Notifications do not close automatically

I turn to a Mac after more than 30 years with a PC.  I now have problems with notifications.  They do not close until I click on 'Close' or 'reply '.

I tried to use the command defaults write com.apple.notificationcenterui bannerTime terminal 5

but that didn't help - they always stay open until I click "close".

Is it possible to fix this or should I just manually close each notification?

Thank you.

Hi Steve

Assuming that here you receive a 'Notification' as a warning message and you click on the close button

This behavior is defined in the system for different notifications preferences.

Open System Preferences is to the title of the Apple in your bar menu or via the icon in your Dock.

Click the Notifications icon

On the left side, you will see all the various applications that use Notifications

As you click on each application the "banners" or the 'Alerts' button become highlighted (blue)

Banners display notifications for a short period. Alerts stay until rejected.

You choose how they behave. I suspect that most of your applications are set to the alerts, just click on banners (or none) to change the behavior.

Some, like you might have as a persistent warning, while others like the banners of reminders.

Enjoy your Mac

Hope this helps, Greg

  • New message notifications does not disappear automatically

    Hello, everyone.

I've had Skype for about two years now. Since I got it, it was convenient that the new message notification seems to go away when I look at the Skype window.

Well, this is more the case.

The new message notice persists, but it isn't permanent, fortunately. It goes away after I have send a new message to the group, or until I manually "mark as read".

It's not a big deal, but it is rather annoying that it does not have its own more. I already tried to restart Skype and that does not seem to solve the problem.

  • Icons in the taskbar Windows 7 (notifications) does not not at the start. [SOLVED]

Question: It started a few days ago, I'm not sure what has changed (no updates to anything und do not clean my comp so far here). When starting, but not load my system tray icons/notice. There is a select statement 3 charge that are supposed to, but there should be more (like volume, wifi, (I have disabled power), etc.) There is 1 which is not supposed to because it is hidden completely.

    3 loading (assumed):

~ Intelligent ram (advanced care system)

    ~OpenOffice.org Quickstarter

    ~ Avast icon

1 who is responsible (not not supposed to):

~ Synaptics Pointing Device (touchpad for laptop, I have the touchpad disabled permanently, so I completely hidden icon (no notifications).

Icons that are supposed to load:

Shown (visible in the status bar)

~ Intelligent ram (advanced care system)

    ~ Connection/Wifi signal strength

    ~ Volume

Hidden, but display notifications (accessed via popup "Show hidden icons" arrow)

    ~OpenOffice.org Quickstarter

    ~ Avast icon

    ~ Action Center (flag)

(I think there's one more, but I don't remember.) It could have been 'Power', which I think, but it is completely hidden, as in the system icon is disabled)

    What is already:

~Notifications/what watch is already very well tuned for my taste. I just got set to "Show icon and notifications", stuff the value "notifications only." (Ergo, it resides in my region 'Show hidden icons' through arrow, but is not visible otherwise.) Und stuff put not show at all.)

~ Windows is up to date.

~ Drivers are all up to date.

~ System is cleaned (Spyware, Malware, Antivirus, General Computer Care) a few times a week, has been cleaned out of turn, in order to help solve.

~ Regardless of the icon is not displayed, programs, still work properly.

    What has been tried:

~ To reboot first, simple. Nothing.

~ Searched online, find the regedit, removed IconStreams und PastIconStream in the registry, kill explorer.exe, run explorer.exe. Voila, my icons were back. Except for some I had to modify the settings on back to what I wanted. That was supposed to be the end of it. ... It wasn't. Model began the next day, icons were not loading right. The same 3 icons has charge. Tried the regedit with a reboot... Nothing helps.

~ I tried Regedit und journal/off voltage. Zip, they go back to does not properly.

So, I wonder why the regedit isn't sticking. Personally, I don't find yet, everything which would be somehow in conflict with this, especially since the wifi turns on automatically does not show in the taskbar, or volume. Everything seems to work fine, so I don't understand why some of them are not loading. The only way I know to make the back is with regedit. But in doing so each time I start my computer is pretty boring.

Search for a solution: What can I do to remedy this? Everything I looked at gives me "update drivers, windows update, virus/malware research, make regedit (mentioned above), log off / on, restart" that have been tried.

    Thanks in advance.

    UPDATE *.

Alrighty, I tried to start in safe mode, a boot minimum then tried und tool File Checker system, nothing that was of any help either.

So, as a last ditch effort... I did a startup und repair selected a Restore Point.

Solution: My icons in system tray restored to a previous state until I started having problems, are evidence of as it should.

    UPDATE *.

Obviously, I have solved my problem, but I have to mark an answer for them to consider that it solved und I can not put my own answer to select. So I chose the one who has not fixed it, but would probably be someone elses.

    Hello

Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

This could be due to several reasons, including missing or corrupted file system. I really appreciate the efforts made to try to resolve the problem.  We will try these steps and check to see if they help.

Method 1: Method 1: Start the computer Safe Mode and check if the problem persists. If the problem does not persist in safemode, turn on your computer in a clean boot state and check.

Step 1: Start the computer in Safe Mode

Safe mode is an option of troubleshooting for Windows that starts your computer in a limited State. Only basic files and drivers needed to run Windows are started. The words Safe Mode appear in the corners of your monitor to identify which Windows mode you are using.

Please refer to: start your computer in safe mode

Step 2: Perform a clean boot in order to avoid any conflict of third party software.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

Place your system in the clean boot state helps determine if third-party applications or startup items are causing the problem. You must follow the steps in the article mentioned below to perform a clean boot.

How to perform a clean boot in Windows

Note: see 'How do I reset the computer to start normally after a boot minimum troubleshooting' to reset the computer starts normally after troubleshooting.

Method 2: Run the System File Checker tool

System File Checker is a Windows utility that allows users to find corruptions in Windows system files and restore the damaged files.

To do this, click Start, type command or cmd prompt in the Search box, right click invite, and then click run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click allow.

At the command prompt, type the following command and press ENTER:

    sfc/scannow

Note: Do not close the command prompt window until the audit is completed 100%. The results of the analysis will be posted when this process is complete.

Hope this information is useful. Please feel free to answer in the case where you are facing in the future other problems with Windows.

  • 12 iTunes does not start automatically when I connect iPhone 6s

I have a desktop Windows 10 new and I connect my 6s iPhone more synchronization with Outlook, every day.  When I connect my iPhone, iTunes not open automatically as it has always done in later versions.  If I manually open iTunes, then the iPhone syncs fine, but I would like to do this annoying extra step every day.

I have read several posts on this topic and here is what I tried:

    -J' I uninstalled/reinstalled iTunes

-J' checked I have the vs 12.4.3.1 of Windows and iTunes updates

-I went to Device Manager > Apple Mobile Device Driver > pointed to: \Program Apple Mobile Device Support\Drivers updated and referred 'the driver is up-to-date.

-In iTunes > edit > Preferences > devices > prevent iPhone sync automatically is not checked

-In iTunes > my iPhone > summary, is checked automatically sync when this iPhone is connected.  I also tried unchecking it, apply, close/reopen iTunes and then check again with the same result.

-J' have tried using a different USB port

In addition to this, when I connect my iPhone to a different USB port, Windows gives a saying "Select to choose what happens with this device.  When I click on it, Windows provides about 5 options on how to import the device or to open an application when the device is connected, but iTunes is not in the list of apps to select from.  In addition, in older versions of Windows, there is a link to select a different program from your pc to use if it wasn't in the shortlist and this link/option is no longer there it that it seems impossible to select iTunes opens automatically when the iPhone is connected.

FYI, I had exactly the same problem on my old pc once it has been upgraded to Windows 10.

Does anyone know how get iTunes opens automatically when I connect my iPhone?

I suspect that you need to tell Windows not to do anything, make sure that the iTunes Helper application is configured to run on start-up (activation/deactivation of the next triggering and to solve this problem) and in iTunes, select the device and choose the option to run iTunes when the device is connected.

I also have the same problem.
I bought a laptop more than two weeks ago, I turned on and it started downloading the updates for Vista. (I have Vista Home Premium)
Then when I turned off my laptop, you could see that Vista was installing updates before power off.

When I restarted the laptop, I have the same problem that jmwmh has.
Several programs of the control panel will not open, as the update of Windows, user accounts, Parental controls, etc. They open and close automatically.
I even used the recovery DVD and reinstalled Vista several times, but after some time, the problem returns.

I even tried to disable Windows Update, because I discovered that it was after an update of Vista that my laptop has gone mad, but STILL it downloads an update and installs it without my permission.

I have administrator rights, so this isn't the problem...
