My desktop icons are HUGE!
I have my own user account on the Windows Vista operating system. My account has this problem. The desktop icons are huge, about 4 times their normal size. I tried the thing of scrolling mouse control, and change the DPI, neither works. Does anyone have other ideas? It's very frustrating, it has only been like this 2 days so I don't know what happened. I have not downloaded anything new or go to Web sites that I have not visited. Thanks for the help.
Your desktop icons are probably assigned to the 'big '. To change back, do a right-click on the desktop, select "View" and choose "medium icons" or "classic icons".
I hope it works for you. -

This issue just started. Whenever I have turn off my monitor and then turn it back on, all my desktop icons are completely reorganized. This happens when my system goes into power saving mode, or whenever I have turn off the monitor. Even if I turn it back on just 5 seconds later, all of my icons are not where they were previously. Help!
Suggestions:
1 a simple way:
. Right click on desktop > view > uncheck Auto arrange > check snap to grid.2. in a more elaborate way and actually a better way. I use this method I have over 150 shortcuts etc on my desk. I can't afford to have shortcuts/icons, rearranging themselves. I won't be able to find anything, if they do.
Here is the tutorial:
http://www.howtogeek.com/HOWTO/Windows-Vista/save-and-restore-desktop-icon-layout-in-Windows-Vista/Note: The method is not perfect, you can, after a while, have one or 2 icons on the spot. But it's easy to fix.

The desktop icons are scattered after Windows updates
I just applied the February patched to my laptop running vista Home premium. I now have a new icon on the bar called "intel graphics media accelerator driver for mobile' tasks and my desktop icons are scattered. What's past and how to fix it. I can't find mention of the graphics accelerator intel in the list of applied patches.
Suggestions:
1. go into "View Update history" > mark down the KB # of you February patch.
2. If your Windows Update is set to Auto, change it to manual.
3. do a system restore. Choose the date before you install the latest Windows Update as your restore point.
4. If everything is back to normal after the system restore, ask a question in the Windows Update forum. Ask if this KB # is required to install or if you can ignore that.
at the moment I am unable to go to the Windows Update forum. So I can't give you the link to the forum. You will have to do it yourself.
5. soon you will receive the new update available. Check the update. If you find the same update you have problems with, don't install this one until you get the answers from experts in Windows Update. How to restore the system:
Start button > Search box, type system restore > press the Enter key > uac prompt > click on choose a different restore point > next > select dates as your restore point, click
> Next > finish
To sit and wait. The machine restarts when it's done. -
