MSE - install - firewall?

I realize that MSE is delivered without a firewall.

I did the install for the family and a couple of friends and I can not for the life if remember what happened on the firewall.

I sent the link to an old friend for the MS of the site "how to install WSE etc etc" and he said that the video mentions nothing about replacing the firewall which will go when Norton is removed.

He has WIN XP SP3 with his current AV, so when uninstalled, firewall, I suppose, will go as well.

So far I told him of MSE dll on the desktop, disconnect the net - remove Norton - close all running progs and install MSE.  After installation check the Security Center to see if all the safety devices TURNED on, including the firewall before it reconnects to the network to get updates.

When I finally did, a few months ago, there was free AV more firewall ZA on this computer.  But I do not remember how I handled the appearance of firewall.  I don't remember having something more.  If the auto WIN Firewall will engage when it is performed by the Security Center that there is no firewall in place.  I have remove the AV and ZA before installing.

I had a trawl through the forum but you have not seen any reference to the firewall.

Ruined memory - I can go back 30-40 years and remember in detail - I must rely on the wife to remember what she told me to do last week.

The Windows Firewall must light up in itself, but if it is not, have your friend (s) to start the service (if necessary) and go to the applet of Windows Firewall in the control panel to ensure that it is and there is nothing listed on the Exceptions tab which should not be allowed.

Start > Run > services.msc [OK]

  • You want to uninstall Deep Freeze 6 utility after MSE installed but after the taskbar.

Before installing Microsoft Security Essentials, I had Deep Freeze 6 utility running. To install MSE, I had to "Boot Thawed" DF. Then I run MSE to scan my PC. Several viruses and spyware were found and removed/deleted. Here are the details of my concern:

    1. After analysis of my PC with MSE, my mistake was that I have reactivated Deep Freeze 6.

    2. a few days later I realized that I have more Deep Freeze so I decided to uninstall the system, but I can't find the icon more in the taskbar or in the control panel to remove the program

    3. I spent several hours trying to find solutions to retrieve Deep Freeze so I can uninstall it, went to programs files in the folder of Faronics, attempted to manipulate the icon that I saw thinking it would work, but it does not open as in the icon that appeared previously in the taskbar

4 tried the system restore, but because Deep Freeze has been activated, the PC goes to its original state and no restore point is created after booting up.

5 tried to seek solutions from other sites, not a function ctl + alt + SHIFT + F6, but nothing worked.

    6. I am using Windows Vista

Can you have solutions for me because I need to download the latest version of IE, and other files that I need for my research. Thank you.

    Hello

You can try the following procedure:

    1. Locate the installation file you used to install Deep Freeze on your computer. By default, the name of this file is called "DF5Std.exe" for versions 5.X and "DF6Std.exe" for versions 6.X.

    2. run the Installer (DF5Std.exe or DF6Std.exe).

    3. Select the option "uninstall."

4 Deep Freeze is uninstalled and your computer restarts.

If this does not help, then I suggest you contact Faronics for more support.

  • MSE installed, should I Win. Defender to run?

    Hello

I have Microsoft Security Essentials installed, which disables Windows Defender. My question is should I still Win Def running in the background? It appears in my start-up as Windows Defender MSASCui.exe - hide. Can I stop this process safely? I thank very you much.

You can safely stop the process (but the program starts anyway so it has no real difference, but it is perfectly safe to take as long as you continue to use the MSE).  You don't need Windows Defender if you and MSE.  MSE contains EVERYYTHING located in Windows Defender - think of it as a version of advanced with more features, functionality and opt.  In fact you don't want their race in the same time - which could cause conflicts, freezes, crashes and sll kinds other problems.

    I hope this helps.

When I go to shut down the computer, there is a big yellow exclamation on the Start button that says that Windows Update will install updates before its stop point. So it takes a while to stop.

I also noticed that in Windows Task Manager > process I have an iexplore.exe process * 32 running 120, 600 KB.

It stopped when I changed the Windows Update option stop the download and installation.

  • I can not start the Windows Firewall service in Windows XP SP3

I discovered this problem when I installed a new Brother MFC-7860 DW in my network. Although the computer can 'see' the machine, I can't print to it. The error coming from the troubleshooter has informed me that the firewall might be the problem. Now I find that I couldn't open the firewall. I tried the solutions in previous discussions. It seems that Windows Firewall is not yet installed on my machine even if the icons are in the control panel. When I tried MS Fixit for the firewall, it gave me an error and sent me to a web page that does not seem to address the situation. Help, please.
