New 8 Core processors and vSphere Licensing

Knowing that Standard and Enterprise support 6 cores per processor, Advanced, and Enterprise plusent support 12 cores per processor

Scenario #3

What happens if a company has a 5-node cluster, all cores quad double socket, a business license... And they want to add a 6th server that has 8 cores per processor, but they only need to use 6 of the 8 cores per processor, can they ask for this new processor 8 business licenses and use only 6 cores?

Or maybe just vCenter has an error?

No assumptions or opinions please.

Responded to this in another thread, but not sure that you are watching

June 15, 2010, VMware has released this statement: http://www.vmware.com/download/eula/multicore.html

Watching your script you EF two per socket Standard/Enterprise licenses to cover the 8 cores. The article explains better.

Kind regards

Not very useful to me on page 81 and 367 manual ist. Is there a better source?

Story: I am about to buy a new laptop that has a core i5 or i7 with two hearts and I think only 4 wires. Now I wonder if I can run two virtual machines at the same time, and how the settings are to do, if I want to allocate:

    (a) the base (or two threads) to a virtual computer

    (b) a wire to a virtual computer

    (c) a single thread to the host...

is is possible or do I have TO allocate two virtual machines for the same kernel?

When you create a virtual guest machine, you can choose how many virtual processors (vCPU) there.  If you choose to give it 2 or more vCPUs then the options you listed above control how VMware presents these vCPUs to the guest operating system.

For example, if you choose to give a comment 2 vCPU, then you can either have VMware to present the guest with 2 core processors (virtual) or a single processor dual-core (virtual).  Things performance will be the same, but this option exists because some software are allowed on a base by processor (instead of a per-core) so there may be an advantage permitted to configure your comments in a special way.

The settings above have no effect on how VMware plans to run on your host CPU processes.  By default, VMware will use all the cores available host regardless of how you configure the options above when creating your guests.

Now, with all this talk about several vCPU invited road, I should mention that my experience you will have the best performance if you set up your guests with a unique vCPU.   In a virtualized environment, multiple vCPU / customer does not necessarily in the best performance.  I strongly suggest you create your guests with 1 vCPU and only increase their number of vCPU if tests show that the performance is increased.

You will certainly be able to run several clients at once on your host computer.  If you persevere with 1 vCPU invited, you will almost certainly run in performance RAM problems or disk well until you encounter problems CPU host.

  • vCenter 5 and vSphere licenses 5

    Hello

My company built a new VMware vSphere environment 5.

All facilities will be new.  We will have 5 ESX host with 2 x processors on each host and 1 vCenter to manage the environment...

The proposed licenses to buy are the following.

    1 x vCenter license Standard.

    10 x Enterprise CPU licenses.

Is there also a requirement for the purchase of licenses of ESXi5 server host or vCenter agent licenses on these in order for vCenter manage hosts in vCenter? Or proposed purchases cover everything?

    Thank you

vCenter agent is included in your license of the company (with a bunch of other stuff like vMotion, etc.).

  • What are my options since I changed my motherboard and processor and now license is not valid?

Friends, I had problems with my old build of three year with windows 7 pro 64 oem.  only now, I discovered the reason for windows refuses to activate on new construction, that I had to do because of these problems. I didn't have to have a new motherboard and processor would make unnecessary the my copy of windows. It was in my mind that there where windows 'lived' was in the hard drive. one of the reasons why I had to build another 'computer' should make a visual studio 8 microsoft c ++ problem I could not find any solution. now after an unexpected and costly reconstruction, I don't have the money to get a new license. so now, I guess that in 13 days I no longer have a computer at all. It's incredibly disappointing for me. are there any other options out there for me? Thank you for your time and your consideration.

    Try again by phone:

How to activate Windows 7 manually (activate by phone)

    1) click Start and in the search for box type: slui.exe 4

    (2) press the ENTER"" key.

    (3) select your "country" in the list.

    (4) choose the option "activate phone".

    (5) stay on the phone (do not select/press all options) and wait for a person to help you with the activation.

    (6) explain your problem clearly to the support person.

If this does not work, you can simply register and purchase a new license.

Yes, POSSIBLE is not a requirement for vCAC (unlike vCloud Director)

  • 13 Firefox works in multithreaded mode and it can use the quad-core processors?

When you buy a new PC, we choose between dual core vs quad core processors, and some people claim that Firefox work mode multithreaded mulch and treats each tab in a separate process and may fully use the advantage of a quad-core processor. Is this true?

Firefox does not treat each tab in a separate process. If this can be a function in the future, I don't know of any plans to introduce any time soon. Obviously, buying a quad core processor will be significantly faster than a dual core, and your browser is usually less consume a lot of resources than other programs. I would not use it as your buying decision. Firefox will work just as well on a dual-core or a quad-core, but windows and other programs will work better with 4 cores.

  • Latitude E7450 processor and controller, E - 2, unstable configuration port of the U2715H - two monitors-

I have two monitors U2715H connected via a CDM-> DP cable each to a docking station E-Port Plus (in fact an Advanced Port Replicator EURO2) in which sits a laptop Latitude E7450 processor and controller. All items are brand new. E7450 processor and controller is equipped with 16 GB of RAM and two graphics cards: Intel HD 5500 Graphics and NVIDIA GeForce 840 M; selection is automatic, which usually means that the 5500 is running. It runs Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 (64-bit). The docking station has apparently DP 1.2 a capacity (for chaining) but DP 1.2 is disabled in both monitors.

I have correctly configured the system to have Windows desktop space both monitors at 2560 x 1440 resolution, even with screen internal latitude as a third request for an extension to its full resolution (1920 x 1080). The main screen can be set to one of the two (or three) and I can successfully move the sequence of monitors around (left, middle, right).

There is therefore no doubt about the ability of the system to support the planned configuration. However, when I dock the Latitude (most with the lid closed) and start, most of the time he is unable to restore the configuration of the two external monitors. Some of the symptoms are: one or two monitors go black, indicating the cable connected but no signal from the docking station. If there is a picture on one of the monitors at startup, it may or may not contain the login screen. (I can still log in because I know which keystrokes to send.) If the login screen is visible, it is usually in low resolution. If I have several active screens, but one is black, I can move the mouse pointer (or an entire window) on the screen black (in the middle or on the side), but it is not visible here.

Both monitors come right out of the box and the only change I made is to move from the DP to the mDP as input channel. I reinstalled the cables and exchanged the cables between the two DPs on the docking station. I turned the market monitors. I ran the self-test the requirements on both monitors. The connection of the laptop on the docking station is a little wobbly, but I use the spacer provided for the E7450 processor and controller and making sure the connection is correct and stable. I've updated all the drivers and BIOS of processors E7450 and controller. I recently saw a reference to a BIOS for the docking station; I didn't know it existed, but I'm not.

The installation instructions provided with the monitors were a note on consulting the CD provided for the use of the screen to maximum resolution. E7450 processor and controller is not an optical drive, but I read all of the documentation for the monitor to Support technical without finding what whatsoever to shed light on the situation (in addition to ensure that the graphics card and drivers are up to the task).

Once I connected, I can manage to make it all in order by randomly (?) lower the resolution of the screen, change the position of the main screen (left-center-right), deselection reselection CDM as entry way and forcing other changes. Once the two or all three screens in operation, I can put them all to maximum resolution and beginning of work. However, it is rather annoying and I would like to have a stable configuration.

The configuration seems to survive power cycling of the laptop / station but not if I also disconnect the laptop. I should mention that when I detach the E7450 processor and controller, I can use it in other configurations, with or without other external monitors through other ports, before turning it off and later re - anchor as described. However, for the first month I had two old non-moniteurs Dell of any resolution (on DVI and VGA ports) connected to the docking station and the configuration is stable, and for years I used for my older Latitude with a docking station that is older, remembering his device between different hardware configurations.

Please, someone - and Dell support staff in particular?

  • PowerCLI - get the number of cores per processor and number of Sockets

    Greetings,

We are responsible to give a list of all our virtual machines with their host name, the number of CPUs, the BONES and the number of cores per processor for verification.

I immediately said that this would not be a problem with PowerCLI. However I seem to have more trouble with it than expected.

Get the number of CPUS is not a problem, but the time wherever I want to divide the number of cores and the number of sockets, it seems to hit a dead end.

I found the following entries of the community concerned:

Re: vSphere 5. Casings of vCPU and cores per CPU (PowerCLI) bug

Machine virtual access avancΘs | VMware vSphere Blog - VMware Blogs

Parameters to retrieve and set Advanced Configuration (VMX) VM

But neither seemed to give me the right input. The advanced configuration settings do not appear to contain the number of cores/sockets and Get-View and Get - VM normal controls do not seem to differentiate between carrots and the power outlets and just give the number of processors.

Because we need these settings for a check I doubt I'm the first to need this information. Does anyone have an idea how to get this information?

Please note that it is the number of cores and casings of a VM, not an ESXi host.

    Thanks in advance,

    Bram

  • VSphere license and view question

I am confused with some of the licenseing I. Go to the portal I have a few new licenses that have been purchased but I was unable to get a good understanding on what the finctionality has each license.

My concern is the following two licenses.

1 virtual Center 4 standard for view - what is this turn? It seems that the only view was through the connection to the license server. So I added my view licenses 4 Ent and the Prime Minister in the connection to the server. What is the right way?

2 Vsphere 4 for computer to office don't know what it is.

    Thank you.

You have purchased licenses for ESX and vCenter just for the placement of virtual machines that will be connected using VMware View. Will have the same features as the standard version of vSphere, but you will have a number of VM and not licensed per processor. And, of course, use it as a non-vue environment is not compatible EULA.

  • How confirm a dead processor and get a new one?

I have a desktop HP bought three years ago. The specs are below.

The processor seems to be dead. The hard drive is fine. Food seems to be OK, the Green LED on the back being activated

The Office was beautiful, but he gave me sounds of fans inside. So I turned off, looked inside to look for trouble, then I turned on it, the screen remained empty forever. The motherboard seems to show signs of life because the light on the Ethernet Jack is on. I open the heatsink and removed the processor and clean dust and residues, but the office is still dead.

My questions are: how to confirm the processor died before ordering a new, and the second question is what processor to get? Is it a sold by Wal-Mart compatible? It uses the same socket

  • Will be the new processor and card motherboard BIOS OEM Retail Version work?

    HI :)

I put upgraded my CPU to an AMD X 4 945.  My motherboard requires a BIOS update to accept the new processor.  I have a commercial version of OEM of Vista 32 installed and have the DVD to reinstall from.  Will I be possible to reactivate the operating system with the new processor and the new installed BIOS?  I know that the new motherboards are a new PC and so the OEM license is inavalidated, but it is just the CPU and the motherboard BIOS so I'm not sure.

    Thanks for any help :)

There is no such thing as an OEM version of detail; There are retail or an OEM license.

  • I have a retail version of Windows 7 (home premium). I buy a new motherboard, processor and RAM. Will be my install of Windows 7 function properly?

As mentioned, I have a full commercial copy of Windows 7 Home Premium and I'm on the point to replace my motherboard, processor and RAM.  Windows 7 will work properly?  If this is not the case, what should I do to make this happen?  Thank you!

    Hello

With a license for the retail of Windows 7, you can change any material you want.

You will probably have to reinstall windows 7 as the 'old' motherboard drivers will be always installed on this drive hard (if you use the same drive where Windows 7 is already installed), so that he will probably not start correctly.

You can even move a license to retail to another computer if that never fails

The rule is: a license for a single installation.

    (A) if the automatic activation service informs you that she has failed and cannot help with activation, then STAY ON THE LINE and your call will be transferred to an operator of activation which will help you to activate your copy of Windows 7.
