  Kevin, I owe you a drink. I have added the printer as a local printer (as opposed to network), entering the IP, etc print driver, restarted the computer, and... the printer remained online.   I have 3 computers I'm trying to connect to an Epson 1400 on a PSUS4 wired print spooler, 2 XP Pro, Vista 1.  One of the XP machines installed with no problem, no error.  The other 2 return the error Disaable Epson Spooler Manager.  I just attributed a new TCP/IP port for the printer using the PSUS4 IP address on the Vista machine, and it works.  On the other machine (connected WiFi - a laptop) XP I can't.
