• Very slow start and run for Dell Inspiron 6400 XP times

  "I have a problem with an Inspiron 6400 brought to ' horribly slow start and run time.  XP Pro 32 bit SP3 patched up to date.  Cleaned up a lot of "undesirable", as the partially uninstalled programs, cleaned the files temporary etc. with CCleaner, cleaned and optimized the registry afer all the cleaning has been done, defragmented, tried to start without any of the boot files, disabled all unnecessary services and uninstalled virus checking software, (but ran several anti-virus controls) etc. - no help.   Safe Start Mode is faster, but... not at all normal - 1 1/2 minutes of screen to logon instead of close to 3 minutes.  A lot of memory (2 GB), which rises to 600 to 700 MB runnng all the stuff I've tried.  Hard drive is 1/3 used out of 120 GB with a 2 GB swap file.

  One thing I'm still scratching my head over - beyond the horribly slow boot - is very slow access to files even though everything seems to work normally, but as molasses in January.  Looking at the performance of the Task Manager tab when I run a copy of a file (whether via a cmd window or with Windows Explorer), I see a near max processor would be and the other with a small business.  Even if the customer says he had been getting worse for some time, after checking and cleaning of all things 'normal', my next thought was perhaps a bad disk or disk controller driver, but chkdsk ran very well (although it took hours) even if I ' d I have already updated all drivers (and even the DVD firmware and BIOS) on the Dell web site.  Oh, and I ran Dell Diagnostics (from bootable CD) updates all with no errors found.  And access to the slow file even with symptoms had max-processor occur with a copy of the file on a USB key that seems to eliminiate the hard disk, the disk controller and the pilot.

  The other interesting part of the display for a file copy task manager is that the processes tab simply shows System Idle 97 to 99%, with a percentage of casual for other processes as Explorer while I see 1 max out procesor on the performance tab.  That the same copy on your desktop shows 3-4% of the CPU usage and who is with active antivirus software.  I'm almost ready to fall toward a Windows reinstall, but would like to find the real reason behind this problem of puzzle...

  It of almost as if he's using PIO instead of DMA disk access, but... don't know how/where to test this.

  For those who have enquring spirits (and anyone else who stumbles across this thread), the primary IDE controller has been set to PIO and locked it.  Who would have thought that Windows slowly reduced the transfer speed, whenever he saw 6 errors on an IDE device until it has been reduced to PIO and then he locked it?  But the procedures described in the link of winhlp.com showed how to solve the problem.

  There are actually several problems that led to the final symptoms.  According to KB817472, the Atapi.sys has been improved in XP SP2 only degrade the speed of transfer on 6 consecutive errors instead of 6 cumulative errors.  And even though everything I have (Microsoft update) was seen and showed that this area was to SP3, I found that the driver for the controller layer IDE was the SP2 version.  Someone ran sfc previously perhaps?

  Oh, and I know now that the Task Manager process tab does not time processor kernal, but the performance tab.  Good to know...

  Thanks again to all who have responded.  Starting at the time of connection-question now is 40 seconds.   You'll love Untra DMA mode 5.   There is still a lingering question in my mind, since I've had the same symptoms of slow copy of a file on a flash drive.  Perhaps a link in some way to the way that Windows treats a flashdrive as a "drive"...

  Then, we decided to push the version 11 of the form AD process, which has now more than 4 fields in the prod.
  
  For new users, we can see that the new fields are filled and the data flow down to AD.
  
  But, how things work out for the users existing and existing AD account?
  
  How can we make the new fields appear in the form of a user process existing with the old AD account that did not contain the new 4 fields.

• Reapply rules for existing users

  Hello to all IDMers;
  
  We have a seasonal group called for the Member access is based on the rule that there are two fields an is true and also based on the employee type that is "seasonal."
  There are other users who are of type EMP different BUT with the other field set to true.
  Now what we have decided is to all who on the ground are true in this group, regardless of their type of employee.
  
  So go ahead for new users we can easily implement this because I'll delete the Emp Type = seasonal status of the creator of the rule.
  But can you please tell me if there is an easy way to juice using design or admin console to apply this condition to all existing users.

  This is the perfect example of HOW not in PL/SQL code.

  Cursor fetch in PL/SQL loops are wrong 99% of the time. When you want to process the data in the database? Use SQL statements. Use SQL statements. And use SQL statements.

  No PL/SQL.

  Use INSERT... SELECT, MERGE, UPDATE (SELECT) and other SQL constructions.

  When you want to change it manually (where you manage the treatment), run this SQL via DBMS_PARALLEL_EXECUTE.

  Hi I have a windows vista family 32-bit premium on my toshiba satellite, vista does not load programs fast enough how he did at the beginning, for example ill open wordpad 2003 appointed, but it takes a long time to show an open document or just simply to print also it stops responding if I try to print. This isn't the printer its vista. I can't open some programs or they just stop responding, my net got more slowly, I can not install new updates, or "old" unstall, I can still update windows defender or my norton anivirus it will load the page but when I try to update it will stop respnding or takes just for a long time as 9 hours or more and still not completed the update. I can't even do a system restore or even do a restore point. I tried freezing the recent updates, I did, but it is not complete, and I always just stop responding or restart. I tried to repair the system it does not help, I'm going to safe mode the screen goes all white. I think it happened when I installed the latest updates for vista or you try to download a new program called dogwaffle. I can't even scan my computer for viruses. I have regcure and I used it, have 0 errors so I don't really know that the problem please help me I have tons of homework, projects and clients that I need to fill it please help and I really don't want to wipe the computer clean everything and start allover cause that I did not save. and I can't even make backups that it takes hours or a day of hole just put on the drive I don't know why it worked great until I upgraded to Vista or downloaded this new dogwaffle program — said passing recently I not unhooked and clear all dogwaffle so im confused.

  I suggest you to view update history to see which update might be causing the problem.

  (a) open Windows Update by clicking Start , all programs, and then Windows Update.

  (b) in the left pane, click view update history.

  (c) to display more information about an update, double-click it.

  Once you know Update KB number , provide the same if we can solve the problem more far.

  Method 1:

  I suggest you to start the computer in a clean boot state and check if any third-party application may be the cause of the problem.

  This could happen if one of the substantive programmes is in conflict with the proper functioning of your computer. To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows 7 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

• Slow performance on Linux for Visual effects

  Visual effects such as Transitions are very poor on linux "winded" compared to windows. I noticed this on different PC, checked for Java7 and Java8.

  If the user interface contains many objects and then the transition sometimes is not even.

  I don't think that it is the graphics since videos are quite ok.

  I use the driver ATI without Xorg.conf file and installed the xcompmgr

  I use Microsoft Windows XP SP3 and Microsoft Security Essentials.

  I did 2 locked users:

  1 locked with custom Restrictions user running Internet Explorer and other Internet browsers, write and draw and nothing much and is welcomed by right clicking on the program icon only run under other Creditentials.

  2 power User, made from MMC with Chater way to have more power that any user who can not only surf the Internet, but also play games online, and this user is also locked.

  My question is: how to make 1. User has locked protected with Microsoft Security Essentials, cause seems MSE is not protect this account, and I can't be sure because of the locked account cannot see even if it is protected, I put MSE on startup but that does not put MSE icon on the taskbar. If it is not protected is not a good cause for the idea that the user navigates Net.

  Another thing I want to do:

  For both locked users able to save files to the desktop and I have it unchecked in Windows SteadyState, but when I connect them and when I log into files are not saved on their desktop computers. So what is the point of selection/deslecting in sign of Restriction if the files went once they logout?

  I wanted to do administrator can retrieve files from their office soon logs in.

  Is - it possible and keep them locked?

  One last thing - since English isn't the only language to be used on 1 locked user account

  How can I put language so that the user can switch between EN and another language

• Windows XP Pro SP3 slow navigation and performance of the Internet network

  I am running a Windows SBS 2008 domain with 70 clients - many of which are Windows 7 Pro (and not affected by performance problems) and other clients are Windows XP Pro.  Recently, apply 2 updates to all Windows XP clients to a problem of double authentication with RDP Server 2008 platform - two updates are http://support.microsoft.com/kb/969084 (install the RDC 7.0 client upgrade) and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/951608 (adds the registry entry in Windows XP to enable CredSSP).  Now, the patches of handsets allow RDP clients to Server 2008 platform and enter the credentials of the user only once.

  However, given that these updates have been applied, about 7 of 20 Windows XP clients are extremely slow performance when searching for network resources (sharing drives, Outlook / MS Exchange and Internet browsing synchronization).  Not sure if the 2 patches are coincedental or related.  I tried rewriting changes from two patches, drivers NETWORK card and even tried to replace the NETWORK adapter with new ones.  No change in performance.

  However, can I uninstall / reboot / reinstall the Client of Microsoft Networks and clients perform as expected.  Over time (sometimes), the problem reappears.  I have been through the event logs and don't see any errors that indicate a failure to communicate on the network.  All clients receive assignments IP from the DHCP server and updates are managed via WSUS.

  Ideas or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
