  You're probably talking about Recovery DVD. No, file structure will be the same and you can't use the USB to retrieve the machine. You may be able to make a second series of DVDs for backup by sector-by-sector copy.

  The question of compatibility you're talking about is one where many flash drives are seen as a local instead of removable storage disk - and HP Recovery Manager wouldn't use it to create a recovery media.   This problem mainly occurs when windows 7 does not assign a drive letter for your USB drive. It occurs especially with the new flash drives connected to the computer for the first time. Assigning a new drive as such letter should solve the problem.
