What is the purpose of installing Oracle client software?

You will need to install the Oracle DB client if you want to configure with Oracle database as repository.

  • TOAD: you have not installed the oracle customers

    Hi all

    I have installed on my machine Windows XP TOAD 9 & oracle in XEclient.

    I also added the path to the bin of Oracle client to the PATH environment variable.
    I also added the TNS_ADMIN variable with the value of the tnsnames.ora location.

    The thing is same installation works fine on the laptop desktop but does not work on my desktop.

    Some may help here.

    First of all you should check the "Installed Clients" section of the TOAD.

    Go to the--> new connection Session. You will see the right Clients installed on the lower section. What do you see in the connection string text box? Do you think all customers?

  • Installation maintenance version Oracle 11.1.2.1 to 11.1.2.3 customers

    Hello

    When we do the patching of 11.1.2.1 for 11.1.2.3 version. Do we need to install Oracle customers 32 bit and 64 bit software again. When we install EMP 11.1.2.1 we already installed Oracle customers. So, if we improve to 11.1.2.3 version we need reinstall the customers oracle 32-bit and 64-bit? Please notify.

    It will be your choice that you want to use.

    After you apply the update, update the TNS_ADMIN environment variable to point to the location of the location of the existing Oracle database customer tnsnames.ora file.

  • Database Oracle 12 c and Kerberos

    Hi guys, I have the Kerberos authentication on lunix works well but I can not configure the database to authenticate users with Kerberos 5.

    I followed the official instructions on setting up Kerberos authentication. However, I am struck with as error.

    The work of okinit and oklist. But when I try to connect with 'sqlplus /@orcl' it gives me this error:

    ERROR:

    ORA-12638: credential retrieval failed

    Can someone help me?

    Oracle support strategy is unchanged. It is a typical "typo" from people unfamiliar with this statement of support for commercialization. If you are an Oracle customer you have access to MyOracleSupport & can read by yourself (249212.1). Without political change = business as usual. Deployment of Oracle on VMware, Oracle customers deploy like you for years with confidence. If you want more insight, check the post from VMware on the Oracle support.

  • Installing Oracle on Unix and Linux

    Hi guys

    I think that this is my first post here.

    I do research on virtualization in distributed systems. What I do is to have:

    Win 7 > home
    6 OS on VirtualBox and VMWare which will be UNIX, Ubuntu Linux, OpenSUSE Linux and WinXP
    An Oracle database on the host of Win7 and another database Oracle on one of the Linux operating system.
    Win7 host will have a full Oracle installation while the virtual OS will have Oracle customers.

    I can't find where to download that can be used for Unix and Linux installation of Oracle files.
    I found this http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/downloads/index.html
    but after downloading the files from Unix and Linux client, I can't use them to install.
    And why is Oracle give these for free? Are these assessment development or student licensed?

    Frankly - it's all just stupid to convert T - SQL in PL/SQL.

    There are significant differences between these two. PL is a real procedural and declarative language. It has features of OBJECT-oriented programming. It is absolutely nothing like T - SQL.

    Oracle is also different from SQL-Server. There are conceptual major and fundamental differences. After all, why do you buy Oracle customers? Because it's just like SQL-Server? Or because it is not and is very different from SQL-Server?

    Oracle is a very poor imitation of SQL-Server. It has no sense to treat it as SQL-Server.

    And in this vein, it is meaningless to implement the fundamental concepts of the T - SQL and SQL-Server by converting in PL/SQL. The result will probably happen again worse than what he has done in SQL Server. He will not be able to scale. It will be difficult to maintain. It will not use the features of Oracle that puts a technically superior product of RDBMS of SQL Server to Oracle.

    It only converts SQL Oracle server. A ports. And this is refactoring and redesign to better utilize the features of Oracle. Another thing, how can you only achieve the perceived benefits and the benefits of the passage of the SQL for Oracle Server?

    Communities of MOS (MyOracleSupport) is mainly controlled by the members of the Support of Oracle (and other Oracle employees) and customers.  Access by the employees is reserved for customers with access to Support (MOS).  Thus, when you publish in MOSC responses usually come to an employee of Oracle or a paying customer of Oracle.

    The OTN Forum is open to the public.  The feedback you get here, from someone like me (an Oracle Product Manager) or any employee of Oracle, Oracle customers, previous clients Oracle, students, teachers, consultants, people who like to just help with technical questions, people wanting to be malicious and lawyers.  We are trying to stop the last two as quickly as possible.

    Just for the record, I watch the two Forums, but I focus more on this external one.  If my input is necessary to MOSC, one of the support team will be usually contact me and ask me to comment if I missed something.

    My hope is that by focusing my attention on this external forum, I can better gasoline which uses the product, which is new to the product, which versions are used, what features are more desirable, and what problems are most often.  It also gives me the opportunity to propose corrections to erroneous information and rumors.

    Hi 876213,

    Since 'the accident occurred outside the Virtual Machine Java to native code' (e.g. oran11.dll), you should try one of the following conditions:

    1. avoid the Oracle DB client code.

    2. cleaning of the Oracle DB client so that only one Windows PATH ENV variable appears (instead of 3!).  It resembles a version mismatch.

    So I recommend one of these:

    1. use Connection Type: base without database > advanced > use Oracle Client and the driver use OIC/thickness options

    2. at least install client Oracle 11.2.0.3 moment (the minimum for SQL Dev 4.0.x) and put it on the PATH, first removing all other Oracle customers

    If you do not want to change the path globally in Windows system settings, create a .bat file which then adjusts lance SQL Developer.

    I installed the latest Oracle ODP .NET version for 32-bit Windows 7. I copied on my TNSNAMES file. ORA. This is a new installation and I checked the registry to verify that there is a single ORACLE_HOME here.

    When I try to connect to my server (version 8.1.7), I the error described above.

    I get the same error in my .NET code, regardless of the library, I use (ODP .NET) or (System.Data.OracleClient).

    The .NET version of the ODP is 4.121.1.0

    How can I get around this?

    ODP.NET 10.2 downloads are on the same page of the ODAC as 12.1 downloads. Just scroll down until you find the version you want.

    You don't need to uninstall 12.1, but if you are a beginner, then I recommend that you uninstall 12.1. Parts unmanaged Oracle customers can face sometimes evil appears in the path of Windows before version is planned.

  • Why Hibernate... Why no ADF BCs


    Hello expert ADF, I was noticed that many large companies use hibernate for business instead of ADF business components components.  And I got the answer for reason is the security issue.   If this is the case it is a great loss that we have such a wealth that is provided by the ADF?

    Thus, we never use ADF business components in large-scale projects?

    Appreciate someone can give me a reason why hibernate is selected instead of use the ADF BCs.

    I'm a big fan of ADF BCs because in the case of hibernation... .almost everything we need to create manually from scratch.

    Note that the Hibernate mode is where we TopLink (EclipseLink). For people advocating the hibernation, its good to ask why the hibernation became not the Java EE reference implementation EJB but TopLink. Note that ADF BC is a persistence layer Java EE by Oracle used by Oracle Fusion Applications and Oracle customers. You are free to choose which layer of business service you use. Note that ADF BC has deep integration with security ADF, which gives you declarative permission for you to Hibernate, I guess that code.

  • CLOB DataType: conversion with loss when migrating to WE8ISO8859P1 to AL32UTF8


    We have an application data in a database of output 9.2.0.8 (characterset WE8ISO8859P1).

    Now, the data must be migrated in a 11.2.0.3 output database (characterset AL32UTF8).

    When you run the CSSCAN utility on the target (9.2.0.8) database I get the following result:

    From my understanding CLOB objects can store up to (4 gigabytes-1) * (the value of the LOB CHUNK storage parameter)

    data of type character. Or is the problem that can not get the characters of certain lines converted AL32UTF8?

    Currently, I do not understand why "lossy conversion" will happen...

    Any help will be appreciated!

    "Lossy conversion" means that some codes of characters (bytes) the CLOB listed are not recognized as valid in WE8ISO8859P1. These codes are usually in the range 0 x 80-0x9f. You must take a look at these codes and try to guess what is their true meaning.  In most cases that meet Oracle customers, these illegal WE8ISO8859P1 are actually codes of WE8MSWIN1252 (WE8MSWIN1252 is a binary superset of WE8ISO8859P1). The solution is then to set the source game the good character of characters in database value and then export.

  • Developer SQL 4.0 ai2 - cannot use OpenLDAP with LDAP connect option

    I have OpenLDAP installation to work with my Oracle customers to use the TNS connection, instead of having scattered files tnsnames.ora strings about hundreds of servers.


    It works very well with 10g / 11g, customers complete and instantaneous, no problem.


    Now, I am trying configure SQL Developer 4.0 ai2 working with her, as well.


    When I try to do, I am able to select the 'LDAP' option in 'Connection Type', and the drop-down list "LDAP server" is correctly filled with my LDAP server of ldap.ora.


    However, when I select it, I get the following error:

    Status: Failed-[LDAP: error 32 - No Such Object code]


    Now, I did some research and I followed the slapd.log file, which shows me the following:

    That is a lot more detail, but reflects the corresponding error code (32 - No Such Object).

    After doing some tests with ldapsearch, I was able to reproduce this only developer SQL is done and get the same exact error.

    The ldapsearch command is:

    ldapsearch einstein Pei 389 - c - x d h "" b "" "(objectClass=orclContext)" "

    Research in the slapd.log file, I find a mistake similar to what is produced from SQL Developer.

    In addition, the query SQL Developer wants can be done successfully with the following ldapsearch:

    ldapsearch h einstein Pei 389 - c - x d ' "b"dc = proquest, dc = com""(objectClass=orclContext) ""

    Thus, it seems that the problem is the fact that the SQL Developer does not provide a research base.

    I'm not expert LDAP, and I really don't know where to turn next.

    Is there a SQL Developer option that allows me to put this basic research?  Is there a setting I'm missing on the LDAP server configuration?

    Well, that didn't take long.  I managed to find a solution to the problem.

    It boils down to the fact that the SQL Developer does not provide a research base, and my LDAP server had a defined default search base.

    When I edited slapd.conf (OpenLDAP configuration file) and add a parameter "defaultsearchbase" and bounced the LDAP, everything started working.

    I now have a working with OpenLDAP and Developer SQL configuration.

    I installed Hypeiron 11.1.2.3 Essbase, planning, HFM analysis, reports and web on win 2008 Server personal and relational db is SQL Server 2008.

    After configuration when I diagnose I got the below errors

    Do not worry about the Oracle customers as your using SQL Server.

    Do not make sure that the following requirements are met but for SQL Server - Installation and Configuration Guide Release 11.1.2.3
