the machine from the disk and then, immediately after the machine, you should try to create a recovery disk. It could be that something in the meantime destroyed some piece of software in your operating system that could be the reason of this problem.

Maybe not a very elegant solution but the only one that works every time.

    Hello!

I'm trying to install Windows on my iMac (late 2013, running 10.11.6) without success.  I created the ISO to a flash drive, but when I try to use the Assistant Boot camp, I am referred to the following screen:

I did my best to study solutions. The cause, by apple support discussions, is that there is another partition of pre-empting (stop) the wizard boot camp partitioning the hard drive.  I studied the partitions on my HDD after unplugging all devices and found this:

This shows the main partition: Macintosh HD, the bootcamp partition: BOOTCAMP; and 2 unknown partitions: "Apple HDD ST100DM003 Media" and the same * M004.  I was able to delete the first Apple ST100DM003 HARD disk partition and ran first aid on the fusion drive after that the second he would not remove.  Also, I can't delete the boot camp partition.  I keep getting the same message when I try to install windows on a partition of the fuser unit using Boot Camp Assistant - "Startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition".
