More than 100MB of traffic on a port FIN_WAIT_2 - process long gone

I have 100's of megabytes of traffic while a loooooooong (10-20 minutes), after that the process has spent on the port that once belonged to this process and is now in FIN_WAIT_2. I know that some will say 'impossible', but here is the proof: I used to be a network guy, doing same programming (Linux) kernel of the TCP (firewall) code so I know at least a little bit what I talk even if it was some time ago. In my view, I must say that, as all previous because these reports and discussions that I could find where met with disbelief.

I run Wireshark, so I can SEE the traffic, and it's all about the port that "netstat - year ' lists as"FIN_WAIT_2.

Reminder: This is twitch.tv and flow of video on demand (not live). I use the latest Flash and Firefox. Even when I do some (list of processes) that Firefox and the Flash plugin went network traffic continues to max my connection 16Mbit.

Connections (which are TCP-> HTTP) are data centers "Level 3 Communications' (a company), which is where the shaking hosts them (I checked that, and besides, as I said, I can see the traffic with Wireshark).

How can I stop this unnecessary traffic? How is it possible anyway? Yes, I know it is not lack of Windows, but I have no access to the servers of video at the request of jerk or the code of their flash video player. I * could * add manually a firewall block for the port, but I'm not even sure which would prevent the server continue to send packets, only that I can't - and this "denial of service attack" on my connection Internet would always be there.

I found this, and there is a sentence that gives me pause:

http://msdn.Microsoft.com/en-us/library/Windows/hardware/ff550023%28V=vs.85%29.aspx

"If an acceptable TCP segment arrives on the connection, before the expiration of the timer FIN_WAIT_2, unloading target restarts the FIN_WAIT_2 timer."

Given that these packages coming form the server (lots of them!) it seems that perhaps happens, which does not expire the FIN_WAIT_2 timer?

EDIT:

Maybe is not specific twitch.tv, as I watched my system more closely I noticed that it may be a general problem with playback of the video stream through Flash (on Firefox?).

EDIT 2:

This problem may be more widespread, here's a similar report for videos on Chrome (they don't say no HTML5 or Flash videos?): https://productforums.google.com/forum/#! Chrome/EupZB8aHVPM/section

in newsgrp, have file w/over million posts not downloaded, someone, long ago, I suppose. So far, I could post & clear, shows, all were read. But more vccan can't post. I tried the Clean Up program, but who does that for downloads, these have not been downloaded. Thank you

Unsubscribe the newsgroup. In tools | Options | Read, uncheck the box: get x headers at a time. Close and open OE and re-subscribe. This will download all messages on the server of the discussion group.

Now, if you just want these days, or so to create this rule before downloading.

Tools | Message rules | News.

Box 1: Where the message was sent more than days ago
Box 2: Delete it & stop processing more rules
Box 3: Click on 'Days' and choose the desired number of days.
    Name the rule.

When you go to, or subscribe to a discussion group, it will download only the messages for the number of days that you have selected.

Now you should be able to use catch-up for messages not downloaded.

Opinions on this vary, but in tools | Accounts | News | Properties | General, I include this account when checking for new messages checked. When OE automatically checks the e-mail (but often you defined for), it will also download all the new messages at the same time.

  • My laptop took more than 12 hours to install an update from windows and is still doing, and will not be closed.

I use Vista and an HP Pavilion laptop. I noticed the closing down and install updates logo was so I used it and my laptop started to install 2 updates (June 18, 2011). Finished the first, it was install the 2nd for more than 12 hours. The screen tells me not power off or unplug the machine.  The drive light flashes occasionally, it can come entirely for a second or two. What can I do? Surely it's far from since long to be normal and something went wrong.  The laptop keys are unresponsive. The cursor has changed to the blue circle by day and cycles but will not move with the mouse or key.  In the past, some updates took 3-4 hours, they have been great with more than a dozen of components, but never anywhere as long as it. I opened and closed the DVD several times, that works and is empty, just to see if anything's happening. What should I do? Should I continue to wait? If so how long? Can I really just ignore the warnings and turn it off and restart it?

  • New APEX listening port and more than 32K

    Hi all

Is the problem with the recording of high values (greater than 32 k) solved with the new listener APEX 4.0?

    Thank you
    Fadi.

    Samara says:
Is the problem with the recording of high values (greater than 32 k) solved with the new listener APEX 4.0?

The Apex team must answer as to what is expected for Apex 4.0, but the 32 k issue is twofold:

    (a) the bridge between the web browser/server and the database should handle more than 32 K string values (IE. CLOB).

    (b) the framework of the Apex (the procedure 'accept' who gets all values when you submit a page) must manage more string of 32 k values (IE. CLOB).

Now, the problem with one) should be easy enough to fix with the new listener to the Apex. If you want to use Microsoft IIS as a web server, see my [gateway Thoth | http://code.google.com/p/thoth-gateway/] which already supports the CLOB parameters. You'll always need to manage registration of great values through an application process (Ajax), due to problem b), which is that the framework of Apex does not use CLOB parameters in the current version.

However, since one) can be fixed easily in the listener of the Apex, but for Oracle set in the embedded PL/SQL gateway and in mod_plsql would probably take a lot longer because it follows the (slow) the database release cycles, I don't know if the Apex team will change the frame if the feature can only be used on one of the three doors (officially supported).

  • Toshiba NB550-111 - no connection if the LAN cable is more than 2 metres

    Hello

My newly purchased Toshiba NB550-111(Windows 7 Starter Service Pack 1) has problems with the LAN card.
If the LAN cable is more than 2 meters, no relation to Allied Telesyn switch (no indicator led on the switch, 2 other desktop computers already connected). I tried not to connect in a different port (one used previously by one of desktop computers), no connection. I tried with 3 cables, still no results.

Cables (cat5E, so important) have been tested OK before with a cable Tester, and I use both of them without any problem with another 2 desktop computers at home. I set another cable (5 m long, newly purchased) and tested for connectivity. It works very well with the other two offices, no results with the netbook. I tried with adapter it works, I disabled ' energy efficient ethernet "NIC, still no connection properties page. It only connects if the cable is less than 2 meters. I tried to connect the netbook directly to the DSL router, still no connection with a longer cable.

The device is reported by windows as work very well, and the test Toshiba utility ends there is no problem. Windows I configured in the Control Panel, the Plan balanced for maximum performance in the power options, still no results.
    Any ideas, please?

Mounting my drive hard exFAT fails more than 70% of the time in Windows XP.  I downloaded the Microsoft exFAT driver (Windows XP-KB985704 - x 86 - ENU.exe) and installed XP Service Pack 3.  However, when I turned the computer off and restart it, the disc will install.  I'm having this problem with several readers.  Looks like the player trying to get (new Windows hardware sound chimes when you plug in the drive).  Then rapidly thereafter dismantle it quickly sounded. When I take the car and plug it into my Mac, it is still rising.  Is it possible that I have to do something more to install the Microsoft exFAT driver?  The drive is made by G-technology.  I also tried to remove the disc before you turn off the computer and turn off the computer with the mounted drive yet.  Whatever it is, the reader is not recognized when I restart the computer.  I ran an on the disks and sometimes Apple disk utility, I get the message that the reader has a cluster to run repair disk.  After that, the player either go up or not.  There is no virus on the Windows computer.  The operating system is a novelty.  I use the system only to run AVID.   No other software is on the computer other than what came with it.  The computer is a HP 8600 workstation.  I mount the drive through a port firewire 400 on the computer using firewire 400 to 800 cable G technology.

    Hi motionpicturedirector,

It is possible that some third-party programs installed on the computer is causing the problem.

I suggest that you configure the computer in a clean boot state and check if it helps.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows XP by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

  • HP Pavilion 15-n268sa CPU time more than 90 just with running windows 8.1?

Hello, I've had this laptop for 2 days and today under its weight all sorts of strange things. several times it has disappeared from the black screen (not arrested, just as he had torn out battery and a loss of power). I got a message that there was a problem and windows were stopped and gave an error like 0xa0000001 or something.

but before that I have had that I was worried. some of the first things I did was to install some programs to reference. Speccy, cpuid, gpu - z. CPUID doesn't show the time, but speccy showed the hearts of the processor to make everything running at 80-90 with windows just sit and do nothing. It highlights something more than 80 in red. GPU - z shows the double with similar graphics, but about 5 degrees more down time and watch the map amd radeon hd 8670 M in much less time. a fan inside seems to be on, and when the time if abouve 95 seems to go up a gear. but I've seen speccy 106 c. time display!

I think that's what's causing the laptop to blackout and restart; time to go over 105 for any time at all. In short it works under windows, with sometimes even with power supply plugged into the laptop screen dimming. but try and run something, such as an internet connection, connect what either in the usb which is powered by the laptop ports, or browse the web - even not watch video or streaming just google search! - and the time jump up to the middle of the 90 or more.

Please no spamming no unnecessary links on the cleaning of the ventilation openings. its nine bought 2 days and it looked like when I turned on. There is nothing to clean the inside, unless he left the factory in this way.

is there a way I can force the fan on permanently full or close to it (the life expectancy of the fan against the ease of use of the portable computer of balancing) since the habit of fan noise bothers me as much as this thing will melt. its under warranty for another 362 days but that is not the point. im getting a laptop cooling thing (I had to buy an already, but its kind of asthma, but it hit off time 2degrees sometimes idling). times are more than 90 again I better post this before can't the black abyss. Help!

If your PC running too hot and very hot to the touch in less than half an hour of basic use, then it may be an unwanted material.

I suggest that you call the HP technical support and log a ticket your PC or their replacement after confirmation of the fault.

  • H730P with more than 8 drives

We have a range of R730xd servers with 2 x controllers RAID H730P, each with a 8 x 6 GB/s SSD attached. Servers are sold as servers '12 + 12' drive, and the chassis has bays for 4 more disks per controller.

When I read the H730P specification, I see that it is described as a controller to 8 ports, that raises questions.

    (1) are all the bays of 12 drives in each "section" usable? So, I guess because the server is sold as '12 + 12'.

    (2) are all 12-Bay by controller managed by the H730P, or 4 of them accompany the ports on the motherboard? If so, which of them are that they have limited (put in cache, RAID support, performance,...)?

    Best regards

    pcore
Can all 12 drives operate at full 6 Gbps?

Yes, all 12 drives can operate at 6 Gbps. If you want to get the full 12 GB/s SAS drives then you could fill a maximum of 8.

    pcore
I thought 1 player would use 1 port, or does he shares somehow port? If so, 8 drives operate at full 6gbps any berries I use or do I have to consider?

Yes, 8 ports use a form of port sharing. If you fill in more than 8 records 8 ports can divide. You can fill up to 16 drives per controller to achieve 6 Gbps. If you fill more than 16 that they will work to 3 Gb/s. Each port can support up to 4 devices.

    Thank you

    Hello

Thank you for the additional information.

Yesterday, I decided to register on IT * files .tmp on DVD and I removed them from the TEMP directory. I decided to do it because none of the processes they used at the time of my comment. I compared the the event logs for any new warnings or errors, but mistakes are appearing as before removal. The errors are:
-The parallel port driver service failed to start due to the following error: the service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices is associated to him.
    -Could not load the plug-in module. (GUID = {56F9312C-C989-4E04-8C23-299DEE3A36F5}) (Error code = 0 x 80042019)

I haven't checked on the first error, but it appears in the system log because I erased the corrupt system log - also before deleting the files.
The second is well known 'Vaio Entertainment Database Services' error (in the application log) and everyone invites you to remove this service from startup list. So maybe I'll do it.

My Vaio has now extra 7.5 GB of free space and has no performance or other problems (so far).

Today, I tried this (sfc/scannnow) system scan and the log is perfectly clean. Nothing has been repaired.
Also checkdisk returns nothing abnormal so I think the albums * .tmp not fail at any other SW. The other issue is how they were created, but as my log files have been corrupted (another known problem of vista), I will probably never know the answer.

If new sth will appear on the subject (e.g. new TOP * .tmp files), I'll write again.

    Thank you once again.

  • Switch Cisco Nexus 6004 removes more than 300 bytes IP packets

    Hi all

We have a circuit of wave level 3 10 G running between two switches Cisco Nexus 6004. The circuit came online between our two data centers (in the same city) without problem.

When attempting to ping to the remote-end 10G interface, it works very well with packets of 64 bytes. CDP is enabled and that we see the CDP information remote switch. However, if we increase the size of the ping to more than 300 bytes packets, we lose 1 in every 20.

We settings MTU verifed, type of cable of 10G and duplex settings.

Level 3A tested clean and we will move forward with more testing.

Any ideas on the problem? We feel the carrier out and end to test with their testers. But so far, the circuit's own test. I was not sure if it is something related to Cisco. I am at a loss at the moment.

    Thank you.

    Hi Mike,.

There is nothing wrong with your switches or circuit.  NEXUS devices have a default COPP on the control plan that limit the size and the amount of traffic that must be the CPU process.

  • WDS with AP and now I have more than 60

    Wireless domain services

    The problem:

I am using WDS in my wireless network environment, and a new building will bring counting the points of access to more than 60 years.

    The question:

What is the best WDS solution for this problem?

    Other Questions:

Is it possible to have 2 separate access points serve as WDS and divide access between them points?

I started the implementation of an other WDS on the same subnet and automatically, he went in the backup.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When my points 100 + access were autonomous, I initially had two different areas of WDS on VLANS separated. In the preparation of the conversion of autonomous LWAP, I found that it is better to do them all on the same vlan. In order to get around the limit of 60 APs, I put them both on the same switch WDS access points and put these two ports in protected mode, while they did not see each other.

    Example:

    interface FastEthernet0/1

    switchport protected

    interface FastEthernet0/2

    switchport protected

Access points would then contact one of the two AP WDS while the two WDS access points did not see each other. I'm sure this isn't an approved configuration of Cisco but it relieved my LWAP crossing. It should work for you well, but I would say that you can move to the access controller based points.

I have a GUY working with CSPC and SIP phones. Conference to several ad-hoc (with more than 3 parties) works perfectly when it is generated from phone SCCP. But when he tries to do so with a SIP phone (9951) it can only do the 3 participants.

I suspect it is not supported, no one knows for sure?

I have enabled hardware Conference. Just in case, here is the config:
