NFS and Exchange 2007 VMDK datastore

If I have a big NFS Datastore (E.g. 1 TB) does make sense to create different VMDK for log files and database for Exchange 2007? The entire data store will run on 10 discs. The performance increase if I separate the VMDK?

The design of your storage groups is less a review of virtualization and more of your Exchange environment.  How many storage groups, storage group users, etc., may differ according to the specific needs of your organization.  If you need storage for four groups, I put all four on a single VMDK to make things simpler.  Also, I'd create a separate VMDK file for the newspaper that another Envoy said.

If you need to create separate records for each of them, then you'd have 4 storage groups VMDK and 4 more newspapers.  The complexity of managing that alone would make it worth it.  And even once since he was on the same piece of storage shared with the same number of underlying PIN as your performance will be substantially the same.

Hi, using either 'e-mail BlackBerry and Services SDM 4.1.2 simulators' or 'email BlackBerry and Services SDM 4.1.4 simulators' my (OS4.2/8100) Simulator is setup and works well in stand-alone mode, against a local perspective, but connected mode is unable to retrieve messages from Exchange 2007 POP3 service.  Newspapers of the ESS include:

The logs indicate that authentication is working properly.  Why did he would jump new messages, I add to the Inbox?  I saw another link for the same problem that suggests that maybe it's a bug with the ESS and Exchange 2007.  Is it?

    Thank you

I was not able to reproduce this.  No problem, messages received when connecting to an Exchange 2007 server.  Are there other applications, access to the mailbox that can change the State of the message (delete, mark as read, etc...)?

  • Exchange 2007 and Cliq

I can't add an Exchange 2007 account in Corporate Sync. I have an Exchange 2003 account works fine, but the Exchange 2007 keeps saying invalid account information. I use the generated self Cert deployment Exchange and not a public cert if it matters. I also tried to use SMTP on Port 587, I can receive emails, but cannot send via this method. I tried 2 different Exchange 2007, OWA on the two exchange 2007 servers is defined and works very well.

I agree, if you can connect with the touchdown, then other connections should be good. I just re-read your first message.

I think your self generated cert is the problem. There is no root to validate the cert self-produced, and from what I can tell there is no way to install certificates root on the Cliq. Reading the android forums, there is no central key database on Android, each application maintains its own keys and the root certificates.

Touchdown, have its own store of certificates and import tool. Also, true touchdown push. Construction Enterprise sync tool is every 15 minutes.

  • ESXi 5.1 - Exchange 2007 - file Page memory and CPU allocation

I'm currently migrating a class Cluster CSC Exchange 2007 running on vmware on windows 2008, 2003.  It is also a SCC Cluster.  I followed all of the vmware and MS best practices, but not sure of one thing IM is the size of memory and CPU allocation page/swap file.  I have 5 Esxi hosts and each is running only Exchange 2007 comments according to vmware and MS recommendations when you use the Clustering of CSC.

Each host has 2 CPUs to 6 cores per processor and 48 gb of Ram and that each host will have only a guest, would like to send it to the guest.  I read somewhere that it is recommended this page exchange 2007 memory size + 10 mb file.  Do I really need to get the page to the size of the file?  250 GB of disk space is a lot for swap files! IM also not sure what to set the allocation processor too.  If someone can point me in the right direction, I would be grateful.

    Thank you

    Dave

    Hi dlargeit,

First of all, off - welcome to the VMTN forums!

I'm with Josh26 I've ever seen any recommendations indicating that when a CCS cluster virtualization virtual machine by host is taken in charge. It is recommended to keep only a single node SCC by host (which is true for all virtual clusters or technologies like Exchange CSC/CCR/DAG), but there is nothing specific regarding the keep only a single virtual machine by host.

On the file page, you are actually right on that.  For Exchange 2007, the paging file must be on the amount of memory configured as well as 10 MB to account for overhead costs of the kernel.  It is recommended by Microsoft and it is planned to provide enough space page Exchange should exchange more provide the necessary overhead if meet you a server failure and need to create a complete memory dump.

You can find this recommendation here: http://technet.microsoft.com/library/aa996719 (EXCHG.80) .aspx

In terms of CPU allocation, which should really be made according to your individual needs rather than just give all the resources the VM on the ESXi host.  Microsoft lists the maximum recommended for processor resources (Planning Processor Configurations: Exchange 2007 help) and it says that 12 hearts is the maximum for mailbox or Hub Transport box.  Is your really big enough environment need a lot of CPU resources?  Why not start small and increase it if necessary?

You are in control of your own destiny in some of these configurations.  If you know the recommended page file size is 10 MB of RAM +, do not give the server more RAM is really needed, or you will have to pay for it in the consumed disk space to host the pagefile.  See the guide to memory resources (Planning Memory Configurations: Exchange 2007 help) to understand the maximum rates of memory for Exchange.  You will see that the maximum memory is 32GB, so there are very few reasons to assign all 48GB of RAM on your server, if it can even use.

In short, the size of the server based on the real needs and I am confident, that you will have a virtualized Exchange system that performs as well as physical.

  • Snapshot with Exchange 2007 and AD backups?

    Hi all

I was wondering if best practices in ESX4 changed regarding snapshots for backups go. Is still a bad idea to take a snapshot of your Exchange and AD server? As I know that in the last restore from a snapshot in a situation of failure total was not recommended for AD or Exchange. This changed at all or anyone has tested this more in detail?

Also as far as backups go it is always advisable to make an announcement file level backup and exchange with your agent of backup software (IE. Backup Exec Agent 12.5 Exchange / AD agent, ect)

A lot depends on how you have the Exchange Setup program.  You have your database and logs on the VMDK files?  RDM?  All these things will make a difference on how you protect the virtual machine.  In my view, there is no size unique all the backup strategy for virtual machines and applications, so it depends on what your environment looks like.

I have the environments that use snapshots and vRanger to connect to VMS Exchange backup.  But the restore strategy depends on what actually happens to know which method is used for the restore.

  • Exchange 2007 and NetApp FC

    Here's the skinny:

1200 + users. approx. 600 GB data messaging; 1 CASE/HTX server & 1 Server MBX under EXC 2007 Enterprise 64-bit, server 08.  We have a lot of equipment and storage for the design.  I have questions on is the configfor of the vm to the server of the mailbox.  I had intended to give the vm vHDD 2.  1 vmfs containing BONES and such and the 2nd vHDD would be a RDM to FC SAN volume.

All thoughts, recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I would create readers separate newspapers and mailboxes, databases between 500 GB and more boxes to the letters and 100 GB for logs and each environment varies so plan accordingly.  Did you check NetApp & Exchange 2007 on VMware best practices for different scenarios and designs.  Here's a quick look at http://www-download.netapp.com/edm/TT/docs/NetApp_VMware_Exchange_TR.pdf I'm assuming you use CCR so plan carefully for optimal performance and layoffs.

  • Exchange 2007 and VMWare snapshots

    Hello

I did a few tests with Exchange 2007 and use it with VMWare. I ended up crashing the Exchange to the point that I could not restore it without making a recovery, so I decided to go back to a snapshot I took about five days earlier. Snapshot of restoration went well until I started the Exchange 2007. I could not Exchange databases to mount. I couldn't get around this problem and I had to reinstall to lose more mail databases.

Is there something with the snapshoting who does that? I know that running databases can be difficult snapshot safely, but oracle atleast never fell down due to a restore.

Your best bet and the cleanest method would be to create a series of scheduled tasks.

    1. Guest virtual stop at programmed time

    2. Snapshot of virtual hosts

    3. Power on virtual guest

This must be done for all the virtual hosts which depends on a database of any kind (Exchange, SQL, Oracle, MySQL, etc) If you plan on relying on instant VMware as a method of recovery after a disaster.

  • Exchange 2007: Disk Considerations

We plan to virtualize Exchange 2007 environment.  It will be built from scratch - not a P2V conversion.

I read the forums and some documents, in particular the virtualization of Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 and Exchange Server 2007 Design Considerations

But I have a few questions on the layout of the disks.  Our ESX 3.5 hosts are connected to a SAN NetApp using fibres.  The data store would be OK to work inside the virtual machine (on a VMDK independent of the OS?)

I had other people recommend that the data store is mounted outside the VMDK, perhaps via fcp, cifs or iscsi?

    Thank you

    Shane

Even if several Exchange 2007, SQL 2005, file servers tend to use the RDM solution, but as you know VMFS/RDM pretty much has the same performance so certainly not on performance but it would be personal preference. Many people like the flexibility to manage VMFS comments readers and others prefer RDM it varies. I use most of it well RDM mode but plan physics/logic mode accordingly because each has a different use.

  • Installation of SSL in Exchange 2007 Powershell

    Hello

An SSL certificate for a client has expired recently and we have purchased/installed a new to replace it.

"IIS, SMTP, IMAP & POP" services are currently assigned to the new certificate however when you try to connect their OWA site, he always picks up the details of the cert has expired.

I went as far as remove the certificate expired completely and once more, connecting to the OWA, old details again site.

Completely lost now and would appreciate a lot of suggestions.

  • Exchange 2007 SP3 increase in message size does not work why?

I have a windows server 2008R2 with Exchange 2007 SP3, currently the maximum to send and receive message size is 30 MB. My MD needs to send an email which is 60 MB.

I went through and changed all the parameters in which I expect to do. If I run best practices, it signals that the Send connectors and the receiver are high at 60 MB. Fine, I said.

I open Microsoft Outlook 2007 and try to attach several files to 5 MB per element. Outlook has that attachments are great when I get to 29 MB.

This is only a temporary job, so not worried, but can, my concern is what's wrong.

We had Exchange 2007 running on windows 2008R2 who say it cannot be done while we had a server crash. I had to transfer exchange on a temp server. I've migrated on the main server which is brand new but this time, I installed Excahnge 2007SP3. I don't know if this migration has nothing to do with it.

    Any help would be great
