  If you have installed through software that has been linked to above, you should have an icon on your desktop or in your programs that will allow you to control your actions of the printer. So in this software under "Scanning" or "Scanner Actions" you can use and control your scanner to your computer. The "Scan" function you're talking about is probably a virus scan of one of the programs on your computer, not a real scanning application.

  The printer just stopped working yesterday.  I am running Yosemite 10.10.2. Through internet research, I've upgraded to the latest drivers and software HP.  I have reset print.  Can I get printing to work with an ethernet cable.  Wireless does not work.

  I spent hours trying to solve this problem.  Please help, the printer and copier work but not the scanner.

  Thank you - all the wireless functions: printing and scanning to work again.  I followed the guide, but it took a number of attempts.  I think the main thing that I was missing before I used this guide was remove the preference.

  I've used the scanner before without any problem. I have Windows Vista. I tried to scan yesterday and got the message: no scan options and refer to the documentation for the device. I ran the diagnostic analysis, HP Scanner TWAIN of the scanner did not and then the HP scanning application no longer works and I got the message to remove my printer software and reinstall. I did and received this message: the old version of HPSSupply cannot be deleted contact technical support. Fatal error and MSI. SUBCOMMITTEE. I was initially using the wireless printer.   Just upgraded to W7 Home Pro.  Now, I can't scan from the printer (officejet 8500 has pro) PC evrything else works fine.  Get error "username or password is incorrect.   Basically, I mean run CC Cleaner after the uninstall.  If it was a computer not HP, I have some other things to try, but it is not if I don't.  Rather than use CC Cleaner, you can try using Advanced System Care of IOBit.  I had better luck with her clear up the problems I have with CC Cleaner, but tha't you. I'll link below just in case you want to test.  Have you tried right-clicking on the downloaded Setup file and selecting run as administrator?

  If this does not work, remember to uninstall and reinstall the software COMPLETE features, follow these steps:
  
  1 uninstall the software from your computer
  2. download and save the software COMPLETE features (do not install online)

  If we understand it, you cannot scan with the kodak camera.

  2. have you made changes on the computer recently?
  3. do you get an error message when you try to scan?

  I have restarted the printer (and quit and restarted scan HP) and get the same results.

  I have never been able to scan from the printer/scanner by using the "scan to computer" button - it always gives a message saying Start scan of the computer.

  So for the moment I can't understand any kind of scanner. It's not rocket science! What should I try now?

  Well first head in "System Preferences" > "printers & scanners" do a right-click on one of the printers and choose "reset printing system" in order to eliminate anything that might contradict the newer version than we are going to download.
  Then download this driver package (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907?viewlocale=en_US)
  Once it's finished downloading.
  1. reboot your computer
  2. start the installation.
  3. restart the computer.
  After that he will turn on try and add the printer again. (Note: make sure that the driver you are adding is not AirPrint)

  My officejet is around the age of 6 months. I have not used the scanner since I bought it, but when I tried it today, it would not scan.

  The dialogue of the printer said I check the USB connection (it prints from the computer OK) and make sure that the software is installed and configured.

  When I bought the computer it included an installation disc that's not open on my 8.1 WIN yould so I opened the disc on another computer and copied the installation on my own computer. It seemed to work OK for normal printing.

  Can someone advise me on an exercese troubleshooting I can run to find the problem. In addition, I do not understand

  the statement "configured". Maybe I missed that and if so how to manage it?

  I understand that your Officejet will not scan. I understand you need to have improved your HP Pavilion computer to Windows 8.1 also.

  You must uninstall the software/driver that you used from the installation disc. Always use the latest drivers from HP.

  NOTE: You must clean all the HP printer drivers and software of the system.

  How do I uninstall the HP printer drivers.

  You can also then run Ccleaner to clean better left above the elements of registry with the registry cleaner.

  CCleaner Slim edition (scroll down) is free to use. It cleans temporary files, but does not delete the documents, photos or other files normal.

  Then, download and install the software/driver for Windows 8.1 64bits.

  Software Installtion drivers-product -click and choose Download the full software and driver .

  Page Windows 8.1 drivers here.

  Under the Diagnostics utility tools is the HP print and Scan Doctor. You can install as to diagnose problems with the scanner, if it still does not work.
