Remove a data store

I need to remove a data store so that I can reformat vmfs3 to vmfs5. It is my understanding that vcenter will not introduce any APD or correct payday loans? The LUN will remain visible to all guests, as I said I just need to remove the data store on this subject, so I can recreate it with vmfs5.

I guess after I remove it, I should questions some hosts renumerisations (except done automatically vcenter) before I recreate?

Thank you.

You are right, since you don't anyone the LUN, there is no problem with ODA...

Simply remove the data store and create a new one. After that you can rescan all hosts so that they detect the new format.

  • Can I remove this data store?

    Hello guys,.

I free up space in a storage, and for that to work correctly, I followed the following steps:

    1. I created a new data store in other containers for storage.

2 - I did a migration of storage of the old data store to the new.

3 - remove the old VMDATA.

At this point, I glued, because the old data store is not empty... West a strange folder inside, but I don't know if I can remove it, as you can see in the image below.

files and folder in dotted lines are normally for the metadata of the data store itself.

so, you can delete the data without any problem store.

BTW. If you delete a data store and it is still used by a virtual machine the delet-job will be cancelled. There is a small security bit set

Have you read this KB? http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalID=2055137

You basically have vCenter Server 5.1 patch 1 installed? If not, and you want to upgrade to work around this problem, disable vSphere HA for Cluster parameters, delete the affected data store and then reactivate vSphere HA.

  • How to remove a data store abandoned?

Hello! I am the systems administrator for my organization where we have HP P6300 storage attached to our cluster of ESXi5. Usually, if we need a new Vdisk to any virtual computer, we create a new vdisk in storage and add them as a new data store in Vsphere, then we create the file within this new data store vmdk. I had to remove a disk of a virtual server. The steps are as below:

1 remove the data from the drive

    2. remove the disk from the virtual machine and delete the vmdk file

3 remove the data from the cluster of data store store

    4. remove the data store

5 remove the vCenter store data (inventory------Clusters data store and data warehouses-right click on the data store and delete)

6 - anyone the vdisk to ESXi hosts

7 remove the vdisk to Storage Manager.

    But I made a mistake and missed the STEP n ° 4 and 5.

Now I see the attached message whenever I'm trying to remove it. Guidelines for this problem and remove this missing data store in the vCenter?

    Thank you

OK, you have a way of death. The only way to fix it must restart the host.

  • Safely remove a data store

I need to remove for good 2 data stores.  I first clicked each guest vm using these data storages and delete selected.  Data warehouses now show as empty when he is gone.  Can I just to right click\delete each empty data warehouses?  I would like to delete the corresponding LUN on the SAN (VNX) as the last step.  Can someone verify that it's correct.  I remember having a problem with this some time ago.  vCenter is version 5 - ESX 4.0 U2.  Thank you.

The procedure will be the same for 4.x, then Yes, there will be some host commands involved. It seems really involved, but it really isn't so bad. Much better than potential wickedness that could come to remove them is not the right way.

  • Cannot remove the data store

    Hello

I am trying to remove a shared in Vsphere 5.0 SAN data store, and it fails to say that the datstore is in use. When I try to take it apart there is a red cross next to the statement that no virtual machines must be present. The data store is empty and afaics no point of virtual machines don't have any disk pointing it at all. He got a present HA heartbeat folder but I've reconfigured HA no to use the DS and could then remove the folder HA and empty so the DA, but still in use reports

    Gerry,

Is it possible that your virtual machine contains a cd connected to the data store? I came across that once where a virtual machine was showing that the use of two data warehouses, but there files were only in one. I found that I had connected the reader of cd/dvd via the client to a file that was in this other data store. Just a thought.

  • Could not start the new virtual machine or VM remove a data store

    Hi guys,.

I'm not new with ESXi, but my knowledge with vCenter and Clustering must be improved, so here's my problem.

We have a Cluster of 2 ESXi 4.1 hosts on a San with 2 VMFS.

My first problem is when I created a new virtual machine and try to start it, I got an error message similar to the one included with this post.

My Second problem is more picky. Since I am unable to start my new virtual machine, I had removed from drive and I had created a new. But when I took a peek in the data store where was deleted VM, the directory with all the files are still there. When I try to delete it, I got an error message telling me that it is impossible to proceed.

    Q please?

    Best regards

    Stéphane

82% of failure can be other issues.  The article below

    http://KB.VMware.com/kb/1006052

Also, I saw, where bad records DB for your ESXi hosts can cause weird problems as well.  The host with the problematic guest, can you do a right click on it and "disconnect"?  Try to get out of the bunch at the data center level.  If you get an error vCenter, that means return folder DB.  From there, while the host is in a disconnected state, remove the host to vCenter, then "add host". This will update the DB record.  Maybe worth it?

  • Error to remove empty data store - the resource is in use.

    Hello world

I'm having a problem with the removal of my empty data VMFS3 store I rebooted the host already, but somehow, he's always stuck not asupprimer, can someone help me remove this empty data VMFS3 store please?

    Thank you.

I like to use the tab 'Maps' to see if any SMV always access the data store.  It is much easier to check the settings for a good number of virtual machines.

Select the "Maps" tab and just put a check mark in the box for VM to the data store

    Click apply relationships

If there is no line in the data store to be deleted, it means that a virtual machine is always oriented to the data store.

If this is the case, change the settings of the virtual machine so it does not more point to this data store.

  • Cannot remove the data store in esxi 3.5 - can help you

OK - I have a problem. I messed up and now I'm stuck.

I was "apparently" in the middle of a converter working, and I deleted the comments of esxi3.5, while the converter still worked.

I selected the rafale and made a removal of the disc that worked, however the structure of associated file (windows 2000 Server) for this guest has not been deleted, so I chose my data store (datastore1) and - do you have a store of navigation data and when I try to delete the folder associated with the guest, I deleted I get the following error :

"General failure caused by file" (with a "/" on the next line) and all I can do at this point is to click OK box to acknowledge the error and I can't delete the folder. I can't rename it either.

I don't know how to get rid of it. I tried to create a new client with the same name as the folder and delete the comments again, but that does not work either.

I'm really stuck - I'm afraid to go into maintenance mode because I have no idea what I'm going to be confronted here since I never used the maintenance mode.

any help or ideas would be really appreciated.

You can try to do a refresh of the data store. The folder structure is not re read very often. In the data store Navigator, click the folder root on the left side and click on the Refresh button.

  • Possible to remove the data store shared without deleting content?

Is it possible to delete a data store shared a host, without actually deleting content?

If there are several hosts who share a store of data and for some reason any I delete the data of one of them, store connection can I do this without a deletion of all the virtual machines on the data store, as shown in the warning above?

You can delete single LUN on the side storage (for example by hiding the it).

Before that... do not forget that without virtual machines are running on it.

After that... do a rescan storage adapters.

Do you have other files (ISO etc.) on this data store?

It looks like one of the natures of the virtual machine have a reference in the data store.

Perhaps an orphan VM, which is still in the inventory or one currently powered off VM with a reference to the data store.

  • alleged connection to the data store local preventing vmotion

I have a VM that signals a connection to the local data store on its host, and therefore can't do vMotion elsewhere.  The virtual machine has two virtual drives, which are both on a SAN storage.  The virtual machine has been previously connected to an ISO on the local data store, but it has since been replaced by client device.  He always insists that he's using something on this data store, however.  I've looked through the vmx file and don't see any reference to it.  I also tried to remove the data store, but he claims that the file system is in use.  The hosts have been recently updated to esxi 6.0 U2, and it's the only VM that now seems this behavior.  Any suggestions on what could be the cause?  It is a server important enough in this environment, and be locked into a single host makes me a little anxious.

Turns out it was because of an old cliché.  If you get an ISO from a data store and take a snapshot, the virtual machine will keep a link to that store of data even after changing the client machine.  As soon as you delete the snapshot, this relationship goes, and access to this database is therefore more a review when searching valid hosts.

  • Good way to delete a data store

I'm not sure this is the right forumr for my question. If not, can someone please point me to the right one?

I need to remove two LUNS on a storage (HP LeftHand).

The lun host 2 warehouses of data used by a 5.5 vSphere cluster composed of 3 5.5 U2 ESXi servers.

I have to perform the activity during execution of virtual machines and I can not create any problem or performance for VMS running problem.

So I need to create a checklist as accurate and complete as possible...

    Here's my Checklist:

    • I removed all the VMS since data warehouses
    • I deleted all the files from data warehouses
    • I removed data warehouses from the list of data used by pulsation HA stores
    • I checked that the sacratchconfig. ConfiguredScratchLocation for each node indicates a different datadtore of those that I am giung to remove

Can I safely remove the files inside the folder .vSphere-HA?
Should what else you check before removing the data store?

Is there anything else I should consider?

For well detach and remove datatores take a look at http://kb.vmware.com/kb/2004605.

In fact, there is nothing which will cause problems. If you try to take it apart (or delete) a data store it will work either (if anything accesses the database), or you receive an error/warning message. Once a datatore is disassembled or deleted, you must detach the LUNS for each host, and - after unpresenting a LUN of Lefthand CMC and run a new analysis on the hosts - you can do the cleaning (esxcli storage core detached unit remove d NAA_ID) on the hosts.

I am not able to disassemble a data store. The validation of the VM presence test is a failure. I checked there is no virtual machine running in the DS. Initially, there are two files orphaned hard which I deleted. But it still does not allow me to disassemble the DS.

Even if the files are present in the data store, you can remove the data store (VMFS file system) on the LUN device. I've attached screenshots step by step where I did exactly the same activity on our environment. Here, I had some files on the data store that I wanted to turn off unwanted. Let me know if you can follow it without problems in your environment. -Thor.

  • Migration of virtual machines from a data store, and then delete the data store?

    Hello

I have a future deployment this month and my Director wants to build a new RAID 6 array, create a store of data with the new table and then move all the VMS to the newly created data store.

Then he asked me to take the old data store and remove it and the available space between the deleted data store and other stores of data in our shared environment. The question is when the new raid is created and vm has migrated to the new data store, which is the best way to remove the data store empty and make sure that the space available for other data stores? Any help would be appreciated...

    Greg ~.

If all controls are met, you can go ahead and take it apart without any problem.

    I have re-iterate below checks:

-No virtual machine is in the data store

-The data store is not part of the cluster data store

-The data store is not managed by the DRS storage

-IGCS is disabled for this data store

-The data store is not used for vSphere HA heartbeat.

Especially highlighted 2 controls. Please note that SIOC can be enabled on the data without SDR photo store
