  I have a (10.2.0.2.0) database configured with dataguard and we want to increase the SGA. We want to upgrade the RAM in the server (Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2 Server 5.2 Service Pack 2 (32-bit)) with double (actually 8G) RAM memory:
  
  The steps would be next? :
  
  -SQL > alter system set sga_max_size = 16G scope = spfile;
  
  -SQL > alter system set sga_target = 16G scope = spfile;
  
  -immediate cessation;
  
  -Start;
  
  Even in the database pending?

  Yes - it will not break the day before, but you should note that failover or crossing - new primary school will have one less memory allocated.

  I plan to buy a new computer dell laptop XPS to install Oracle Apps R12 with node 2 11g RAC DB by creating virtual machines.
  
  Configuration:
  

  generation of Intel processor i5-2410 2 (2.3 GHz, core 2, 3 MB cache)
  8 GB RAM DDR3
  750 GB HARD drive

  this configuration will be sufficient for the highest installation? RAM? Processor?
  
  I've read a few threads over on this forum where people have recommended for installation of single application (11i or R12), this kind of configuration can be enough.

  You need at least 4 GB for installation on a single node R12. So, if you plan to have 3 VMs (1 application node) and 2 RAC nodes or 4 virtual machines (2 application and 2 RAC nodes), then I suggest that you add more memory. However, your RAM should work, but don't expect (if you go with 3 VMs) but do not expect the performance to be perfect.

  As you know, I'm doing this upgrade. Now my current situation will be R12.1.1 with 10.2.0.5.
  If I want to improve my database of EBS 11 basic GR 1 material can I use 11 GR 1 material provided with R12.1.1 the installation of upgrade codes chart.
  
  I mean I want to follow the steps described in the doc
  Interoperability Notes E-Business Suite R12 with Oracle Database 11 GR 1 (11.1.0) material [ID 735276.1]
  point 10 of section 1. It will be ok.

  You must follow all the steps under "Section 1: upgrade a R12 database to Oracle Database 11g Release 1 (11.1.0).

  Please note that GR 11, 2 is certified with Oracle Apps R12, then I would tell you to go with 11 GR 2 instead of 11 GR 1 material

  I went thru these notes before only. But these so-called notes already existing applications can be converted to the CARS. But I'm looking for new configuration, installation and configuration or R12 with RAC. Could you please help me on this...

  RapidWiz does not have the install feature Oracle Apps with RAC of installation/configuration, so you'll have to do a traditional installation then follow the documents to configure the RAC database.

• With Dataguard CARS migration

  We are migrating from Solaris to Linux environment.
  2 node rac (primary) with node 2 rac (standby) - > 2 node rac (primary) with node 2 rac (standby) in the target.
  Oracle Version is 10.2.0.4.0.
  
  High level for our migration plan is to build the target environment primary and standby. Take the datapump source export and import into the target.
  The database size is 250 GB.
  
  It is the first time that I do for CARS migration with dataguard.
  I want to know the steps when importing the discharge of datapump to primary targets and target in standby mode.
  (1) I think firstly import primary and then import into sleep mode. Is this the right method?
  (2) any other best practices?
  (3) for export and import to the new size of 250 GB database environment, about how long is the necessary downtime?

  Yes, it again will transfer to standby mode.

  Please note that the importation of datapump will generate redo, but if you do Data Pump import TRANSPORTABLE TABLESPACE mode then it will not generate any recovery for imported data information.

  We are upgrading a database 10.2.0.5 to 12.1.0.2 R12.0.6. using dbua

  -The pre - upgrade processing time is 30 minutes or less

  -The upgrade process is 2 hours 10 minutes

  -Upgrade Post is almost ran for 7 - 8 hours - > how to reduce this time or speed up this process.

  I kept the

  job_queue_process to 1000

  SGA - 2 G

  PGA - 1 G

  Are there other settings to optimize the upgrade of point of view?

  The process upgrade done Post INVALIDS and for an hour, is validate near 10000 objects. Y at - it another way to reduce downtime. ? 36 hours is the maximum time that I have.

  Yes, it should be faster on production with this number of processors. I don't think that you need to change the number 4 to 12 as DBUA is smart enough to detect the number of processors and parallelism will be set to default 12.

  You don't want to risk going with the largest number since it is the production, if you had a similar hardware, where you can try this on a cloned instance then fine but otherwise I would personally stick with the maximum suggested by DBUA.

  As I know that when we install 11gR2.scan oracle listener and scan vip was created in GRID_HOME. The listener to scan comes with the default port.
  
  
  As R12 by default comes with 11.1.0.7. According to oracle note ID - 823587.1
  
  We must follow the procedure below.
  
  srvctl add listener-l listener_ebs o < ORACLE_HOME 11 GR 2 > < port EBS database > Pei

• Active backup with dataguard

  We run on 'Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.1.0'. We have 2 servers. A back-end database and an active dataguard. I have the new control Grid Enterprise Manager 11 g running on a separate server from Linux to control and manage my databases.
  
  Policy is to have 4 hours dataloss. In the past (I managed everything with control grid 10, but things did not work, as well as with the new... problems with recovery catalog database and other..) I backed up my database primary with normal backup at 04:00 and a differential every 3 hours... The retention policy, it's that we should be able to return 3 days.
  
  Now, I have installed the new grid control. I created a catalog of recovery on that server. The goal is to use the standby database (active) mark my backups using the recovery catalog. Is this possible?... If I want to set up the catalog of recovery on the day before databast it does not work... (oem said: "you can not configure the setting of recovery for a database catalog physics standbyu...") I can't also put in place a retention policy using my database pending... Databases should be in place 24/7... can't take them down!
  
  Anyone suggestions how to proceed. Or should I keep my first backupping? It should be easy to possibly retrieve problems. Don't know if it's easier if I backup Primay...

  If they both registered OK that you can back up the database now and I see the output as perfectly OK for me IF you have defined locations correctly.

  If I were you I would like to backup the primary database rather than on the standby database, but I think that there is no limitation for the backup of the database on hold. You can also take a backup of the database on hold, but for me it's not logical.

  You can take a full backup of the primary database and write metadata in the catalog of recovery that you can activate the option to block change tracking and start using the incremental strategy. This way you reduce the load on the database during maintenance hours.

  According to these documents, like Teradata is certified with EBS R12. However, I would suggest you contact the software vendor and confirm if these tools/software are certified (and can be integrated) with Oracle E-Business Suite or not.
