  You open the image directly from iPhoto? Right-click and choose Edit in > Photoshop elements Editor

  You need Adobe raw camera 8.7 version. Unfortunately your software is earlier than the camera. ACR 8.7 is only compatible with PSE13. But it is possible to download and install the free DNG Converter to convert your raw files to the universal Raw format files and Adobe will be open in all versions of PSE (keep your originals as backups and for use in the software of the camera factory)

  I have a user having difficulty opening files of the orf. When the problem was first brought to my attention, that we could not open the nef files either. I installed the Adobe Camera Raw plugin and then the nef files can be opened but not the orf files.
  Anyone know why this would be and what can be done to solve the problem?

  Try to change it to sRGB and check again.
