Programs and features/shooting features on or off

I want to disable certain features to see if it will help speed up my PC.  Deactivation of the following will cause me to have problems with Windows?

1) 1) DFS Replication Service, 2). PowerShell, & 3.) PowerShell integrated scripting environment.  These features are required, or can I disable them?

Hello

Windows DFS Replication The service is a utility that allows users to reproduce or copy data files between 2 or more computers on the same network and keep them synchronized so that the same files on multiple computers.

Windows PowerShell is automation of tasks of Microsoft Framework, consisting of a shell command line and associated language of script based on top of and integrated with .NET Framework. PowerShell provides full access to COM and WMI, allowing administrators to perform administrative tasks on the systems Windows local and remote.

For, PowerShell Integrated Scripting Environment, see below:

If you do not use these services, you can disable them. However, in order to speed up your computer, you can also follow suggestions to the below mentioned link and check if it helps.

  • Pavilion dv2 Notebook: how to uninstall items in "All programs" which are not displayed via programs and features

I do not play games on my computer. I uninstalled 'My HP Games' (32 items) via the control panel. However, there are 11 items that appear in the games through "All programs", but are not displayed by the intermediary of "Control Panel / programs and features. There is also a link to eBay.com, in "All programs" that I would like to delete.

    How to uninstall these components?

    Hi @jarhtmd,

    Thank you for your response.

The sample you provided it seems there are some games that you should be able to uninstall in Add Remove programs.

For example, 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Chess'. When you look in the programs listed do you see "Microsoft Games\Chess, if so you should be able to uninstall."  It would be listed under Microsoft Games / and the name of the game.

As some of the Microsoft games that came with the Windows installation you can not have an option to uninstall them.

Those ending with "lnk" is just links. Try right click and delete.

    Good luck!

  • uninstalled a game but still shows up in programs and features

I had downloaded a copy of Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic online and I had uninstalled the game and delete files, but now that I'm trying to reinstall it on a real drive, the game is still appear in programs and features even if there are no files that I can find that are associated with. He says that there is a file that is 4 KB, which makes my computer think it is always installed, but I don't know what the file is to delete for me to reinstall the game itself. • Uninstalled program is still listed under "programs and features".

Original title: a program is listed in programs and features. It was uninstalled and deleted directories. Yet, it still shows in the list programs and features. How can I remove it?

I had installed this program before. I thought I had uninstalled. I tried to re-install this program, but cannot. I checked the list of programs, and it is still in the list, after being uninstalled. How do I remove it from the list?

    Hi n4ctf,

Take a look at this link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314481

Edit the registry to remove an entry. This link refers to Windows XP but I checked with Windows 7 and it works so it should work with Vista.

Once you have access to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall you will see a list of numbers. You will need to go through each of these numbered editions to find the program you want to remove. Click on a number in the left column, for example {08D605B4-DCD1-451F-ABD7-52E6BB868E4E} and you will see then the details is in the right column of the registry editor. See the 'full name' so check to see what the numbers program refers to.

Normally, I would recommend that you try to reinstall the application rather that tinkering with the registry, but as you have already tried unsuccessfully to re - install, change the registry could be the last option. By the way, before making any changes in the registry, make sure that you back up the registry first. This link of my website will show you how to back up the registry:http://vistasupport.mvps.org/backup_the_registry.htm

All the built-in programs that are part of the Vista operating system will NOT be displayed in programs and features. To simplify the reason, Windows Media Player 11 is part of the operating system and cannot be uninstalled. So there is not need to be listed in programs and features, whose main goal is to uninstall or repair any installed programs. Another example is Windows Defender.

    For your information:

In Windows 7, Windows Media Player 12 is also part of the operating system and it cannot be uninstalled and it will not reveal in programs and features either.

  • programs and features

I'm trying to clean up my computer. In Control Panel, under programs and features.  Where can I find a list of original programs and features that came on the machine, so I know which ones have been added later can I safely delete

It is not that simple and you can do more harm than good.  If your goal is to free up disk space, you can be able to free up enough by running the Disk Cleanup Wizard.

Even if you delete an installed program it will generally leave things behind and risk to break registry
