Product ID of Windows 8 Media Center Pack

I lost my code of Media Center product package windows 8. How can I re - get the number of Microsoft yet? I called their customer service but after being transferred more than Virgin hot * on a Saturday evening frat party and explain my problem, each time, I still don't know the answer. What I really need to buy it again to functions add Windows 8?

You will need to know the product key at the very least.  What happened to Windows Media Center?  It is always installed?  If so there may be some recovery options available while it is still on your machine via tools like Belarcc Advusor etc.

See what details, if applicable, you can dig up here.

What a pleasure - this really makes the license issues a joy.
If I understand you right, "fried" your old computer was XP Home Edition - and the replacement motherboard came from a machine with MCE?
If so, then Yes, you must use the MCE license, rather than the home one. To be entirely legal, it must also have the sticker COST MCE glued to the box.
MCE is XP Pro - which is a reason that you can not change just the product key-based. The other is that the update tool simply is not designed to work with MCE.
    What can you do?
Unfortunately, there is no way around it, whatever you do will involve a clean install (to backup your data first led outdoors!) If you want to stick with MCE.

    (1) you can go to the manufacturer of the MCE machine and ask if they can provide the recovery disc for this machine - if you're lucky, they may still have some in stock. If they are not, try restoredisks.com
    (2) you can take your life in your hands and download a torrent of a set of installation MCE - it's going to be at least two CD there are a couple of "real" out there, who are free of malicious software, but most is contaminated in some way, so be very careful and do due diligence on any download you.
    (3) you can try to find a legitimate MCE pack on sale somewhere - I don't know what it should cost, or that also the prices on them are moving from MS stopped making years and they are like gold dust. (XP Pro prices are rising, but I suspect that MCE prices may be down).
    (4) you can purchase a legal license for XP Edition family - again, be very careful where you buy-it came to a point where there are more counterfeits than legal market. This would allow you to use the update tool to keep your current installation.

Note that there is no such thing as a 'detail' MCE - MCE all licenses are OEM and as such, cannot upgrade a XP Home license, where my earlier warning about backing up your data.

    Hello Rafi K,.

    Welcome to the Microsoft community.

I imagine the inconvenience that you are experiencing and will certainly help you in the right direction to solve the problem.

According to the deciphering of the question, you can not upgrade your computer Windows 8 to 8.1 of Windows. So, I suggest to try the steps by Vivian Samartha responded on April 12, 2014 in the following thread and see if it works for you.

    http://answers.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/Forum/windows8_1-windows_install/kb2919355-Windows-81-update-fails-800f0092-and/4d4d23a3-695a-4bd4-B340-d2ce9c75919d

If the problem persists after trying the above steps, I'll ask to follow the steps given by David Williams Dixon in the Blog below.

Something happened and the 8.1 Windows installation may not be completed. (And now you are bored)

Will there be side effects to install windows xp service pack 3 update on my windows xp media center edition version 2002 service pack 2?

Done correctly, installation of SP3 will have as a side effect, a very beneficial: Extended Support for WinXP (x 86) SP2 ends July 13, 2010. After this date, computers that run Windows XP SP2 will NOT be offered additional security updates critical (x 86), automatic updates do not work, and Windows Update Web site is not accessible until SP3 is installed.

This problem exists since the 1st Media Center. SP2 and SP3 had a difficulty, but it is obvious that it doesn't always. The same problem still exists in Vista today with a lot of other carried over from XP. System restore would work, but you do not have any good restore points so reinstall an operating system seems to be your only option.

You probably don't want to do an OS reinstall you need for Media Center, but since it does not at all, you might want to play then remove the Media Center updates and or SP3 and reinstall them.

  • Ehshell.exe error with Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2002, service pack 3

Running Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2002 with service pack 3.  I get the ehshell.exe error when I try to watch live TV.  It crashes, debug and I usually won't have to ctrl-alt-del to get anywhere.  Do not seem to have this problem before I added various updates etc, tv was fine before this date.

I'm not particularly computer so nice easy steps please...!

    Thank you, Nicholas

Ehshell.exe is a Windows system file that is used to run Microsoft Media Center. It is not a critical system file. However, the ehshell.exe file can become infected and cause errors trying to run certain programs. If the ehshell.exe is absent, it can also cause errors. Reinstall a clean copy of ehshell.exe with the Microsoft System Restore.

      • 1

Click on the "Start" menu, then click on "programs". Scroll down and click on "Accessories," then "system tools." Click "system restore."

      • 2

Click 'Next' in the window system restore for a list of points of restoration which has been archived.

      • 3

Select a restore point created before the ehshell.exe file becomes corrupt or got deleted. If no restore point until this time is listed, click on "Show restore points more" to select the one that is before this date. Click 'Next' to choose which restore point.

      • 4

Click 'Finish' to start the system restore. The computer will restart once the process is complete and the ehshell.exe file is reinstalled.
