There are solutions out there, depends on how much you trust the software that you download. Here is an example for Windows 8, could work for vista too - make sure you have a full backup and AV before you start :)

If your computer has problems play a sound, try using the Audio playback problems resolution to solve the problem. For measures and additional information, see o ink below.

    Method 1.
If other DVD play, the problem could be a scratched or damaged disk, or a problem of Codec for a particular disc.
You might miss a decoder codecs or DVD. A DVD decoder is another name for a MPEG-2 decoder. The content on DVD-Video discs is encoded in MPEG-2 format, as is the content of the files DVR - MS (Microsoft recorded TV Shows) and some AVI files. To read these articles in the drive, you need a compatible DVD decoder installed on your computer.

After play ripped music fine for years, Windows Media Player, 11.0.6002.18311, now only play a few seconds and then sound stops. I had just ripped the cd of Linkin Park metal when it started :) (WMP plays that ripped cd very well on my lap top.)  Looks like it's playing, but no sound. Any suggestions to fix this?

    Hi ReginaReitzel,

    ·         Did you do changes on the computer before the show?

    Follow these methods.

Method 1: Follow the steps in the article.

Solve problems in Windows Media Player

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/troubleshoot-problems-in-Windows-Media-Player

Method 2: Manually, you can rebuild the database of Windows Media Player and see if that fixes the problem. Follow these steps:

    (a) output Windows Media Player.

    (b) click Start, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Media Player, and then click OK.

(c), select all the files in the folder and then click on Delete on the file menu.

Note: You don't have to remove the folders that are in this folder.

    (d) restart Windows Media Player.

Note: Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.

If this does not resolve the problem, disable the Windows Media Player database cache files. To do this, follow these steps:

    (a) output Windows Media Player.

    (b) click Start, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoftand then click OK.

    (c) select the folder Media Player and then click on Delete on the file menu.

    (d) restart Windows Media Player.

Note: Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.

  • Windows 7 does not play Audio or Audio files into video files

I recently had trouble with my permissions of file being messed up because of a bad Windows Update and after to find most of my problems and access to almost everything I find I can't play audio files such as mp3 or wav in any player (Winamp, iTunes, etc.) or have game audio while watching a video file (I tried VLC).

The strange thing is that audio plays very well while doing something in my web browser, Google Chrome, and I can even open the mp3s in Chrome and have them play. When I try to open an audio file in Windows Media Player, I get an error C00D11B1, else hangs the program or does not play at all, the timer remains at 0. I tried to recharge my programs, codecs and drivers, but to no avail. System Restore is not an option I lost somehow those I had over the screw up that changed my permissions.

Any help or ideas would be very appreciated.
