  I recently had trouble with my permissions of file being messed up because of a bad Windows Update and after to find most of my problems and access to almost everything I find I can't play audio files such as mp3 or wav in any player (Winamp, iTunes, etc.) or have game audio while watching a video file (I tried VLC).

  The strange thing is that audio plays very well while doing something in my web browser, Google Chrome, and I can even open the mp3s in Chrome and have them play.   1. in the Menu of charms, click settings-> change PC settings

  2. in the settings app, select devices on the left hand. It will give the list available on the right devices.

  3. here my device "MediaPi" has been shown in offline mode. Select it, and then I clicked on the (-) at the top to remove it.

  4. in Windows Explorer, select the computer (on the left side).

  5. from the Ribbon bar click 'Multimedia access'-> 'connect to the media server. It will take a while and should list your multimedia 'MediaPi' server in my case. Select it and click Next.

  6. Windows will display to install the necessary files. Once it's done, you're done! Now, you will again see the media server.

  I have a Flex SWF embedded in an HTML page. After I clear my cache, the swf file loads but does not play. It works very well after that, until I got clear my cache again.   Finally solved!

  What is happening because of my server (IIS) using dynamic caching. Other people have had the problem with Apache as well.

  Strangely, it only breaks Flex SWF, not Flash SWF.

  In any case, in short, if this happens to anyone, remove SWF in the list of extensions that your dynamic server should cache.
