Question about change in ODDs region settings - Satellite Pro A120

Why are there at - it limit the number of times, you can change the region settings when you watch DVDs from other countries? Why?

They don't realize the world becomes smaller and is it possible to buy DVDs from anywhere in the world? They refuse to help the global economy? I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro A120 with a carpet * a UJ841S optical drive that is locked on region 1, how can I get it unlocked and how do I get it so I can watch DVD so many different regions without having to be limited to the region of switching 5 times? Of course, I'm not the only person who feels this way, come on Tosh do something to help the consumer.

Can anyone help?

Hi Paul

What to say I put t understand this too, but there are some restrictions of manufacturers of different record companies and movie studios that don t allow you to change the region code.

The world is divided into 7 regions of DVD.
Region 1 - Canada and the U.S.
Region 2 - Europe, Japan, Middle East and South Africa
Region 3 - South and Southeast Asia
Region 4 - Australia and South America
Region 5 - Africa, the Russia and the rest of Asia
Region 6 - China

Readers of generation original DVD came with a firmware level that became known as RPC 1.
RPC 1 discs themselves are able to play any region but depends on the installed Reader software to control which region is played.

But most DVD players (* not matter what is manufacturing *) are equipped with the RPC-2.
RPC 2 drives usually come with a limit of 5 change on the regions, once the counter reaches 0, your drive is locked permanently in the last region it was settled in.
Even if you reformat or move the drive to another system, it will be always locked to the last region.

Such a region code limitation is very annoying for everyone, but nothing to do
Of course you will find many websites that provide any software programs and free non-legal area, but for the most part, these programs can damage firmware own disks and this would lead to bigger problems. In most cases readers cannot handle all mediums and can not read or burn to CD/DVD.

  • Question about installing WXP LAN Driver on Satellite Pro A120

I have a Satellite Pro A120 (PSACIE) with Vista installed. I created a dual boot with XP Prof I seem to have all the drivers except the WLAN and LAN drivers. I have downloaded the LAN driver there is no setup.exe file. No problem, (I think, maybe someone out there knows differently?).

I used Device Manager to load the file inf and intel pro/1000 PL network connection selected with the Hardware Installation Wizard. At the end the wizard said there was an error code 10 and that the device probably would not work properly.

Can anyone help? It does not of course! By pure chance that I bought a port replicator, its LAN works with XP but do not work with Vista! (There is a hint here)

Is it possible I can get details on the LAN device such as model, serial number? Any help appreciated gratefully.

    Hello

Are you sure you used a right and support for driver LAN?
Error code 10 is known to me and mostly it appears if the device cannot be started because the driver is not compatible

Ok. To my knowledge, there are two different Satellite Pro A120:
the unit of PSAC0E supports Lan Chip Realtek 8100 CL

and the PSAC1E supports the chip Intel 82573 L (Vidalia)

So, what phone do you use?

  • Question about volume adjust the volume knob - Satellite Pro U300

    Hello

I have a problem with the volume control. When I adjust the volume using the button on the left side of the laptop, I can only choose 3 levels of "loudness":

No volume, very quiet volume and maximum volume (from rabies).

Is this normal, is not anyone have problems with this?
I hope that the problem is because of the digital volume adjustment screw. The adjuster does not record the exact position of the volume button. Every time when I get a phone call at work (I listen to internet radio), I turn off the radio by using the adjustment screw on the side of the laptop. When I end the phone call, I always need to open the laptop and the volume on the windows task bar, because when I use the device volume control on the left side of the laptop, it will just immediately at maximum volume.

    Welcome them

    Hello

It s very strange that your volume control contains only 3 levels of volume
I noticed that Toshiba has released a new driver (v. 6.0.1.5473) sound on the European driver page.

How about if the update driver sound?
Audio driver certainly controls the volume sound and in my opinion it s worth a try.

    Good luck

  • How to change videoram on Satellite Pro A120?

    Hello

I own a Satellite Pro A120. The manual says that the A120 is abe to have a maximum of 128 MB videoram (shared memory). I have 512 MB internal memory.
Now he does that less than 8 MB videoram.

I can change it to e.g. 128/64? If so, how?
I am not able to change it in the Bios (Version 3.40).

    Thanks in advance.

From my experience, that is not possible you can not manually change the memory of graphics card everything is controlled by the software (graphics driver).
This means that this driver assigns a certain amount of RAM main memory graphics so it s needed. If a higher graphics card memory is not required while the graphics driver will not assign memory to s shared graphics memory

  • Questions of OpenGL on Satellite Pro A120

    Hello

I started to notice this when I installed the Google Sketchup application - which allows to use all the hardware graphics acceleration via OpenGL.
When I have the OpenGL option on, it no longer displays the objects created successfully. When I turned it OFF, it of very well and works correctly.

He was not a train smash.

As curiosity got to me, I have installed some games, namely Dungeon Siege: Legends of Aranna that uses the built-in graphics card: Mobile Intel (r) Express Chipset 945GM. Obviously, something with the graphics driver just did not work properly. I can't find a new update of pilot beyond the one I have. I'm really not worried about the game, I'm more worried about not be able to run Google Sketchup with OpenGL! It makes a big difference with OpenGL support!

I tried downloads graphics chipset from Intel, and he told me that I should talk to Toshiba... so here I am...

I would really like to know what I can do at this point... because it affects my work.

    My system is
    Laptop: Satellite Pro A120 (PSAC1E)
Mobile Intel (r) Express Chipset 945GM with the driver version: 7.14.10.1147 (current download from Toshiba)
    DirectX 10

    Thank you.

    Hello

in your case, I'll try the drivers from the Intel site that could possibly solve your problem. There could also be a chance for a solution by visiting opengl

    -> http://www.opengl.org/

and download the latest version of OpenGL. Perhaps it would be worth updating your DirectX because this could also be a reason for your problems of OpenGL...

  • Satellite Pro A120 - cannot boot from CD/DVD drive

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro A120 of friends, he was running very slow so I said I'd do the usual for him.
Back up all his documents, and then reinstall windows. not so easy!

First of all, try to boot from the CD so I can boot into Ubuntu or reinstall windows.
Me has taken long enough to work, I had to press DEL/ESC to enter in the BIOS, but once I put to boot from the CD (and was a bootable CD in the drive), it kept just boot from the HARD drive.

From time to time I get an error saying + "Media test failure - check cable" + or something similar, theres a lot on internet on this subject.
I think its something to do if the boot order has CD first, then it has LAN as 2nd.

Able to boot Ubuntu from a USB key.
Try to copy its documents on my external drive but really copying REALLY slow (like 1 MB/s) and kept getting IO errors on some files.
I can't run diagnostic software for HARD drive that I can not boot from the CD (could get the Ultimate Boot CD on a USB but if anyone thinks it would help?).

In windows, the CD player only reads real CD (audio similar DVD, not CDR and DVDR).
    This means a failing drive?
What intrigues me most, however, is that I changed the portable CD player with a CD of work of another computer and windows recognize today this new CD player at all!

By putting a bootable CD in this new CD player, it always starts from the HARD drive (do not recognize CD player in all).
The BIOS is a bit unnecessary and does not show the detected disks...

Also, boot Ubuntu from a USB key, with the original CD player, he reads real CD and DVD copied of all zeros are considered blank discs and replace the CD drive with a known working in Ubuntu means its not recognized at all (if this isn't windows driver problems).

When I started messing around with it I remember windows say the time had been reset, so I set the time properly, then he did the same thing again I think. A flat CMOS battery could not be responsible for this?

Is the motherboard and specifically the IDE controller or a broken ports, or am I doing something stupid? I'm tempted to just install Ubuntu by USB and tell him not to bother with CD more ;^)

Any suggestions or comments would be much appreciated!

    Thank you
    Dan Gent

    > Me has taken long enough to work, I had to press DEL/ESC to enter in the BIOS, but once I put to boot from the CD (and was a bootable CD in the drive), it kept just boot from the HARD drive.
You see the CD/DVD drive in BIOS? I mean all the details like the name WEIRD etc.
If this isn't the case, then it means that your CD/DVD drive is not recognized by the BIOS due to a hardware problem.

If you can see the STRANGE in the BIOS but are still not able to boot from any disk, then I suppose that the CD/DVD drive cannot read the disk for different reasons.
One of the reasons could be a defective or damage the laser lens

    > Every so often, I would get an error saying "Media test failure - check cable" or something similar, theres a lot on internet on this subject. I think its something to do if the boot order has CD first, then it has LAN as 2nd.

Yes, this error means that your laptop tried to boot from LAN

    > In windows, the CD player only reads real CD (audio similar DVD, not CDR and DVDR). This means a failing drive?

As I said above, it would be possible that the reader s laser lens malfunctions and, therefore, the ODD can't handle the media. It seems that the laser lens can not calibrate properly and can not move in the correct position. This question is not repairable and the drive needs to be replaced.

    > What intrigues me most, however, is that I changed the CD drive with a CD of work of another laptop and windows don't recognize this new CD player at all!

The fact is that not all CD/DVD drives are compatible due to different master/slave/C-salt settings. You must use the supported players! In most cases, you can find a list in your user manual what CD/DVD readers are compatible.

  • Re [lacemant 'Master' IDE Slimline Optical drive Satellite Pro A120

    Hello

I am looking for a replacement CD for a Toshiba Satellite Pro A120 (laptop) drive.
Been reading about this for awhile as it does not work I tried all IDE slimline drive replacements.

From my research, it requires a slimline IDE optical drive is "rider" to master.
Like its slimline there are select no riders while I am aware that they are made as master or cable.
They cannot be changed by flashing the BIOS or to make a weld, or they can be bought like that.

As I need a new in any case I would rather buy one that is guaranteed to be compatible.
Does anyone have an idea how to tell if slimline optical IDE drivers come as master or cable select?

Or a place to get the spare parts?
    I am also in England.

    Fine thanks
    Dan Gent

    > If only the people who make the readers have access to the file, I could use to Flash the ODD with?
Perhaps. Always is it that you need a compatible software/firmware that would change these settings.

    > What is an ASP? Active server page ;^)
    Authorized Service provider/partner

    > Is there any where that I could buy a master drive set?
You could try to buy a second hand car which has been mentioned in the user manual.
I downloaded from the Toshiba page and found these drives:

    Panasonic UJ-841BJTJ-J DVD
    Panasonic UJDA770TB-A
    TEAC DV - 28TH - RT4
    TEAC CD 224TH-NT4

  • Satellite Pro A120 - Second hard drive on secondary IDE channel

    Hello

    I have a Satellite Pro A120 xp sp3.
I tried so it can recognize a 2nd hard drive on the secondary ide channel, but it will not. CD player has been removed and replaced by one of them, the with the pata to sata interface.

    [http://newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_27&produc ts_id = 245]

The second hard drive is a 500 GB seagate sata drive. Drive is spinning and powered but not appearing is not in the Manager of management or storage device.

In the Bio (uptodate), it shows me it but won't let me change it.

    The readers of e/s
Built on the disk HARD = serial ATA port 0
    CD rom = secondary ide (170H - IRQ 15)

For me, the material is able to support two HARD drives that you remove the cd player, but it seems that the bio is me locking out the deselection of CD-ROM on the second IDE channel.
Please could someone point me in the right direction to solve this problem.

    Thank you
    Zander

    Hello

I read this story carefully and to be honest I m not sure if a second HDD (instead of the STRANGE) can be used

My knowledge the IDE second controller does support all the ODD (CD/dvd drive) due to different master/slave/c-salt settings.
I think it's the same case, why the second HDD is not recognized correctly

  • Satellite Pro A120 battery problem

    Hi all

I have a portable Satellite Pro A120 and is a battery problem a month ago.
The battery is not new, but recently changed, 6 months ago.
Until a few weeks ago, it lasted about 2 hours when full load, until this time
    suddenly dropped 30-40 minutes.
In addition, sometimes the power of the laptop turns off when it's a few extra vibrations,
for example, if I put it on a table without the maximum protection.
In some cases, these, is not possible to turn on the laptop, unless I have remove the battery and put it back in place.

I initially though that there was a problem with the battery or the battery contacts, but they seem ok.
I tried to unload it in my laboratory of the company with a power resistance: resistance absorbed 1A continuously for more than 3 hours. As the specification 4400mAh battery, I would say that the battery is ok.

Is it possible that I have a problem with the battery inside the pc management circuit?
The battery stress test above seems to show that the charging process is ok. So the problem might be with
the provision of monitor or battery power.
Someone at - it experience of similar problems and maybe a solution.
Or perhaps a work around? As excluding the battery monitoring and auto turn off

    Thanks in advance
    Concerning

    > Is it possible I have a problem with the battery inside the pc management circuit?
Perhaps, but that's just a guess only a cellphone technician may provide an exactly the answer to this question.

    > Furthermore, sometimes the power of the laptop turns off when it's some additional vibration.
for example, if I put it on a table without the maximum protection.
In some cases, these, is not possible to turn on the laptop, unless I have remove the battery and put it back in place.

It is very strange, I want to say if the contacts of the battery and the battery would be ok, this symptom shouldn't its sounds strange for me, so maybe that's the key why battery don't not lasts more than 30-40 min

However, I think you should try a new battery before checking the motherboard.

  • Satellite Pro A120 boot disc

I'm trying to install xp on my Satellite Pro A120 (PSAC1E), which is under Vista Business (somehow) 1 GB of RAM. I tried to set BIOS to boot from the CD-ROM, I tried the setting to boot from the CD-ROM using screen splach (F4) options. The snoring of CD player and I can hear it trying to read the disc (and ongoing); However, the system hangs on the screen 'Press any key to boot from the CD-ROM..' black and does not reach the blue screen with white writing. If I let the points to continue across the screen I just get the boot options for Vista or memory diagnostic utility.

The optical drive is correct: I can open the disc and run Setup (without the install option) within windows.
The disc is not serious: I installed the XP Pro SP2 on other PCs without problem

I thought it might be the problem with SATA driver, but after downloading the drivers and compiled a disc using nLite, I realized my mistake - if it will not boot from the CD what well to put the drivers on the CD?

We have several A120 at work and I can't get an any of them to start from a win XP Pro SP2 disk!

Now, I think there must be a setting that prevents the downgrade from Vista to XP: I don't have the know-how to install windows from DOS or I would try to format the drive and put the files on the hard drive and then installing that way.

Any help would be appreciated... Vista Business can be good with 3 GB of RAM, but not with one. How did the Toshiba when they put this package together?

    Thanks in advance

    Orbitfish

    Hello

I doubt that this question has something to do with the SATA drivers. You only need the SATA drivers on the blue screen with white letters where you can choose if you want to install XP (press enter) or you can choose the repair console (press R).
But on this screen, you will need the SATA drivers. Otherwise, the HARD disk will not be recognized.

However, in your case, I'll try another XP disc. I know the drive works in another computer but maybe your ODD does not work properly, and so it can t read any disk. Then please try another.

In addition, you should try to load the default settings in the BIOS. Maybe it works.

Have you tested another bootable disk?
    Check this please!

  • Satellite Pro A120 - battery not found

    Hello

Technical details: I have a Satellite Pro A120, purchased about four years, running MS Vista. A year ago I noticed my battery has been virtually exhausted and bought a new battery (this one, to be exact: [http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0028NJAL2]). Since last year it worked very well and I have no reason to suspect that the battery itself might have a problem. Most of the time, I have the laptop plugged in, in any case.

However, recently (last few weeks, I think) I started to have occasional problems when all of a sudden I am notified that the battery can not be found - or rather, there is no actual notification, but the power icon in the changes of system tray with a small red on it X, and then the computer hangs. The touchpad still works and I can move the pointer on the screen, but absolutely nothing else says and there is no way out next to a hard reboot. Sometimes, if I catch the icon change from time to time and unplug the power cord (force the computer running on battery), it actually corrects issues. Not always, though.

Attempts to seek similar problem descriptions online were not very useful; most of the time, the description does not exactly fit my situation or the Seraph blames the battery or the operating system (which, in my case, to be as the wrong answers, since I said the battery generally works well, and I had the same OS from the start). Also a search of these forums did not have no useful result. I'll call my go - to computer store and see if their engineers have all the answers or if it's just the time to take the old horse pasture and find a new filly, but thought that perhaps the good people on this forum may be able to offer advice (additional).

    Thanks in advance,
    Yael

    > Attempts to seek similar problem descriptions online were not very useful; most of the time, the description does not exactly fit my situation, or the Seraph blames the battery or the operating system (which, in my case, to be as the wrong answers, since I said the battery generally works well, and I had the same OS from the beginning)

I think that no one will be able to tell what's wrong exactly; I think it is s battery issue but of course, no one can say it it s battery maybe motherboard or just a software problem. OPERATING SYSTEM.

Usually, the software should not affect the functionality of the battery and I think that it s more material associated.
The laptop is a little old and the battery seems to be old too so I think that the battery needs to be checked first

  • Satellite Pro A120 - does not start with 4 GB of memory

    Hi all

I'm new here so please be gentle!

I have a Satellite Pro A120, model No. PSACOE - 037014EN and you want to increase the memory 512 MB present. I tried 2 different sets of memory 4 GB (2x2gb), but the machine does not start. I tried the different modules together and on their own but still no joy.

Where I'm going wrong? This model will not take 2 GB memory modules?

    Any advice will be appreciated.

    Best regards

    Dr. Feelgood

    Hello

Before changing something about your hardware, please make sure that if the computer supports the new pieces of material and, therefore, you can also consult the user manual.

Anyway, I checked this and this laptop can only be upgraded to 2 GB maximum. This means that you can use the module of 1 GB in each slot and * no * 2 GB in each slot.

So please bring back the memory modules and buy 2x1GB. It will work.

  • How to install the driver LAN for Satellite Pro A120

In fact, my problem is that I didn't know how to install the driver on my Satellite Pro A120 lan connect net throug.
The issue that there's no facility to do to complete the installation.

And theres other question that I need the Ethernet controller

My laptop was vista operating system installed, but I change and put Windows XP

    Please help me

    Hello

    LAN installation is very easy.
First of all, you need the correct LAN driver.
In order to download the LAN driver please visit the Toshiba driver page and choose your model of laptop.

Once the LAN driver has been downloaded, you will need to decompress.
Then you will need to access the Device Manager, choose the controller Ethernet (network cards) and must point to the place where the LAN driver was decompressed.

    Then finish the installation procedure.

    Hello

According to all specifications of this notebook doesn't TruBrite display. By the way for this laptop is "money supply". Not bad!!!

I read somewhere that Satellite A120 has the same construction as Tecra A8 and it must have really good unit interpreted.
