Number of processors and hardware migration

2 questions:

I saw this tutorial on how to clone virtual machines for copying just in browser store data and add it to the inventory again.

Is - this kosher? can it cause problems? Its a freebsd AMD64 bit installation 9.

Also, is it safe move a virtual machine like that of a desktop computer hp with a core2duo on a hp dl360 xeon?

And finally, these two machines are quad-cores; should I set the number of virtual processors in vsphere 4 or leave at 1?

You have to look at what resources they each need, certainly if the production needs of the processing power of 2 vCPUs then giving it 2 and splitting the two other the dev and the sandbox would probably be best. If the capacity of the pre implementation planning is not possible start us with 1 vCPU by machine in our environments and increase if needed.

The majority of virtual machines, I've worked on that have been very well when the scaling vertically with the number of processors, but as I said, it's especially windows and red hat. This message speaks to the situation for Windows Server 2003, but I imagine that there will be some similarities. http://communities.VMware.com/thread/29415

I think you really need to test, to perhaps build a single vCPU system. From a 4 to a vCPU 2 should be good because they will always use a multiprocessor driver.

I hope this helps!

  • Number of processors and cores in AWR report

    Hello

I have a report AWR to my system and a couple of entries confuse me.

Q1. It's showing 3 carrots, 2 Sockets and 4 processors. The CPU and the Sockets, I understand that 2 chips with 2 processors per chip so 4 CPU.

What confuses me, is the fact that it shows 3 carrots. Is that that by CPU cores? Othererwise 3-4 makes no sense?

Q2. What is the difference between DB, time CPU and CPU DB?

My understanding is that DB time is the time used by the process, including the time processor and wait time. Because a system can have more than one processor, it is quite natural that DB time may exceed to elapse time - since you have multiple processors that contribute to this time (I guess that DB time cannot be really more time elapse * our processors?)

In fact, you could say if DB time does not exceed the time to elapse, then you have a Nock idle system?

My understanding of time CPU, is that it's time where each process actually gets treatment CPU (so it does not time-out). I think that the AWR report confusingly used the term time CPU and CPU DB, to mean the same thing?

    clearly greatly appreciated

    Jim

    Hi Jimbo,

Q1. "Nuclei" in the CWA report represents the quantity of physical processor cores and the "processors" takes into account the simultaneous multithreading so in your case, one option could be a CPU Socket has a dual core (not type hyperthreading) and the other CPU Socket has one heart (hyperthreaded). If this is the case, you will have 3 physical 4 CPU cores, (because it takes into account the hyper-threaded architecture) and 2 taken. It's just an option, you will need to check it out.

Q2. No-Idle wait events are events that are not classified by Oracle as a "Idle" of events to wait wait:

    • Example of Idle wait-event: SQL * Net client message (server process is waiting for the client process to do something)
    • Idle wait-event example: db file scattered read (event waiting user IO representing a multilock read as full scan of the table or full scan small index.
    • You can get a complete list of active waiting events by running:

    Select name from v$ event_name where wait_class <> "inactive".

    • You can get a full list of the events of inactive waiting by running:

    Select name from v$ event_name where wait_class = 'Idle '.

DB time is therefore the sum of all events of active waiting and also the CPU time that is a statistic:

    • You can see the value of the amount of time CPU in 10s of miiliseconds (centisecondes) for an exeuting session:

    SELECT THE VALUE

FROM v$ sesstat JOIN v$ statname USING (statistics #)

WHERE name = 'CPU used by this session' AND SID =

    • You can see the value of the time total CPU in 10s of milliseconds (centisecondes) for the instance of exeuting:

SELECT the value from v$ sysstat

WHERE name = 'CPU used by this session.

When you create a virtual guest machine, you can choose how many virtual processors (vCPU) there.  If you choose to give it 2 or more vCPUs then the options you listed above control how VMware presents these vCPUs to the guest operating system.

For example, if you choose to give a comment 2 vCPU, then you can either have VMware to present the guest with 2 core processors (virtual) or a single processor dual-core (virtual).  Things performance will be the same, but this option exists because some software are allowed on a base by processor (instead of a per-core) so there may be an advantage permitted to configure your comments in a special way.

The settings above have no effect on how VMware plans to run on your host CPU processes.  By default, VMware will use all the cores available host regardless of how you configure the options above when creating your guests.

Now, with all this talk about several vCPU invited road, I should mention that my experience you will have the best performance if you set up your guests with a unique vCPU.   In a virtualized environment, multiple vCPU / customer does not necessarily in the best performance.  I strongly suggest you create your guests with 1 vCPU and only increase their number of vCPU if tests show that the performance is increased.

You will certainly be able to run several clients at once on your host computer.  If you persevere with 1 vCPU invited, you will almost certainly run in performance RAM problems or disk well until you encounter problems CPU host.

  • PowerCLI - get the number of cores per processor and number of Sockets

    Greetings,

We are responsible to give a list of all our virtual machines with their host name, the number of CPUs, the BONES and the number of cores per processor for verification.

I immediately said that this would not be a problem with PowerCLI. However I seem to have more trouble with it than expected.

Get the number of CPUS is not a problem, but the time wherever I want to divide the number of cores and the number of sockets, it seems to hit a dead end.

I found the following entries of the community concerned:

Parameters to retrieve and set Advanced Configuration (VMX) VM

But neither seemed to give me the right input. The advanced configuration settings do not appear to contain the number of cores/sockets and Get-View and Get - VM normal controls do not seem to differentiate between carrots and the power outlets and just give the number of processors.

Because we need these settings for a check I doubt I'm the first to need this information. Does anyone have an idea how to get this information?

Please note that it is the number of cores and casings of a VM, not an ESXi host.

    Thanks in advance,

  • VMware vSphere 4 licenses essential question and the number of processors

    Hi all

I have a question about the Essentials of VMware vSphere 4.1 license. We have a client interested in a VMware vSphere Essentials license. The machine runs on 2 x processor Xeon 5675 6 c. Now I read somewhere that there was a limitation of the number of processors that can be used with the edition of Essentials. If I remember correctly, the number of physical sockets is limited to 2, but I remember that there is another limit, but I could not find the document describing and wonder:

Is there a limitation on the maximum number of 4 cores on one physical processor that can or will be used by VMware vSphere 4.1 Essentials or there is a limitation on the number of 4 vCPU that can be assigned to a guest?

I would like to know because if this is a limitation on the number of vCPU that can be assigned to a customer that would not be a problem because we have no guests in need of vCPU, then 2 more, but if this is a limitation on the number of cores that would be used by VMware vSphere Essentials, it would be a waste of money to buy a 6-Core ;-)

    Hello.

2 taken with 3 guests, 6 hearts and SMP 4 lanes for virtual machines.

These limitations are available at: http://www.vmware.com/products/vsphere/buy/small_business_editions_comparison.html

  • I have a retail version of Windows 7 (home premium). I buy a new motherboard, processor and RAM. Will be my install of Windows 7 function properly?

As mentioned, I have a full commercial copy of Windows 7 Home Premium and I'm on the point to replace my motherboard, processor and RAM.  Windows 7 will work properly?  If this is not the case, what should I do to make this happen?  Thank you!

    Hello

With a license for the retail of Windows 7, you can change any material you want.

You will probably have to reinstall windows 7 as the 'old' motherboard drivers will be always installed on this drive hard (if you use the same drive where Windows 7 is already installed), so that he will probably not start correctly.

You can even move a license to retail to another computer if that never fails

The rule is: a license for a single installation.

Here's how to do a clean install of Windows 7.

    (A) if the automatic activation service informs you that she has failed and cannot help with activation, then STAY ON THE LINE and your call will be transferred to an operator of activation which will help you to activate your copy of Windows 7. If you get suspended under all pending, then phone back, but this time DO NOT respond when the ansafone asks what service you need (twice). This puts in the queue to speak to an engine and does not appear to expire so fast. The operator will give you a confirmation ID number if they accept that your copy of Windows 7 is legitimate.

All I need to know is that can I put RAM and CPU processor without voiding the warranty

    Hey,.

If you upgrade the CPU, you will cancel the warranty because this upgrade is not supported from Toshiba.
In addition, I put t understand why you buy a laptop, and then you think of some hardware upgrades. In your case, I'd rather bought a laptop with faster processor and more RAM.

See also this article from Toshiba:

Finally and above all a RAM upgrade is not a problem. So check your user manual how to do this.

  • Determine the number of traditional DAQ hardware using Labview.

    Hello

    Anyone can answer the question:

Regarding materials traditional DAQ, for example the DMM OR-4060, how

can I programmatically determine the number of device which can be seen in MAX?

With the help of Labview 8.5, I looked into the following function libraries:

    NOR-DMM

    VISA

    NOR-ModInst

None of the libraries above seem to provide access the number of traditional DAQ hardware

    property, which is automatically assigned.

    Background:

    I have a 18 PXI chassis containing 2 DMM, in housing 3 and 14.

The DMM may be a mixture of type OR-4060 or NOR-4070.

The system is controlled by a Teststand sequence employing IVI - DMM

    steps.

When you set the IVI logical name step, I am referring to IVI device defined Sessions

    Max - rutime determined.

Labview VISA functions using I can determine the model, i.e. 4060 or 4070.

Because the DMM just locate into the slots 3 or 14, then the devices NOR-4070

are accessible using the following descriptors of resources: PXI1Slot3 or

    PXISlot14.

    (The 4070 is compatible DAQmX.)

So for devices OR-4070, I can predefine 2 Sessions of IVI device, knowing

It will be sufficient for all occasions, when I run my Teststand sequence, which will be

determine what device session to use at run time.

But I'm stuck for the NOR-4060.

At the Session of the device, I have to give a descriptor of resource the following

format: DAQ::x (where x is the device number)

I could create device 18 sessions each reference to a different DAQ::x, but to select

the good pair during execution, I would need to programmatically determine the device

number, i.e. the value of x.

    Where my question.

The closest I came to a solution was an entry of the Knowledge Base that said that the

Assigned device number would be the same as the slot number, providing the

Number of the device had not previously configured manually.

Unfortunately, our device numbers have been changed manually and maybe in the future.

    All popular solutions.

    Gary.

    Hi Gary,.

Good afternoon and I hope that your well today.

Thanks for your post and I want to help you solve your problems.

I don't think there is just a function that you can use to identify and collect information on all cards with your. For traditional DAQ devices in particular I suggest using the Information.vi of DAQ devices get.

If you look at this link,

SAL posted an example VI entitled, find dev trad.vi.

You can get information such as serial number, Dev name and the Base address.

The assistance of the respective drivers to collect information you could generate an array of strings with the information that you need all the slots.

Please let me know if this is useful at all,

  • Question about processor and Windows. need to answer accrdingly to discription below. ?

I use windows xp. on cpu 2.4, 1 gb ram and 256 of the hard drive. and I am aware of two pins in my processor is broken by the heat of combustion. the system still works fine. but the only problem that I face is that it takes 3 x the normal time to copy the data from the drive usb or vice versa...  This is: it is because of the processor broken pins to copy slow. and is there a way to solve via software system say avoid those specifice pins or some how? ?   Hopefully the issue is understandable. answer please...

Pins broken on a processor and things still work, and your concern is slow copy?

What is "thermal burning?  You can expand on how these pins really broken?

There is no software (that I know) to "move" broken material as you describe.  You would be better to spend a little money to find a replacement processor or a replacement processor and motherboard that will accept your current memory, etc. MY HUMBLE OPINION.

Is * only * the cause of your slow copy - questionable.  Save more explanation of what happened to the pins of the processor - I suspect there is other damage suffered by the system, you don't even know of which could cause slow best USB.  Something with the motherboard, possibly.  Specifically the same USB ports.

I mean - you could back up everything, perform a clean installation of the operating system and see if it works better after loading the latest drivers form the manufacturers of hardware components in your machine costs and clean...  Otherwise - shot in the dark so that blindfolded and ignoring obvious cries of "stop, don't shoot."  * smile *.

Side also - comment - if there is something wrong * everything * and you declare it here, the system * not * "are still working fine.  * smile *.

  • HP laptop - 15-r150sa (ENERG: I want to upgrade the processor and the RAM of my laptop HP)

I have a requirement for a high quality laptop computer.  I want to at least 16 GB of RAM and Intel i7 processor. Can I improve/replace the newly purchased on my laptop i5 to i7 processor and 6 GB to 16 GB RAM?

    Emergency response please.

The processor is part of the motherboard. To get a faster processor, it requires the replacement of the whole motherboard.

Processor Intel Core i7-5500U and 2 GB cards separate graphics 795814-501

Above is the part number. This part is new and rare and can only be in HP. At this moment, they are not available. I did a complete search on the internet and it does not appear in one of the parts houses so likely you will have to wait a few months for the part joining the supply chain. When it doesn't the price will shock you. As at least $300US, maybe more.

The RAM is available anywhere. Like this:

    http://www.eBay.co.UK/ITM/2x-8gb-16GB-DDR3L-1600-MHz-RAM-memory-HP-mobile-Workstat-Zbook-17-PC3L-12800S-/191493216820?PT=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c95e29a34

Upgrade memory requires the removal of the motherboard so it would be foolish to do until you are ready to do all the work.

May I ask why if you need a super-powerful laptop just purchased a kind of average lower of the spectrum? It's always much more expensive try to upgrade a cheap laptop computer than to just buy a high-end establishment at first. It would probably be you will have to return or to sell your laptop and buy a new one with the features you need.

  • Latitude E7450 processor and controller, E - 2, unstable configuration port of the U2715H - two monitors-

I have two monitors U2715H connected via a CDM-> DP cable each to a docking station E-Port Plus (in fact an Advanced Port Replicator EURO2) in which sits a laptop Latitude E7450 processor and controller. All items are brand new. E7450 processor and controller is equipped with 16 GB of RAM and two graphics cards: Intel HD 5500 Graphics and NVIDIA GeForce 840 M; selection is automatic, which usually means that the 5500 is running. It runs Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 (64-bit). The docking station has apparently DP 1.2 a capacity (for chaining) but DP 1.2 is disabled in both monitors.

I have correctly configured the system to have Windows desktop space both monitors at 2560 x 1440 resolution, even with screen internal latitude as a third request for an extension to its full resolution (1920 x 1080). The main screen can be set to one of the two (or three) and I can successfully move the sequence of monitors around (left, middle, right).

There is therefore no doubt about the ability of the system to support the planned configuration. However, when I dock the Latitude (most with the lid closed) and start, most of the time he is unable to restore the configuration of the two external monitors. Some of the symptoms are: one or two monitors go black, indicating the cable connected but no signal from the docking station. If there is a picture on one of the monitors at startup, it may or may not contain the login screen. (I can still log in because I know which keystrokes to send.) If the login screen is visible, it is usually in low resolution. If I have several active screens, but one is black, I can move the mouse pointer (or an entire window) on the screen black (in the middle or on the side), but it is not visible here.

Both monitors come right out of the box and the only change I made is to move from the DP to the mDP as input channel. I reinstalled the cables and exchanged the cables between the two DPs on the docking station. I turned the market monitors. I ran the self-test the requirements on both monitors. The connection of the laptop on the docking station is a little wobbly, but I use the spacer provided for the E7450 processor and controller and making sure the connection is correct and stable. I've updated all the drivers and BIOS of processors E7450 and controller. I recently saw a reference to a BIOS for the docking station; I didn't know it existed, but I'm not.

The installation instructions provided with the monitors were a note on consulting the CD provided for the use of the screen to maximum resolution. E7450 processor and controller is not an optical drive, but I read all of the documentation for the monitor to Support technical without finding what whatsoever to shed light on the situation (in addition to ensure that the graphics card and drivers are up to the task).

Once I connected, I can manage to make it all in order by randomly (?) lower the resolution of the screen, change the position of the main screen (left-center-right), deselection reselection CDM as entry way and forcing other changes. Once the two or all three screens in operation, I can put them all to maximum resolution and beginning of work. However, it is rather annoying and I would like to have a stable configuration.

The configuration seems to survive power cycling of the laptop / station but not if I also disconnect the laptop. I should mention that when I detach the E7450 processor and controller, I can use it in other configurations, with or without other external monitors through other ports, before turning it off and later re - anchor as described. However, for the first month I had two old non-moniteurs Dell of any resolution (on DVI and VGA ports) connected to the docking station and the configuration is stable, and for years I used for my older Latitude with a docking station that is older, remembering his device between different hardware configurations.

Please, someone - and Dell support staff in particular?

A brief update of the Denmark...

We have experienced the issue for several months since the purchase of laptops E7450 processor and controller and docks of Port E II.

  • Cannot change the number of processors present on the drive

    Hello

I am a new user but have searched the forums and FAQS and can't find the answer.

I have VMWare Workstation Player version 12 for Linux.  Host is 23 Fedora on a processor quad-core i5 with 8 GB of RAM.  Guest operating system is Windows 7.  It's for personal use, so I don't have a license key.

The question I have, is that several parameters is not editable, especially the number of processors. The selection is grayed out and set to 1.  In addition, the hard drive and display settings (graphics card) cannot be changed either.

I tried both with the virtual machine off and with it works.  Doesn't make a difference, the settings are grayed out.

I searched everywhere for an explanation, but have not found a clue.  Help, please!

    Thank you

The settings are grayed out when:
    -the virtual machine is running
    -the virtual machine is suspended
-l' virtual computer runs in background

If poweroff the virtual machine with a full stop of the guest.
If it still does not - check if you are the owner of the vmx file
