  • Drive external drive to backup to time capsule

I use my Time Capsule to back up my computer automatically, but I would also like to use as a backup to my external hard drive. How can I implement that? I tried dragging the files into the Capsule of time on the Finder and it does not allow me to do.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Any drive connected to your Mac can be included in the backup Time Machine.

Go to the preferences of TM and remove the exclusion of an external drive... which will add to the backup.

    Alternatives are also good.

I highly recommend to use Carbon Copy Cloner... which is $ 40

You can copy and paste the files, but it is better to first create a folder on the TC.

Don't drag the files in the root directory.

Drag the files into the sparsebundle TM.

Make sure you that you get TC drive in finder yourself... otherwise you ruin the backup TM.

  • Movement music from itunes to a new external drive

    Hello!

So there are a lot of questions in the face of this general problem, but I found no one who comes close to my situation.

There are at present all music from my iTunes (~1.4 TB) library is shared between two external drives. I just bought a new laptop (3 TB) and would like to move - preferably not copy, I know that straight-up moving items between volumes is possible in the terminal, I don't know the right commands - all this music to the new drive. My iTunes Library.itl and the rest of the folder iTunes at the same time, are on my computer, I don't know if we keep them there or move them as well.

I use any file "iTunes Media. Most of my library is rips of CD and downloads without loss, and I prefer to keep the organized myself (as including scans of records covers music and writing notes and other information about the record such as comments). "Keep iTunes Media folder organized" and "Copy the files into the iTunes Media folder when adding to library" is, therefore, both uncontrolled. And I think that naming a new file on the new drive as "iTunes Media" and then checking "Consolidate files" in the file > library > organize library to copy all the music she would keep the folder structure I created or transfer through the images, log files, PDF files, etc..

Can anyone advise on what would allow me to do this with a minimum of disruption to my iTunes library (IE not having to add all and recreate all my playlists, etc., which, in itself, would take another hours 20, or whatever on top of the amount of time it will take to move all files?)

    Thanks in advance!

    OS X 10.7.5 / iTunes 12.1.2.27

If you want iTunes to do the work (as expected), let iTunes do its work...    That would mean designate a location on the new drive for the iTunes Media folder (in the Advanced iTunes preferences pane) by using the command to "consolidate files" (-> library menu bar-> organize the library-> consolidate the files).

IF all your current iTunes media on the external drive files are on a SINGLE volume (not two), you can copy your folder structure complete (for your iTunes media files) to the new volume of external hard drive (using the Finder).  Then with iTunes works DO NOT, unplug the old external drive and rename the new external drive exactly the same name volume as the old volume of external drive.  Basically, do the new disc looks like the old drive to iTunes.  When you run iTunes, the "routes" to its multimedia files are the same as before, so iTunes sees no difference.

But since your iTunes media is 'shared between two external drives', you can't do it cleanly.  If a part is much more important, you could do the above with the majority only.  Now, at this point, you can use it in this way, with the new external drive as your main expansion of storage in course, and existing 'other' always connected player.  In iTunes, it seems again the same as before.

If you want that all your media files to iTunes on the new external drive...  Copy this second folder (with your smallest part of iTunes media) structure to the new external drive (using the Finder).  With iTunes doesn't work DO NOT, unplug the 'other' external drive.  When you run iTunes, it loses track of media files in this part (but keep those songs with exclamation point in the library).  This next part may or may not work.  When iTunes spot is no longer a song file, when you try to play it, iTunes will ask if you want to locate.  I heard that if you do this for a song (by pointing to the new location for this piece), iTunes can extrapolate the locations for the other files 'disappeared' of the song.  If it does not work with the first song (or partially works), try to do it for a little more.  Worst case, you will need to add the songs in the smaller part manually.

  • How to make several records to reappear after I did accidentally one "delete" in my list of folder on an external drive?

    Help please!

I accidentally did a right click to remove my files on an external drive. The external hard drive is in my list of files, but none of the folders that are still on it.

The pictures are always in the folders on the drive and in their records.  I tried an import files for to displays, and LR sees all of them as existing in the catalog, so he knows about the photos.  And LR is the re not important.

I just want the folders appear again in my list of folders on the left.

Someone knows how to fix this error, I did? Thank you.

For anyone interested, I had to add a folder to my external hard drive, then right-click and select VIEW the PARENT FOLDER.  ADOBE's SUPPORT thank you, I'm so relieved, feel stupid, but relieved.

  • Just migrated to the new MacBook Pro and plugged an external drive with VM - has made "move" or "copy"?

    Hi-

I just used Migration Assistant to transfer my account (including Fusion) of my old MBP to my new MBP. My VIsta 64 - bit VM Fusion is and resides on an external HARD drive. so, after the migration successful (apparently) I connected the external drive to the new machine and (ii) grown up merge.  Fusion has seen the virtual machine, I selected to motorise the. Merge request now:

Did you move this virtual machine, or you copied it?

It seems to me that I did, nor as the volume disk external DRIVE containing the Vista VM was not mounted at the time of migration (in fact, the drive has been disconnected). I copied the platform, including the Fusion, from one physical machine to another.

I know this is probably an easy answer, but I don't want to blow up this very important step in getting my new machine, running and functional.  ?:|

    Help!

    Instant wrote:

Thus, it is "moved", even if no bit VM have been transferred or altered in any way and the virtual machine remains resident in the same volume on the external hard drive?

Yes, it's "I moved it" in order to maintain the same UUID and MAC address, which should keep the machine virtual Windows FRO Windows Product Activation trigger.

    Now to the other...

As I pointed out in the original post, and you noted in your response, I transferred Fusion to the new machine (for the internal HARD disk) via the Migration Wizard. What should I do now? Uninstalling merge on the new machine, and then download and reinstall? (I'm on v2.04; I guess I would upgrade comes in support of w/SL v2.05...) ? Or NOT uninstall but rather update to v2.05 (easier)?

I run the uninstall and then install Fusion 2.0.5. (Note: Fusion 2.x is not a dynamic update)  Uninstalling/reinstalling also Fusion will not delete your Virtual Machines.

  • Use LR5. Because of volume and the size of the photos, I use an external hard drive. When opening LR5 it references only the local hard disk. How can I change the refernce to read the external drive. Thank you

Use LR5, due to volume and the size of the photos, I use an external hard drive. LR refers only the Local Drive C not outside. Where do I change this by LR read the external drive. Grateful for the help.

    Thank you

LR is not a file Explorer. He knows only the disks that you imported photos of.

If you have previously imported these photos, then later moved into the external hard drive, go to the library files and "update location" Panel on the files that you moved.

If you have never imported these images on the external hard drive, perform an import by using the option 'Add' (not ' copy') to keep the images on the external hard drive during import.

  • External drive icons will not change/update

    It drives me crazy...

I have 3 icons from external drive, which I'm trying to customize.  The VERY FIRST icon I pasted on them worked as expected, after that changes are all or nothing...

In a specific case, I see the following:

I put the drive on ANOTHER mac, the icon displayed as expected.

I attach the drive to my main computer, the icon shows:

If no other external drives are mounted: the custom 'player/b' icon who was NEVER stuck on the current drive

If "drive/b" mentioned above is mounted: the OLD icon I deleted out of and pasted multiple times more

In short I am the guarantee to see either an icon that was NEVER attached to the car in question, OR the first icon I changed it manually the reader to.

NEVER the drive icon I have several times tried to affect the reader, and that appears on all them Mac says drive is attached to...

And if you're wondering, I rebooted several times and forced leave finder several times all to no effect...

You can remove the stacked icons and revert to the default. Then, apply your new icon.

    I find.

opening and in the preview image,

    order A (select all)

    then copy

    then paste the better works.

  • Change the password on external hard drive

    Hi all

on my iMac 21.5 ", I recently updated my Mac HD internal to El Capitan 10.11.  There are now several major programs (for example MPEG Streamclip and Photoshop elements 11) which worked fine under Yosemite, but are not compatible with El Capitan.

On an external hard drive, I installed Yosemite 10.10.2 in late 2014 when it was the last version of OS X.  Only, I installed a system on the usual external drive boot on the internal HD failure.  All of these programs (also installed on the external hard drive) work very well in Yosemite.

When I start on the hard disc to access these programs, I had problems when I need to make changes for which the system requires a user and a password.  I don't remember what they were.  Is it possible to change the password (given that I can identify the user name in the "Users" folder), please?

    Best regards, paulranger1.

Please open the Startup disk preferences window and select the volume on the external hard disk. You must change this selection on the internal drive after the reset of the password.

Start in recovery mode. When OS X Utilities window, select

    Utilities ▹ Terminal

in the menu bar at the top of the screen, not one of the items in the OS X Utilities window.

In the window that opens, type this:

    resetp

Press the tab key. The partial order you entered will automatically end this:

    resetpassword

Press return. Opens a window to reset the password. Close the Terminal window to get him out of the way.

Select the boot volume ("Macintosh HD", unless you have given it a different name) if not already selected. You won't be able to do this if FileVault is turned on.

Select your username in the menu option allows you to select the account if not already selected.

Follow the prompts to reset the password. It is safer to choose a password that includes only the characters a - z, A - Z and 0-9.

    Select

    ▹ Restart 

    in the menu bar.

You should now be able to login with the new password, but will reset the keychain (empty). If you have forgotten the password for the keychain (which is normally the same as the password for the connection), there is no way to recover it.

Your description of what you did does not sense, so it is difficult to determine what are the things to the State in so it is difficult to give you advice on how to solve this problem.

As a first observation, although when you got first the reader he might well have been formatted in FAT32, storage of files on it has no "Edit."  Because Windows understands FAT32, files would have stored on the HDD external and recovered as usual.  However, FAT32 imposes a 4 GB file size limit, so if you work with video, you probably want to reformat the drive to NTFS.  Sure, reformatting the drive erased everything that was on the disk, so I hope you kept your files to their original location before formatting.  If you format the drive without saving files AND that you have not used the drive, you can recover the data by using a tool likeRecuva data recovery.  Of course, the recovery of a 1 TB drive will take time...

Please, step by step in detail what you were doing as "the process of change to ntfs.

Please describe what shows disk management, in the upper pane, both in the lower pane.

There should be 10 columns in the upper pane:
    Volume
    Page layout
    Type
    File system
    Status
    Capacity
    Free space
    % Free
    Fault tolerance
    Overhead

The lower pane should have a color bar (or bars) that indicates if the space is used as a partition primary, unallocated, etc..  You can see the colors associated with different types on the view > settings > appearance tab.  The lower pane should also indicate if the drive is "online".

  • Files on the external drive have changed to shortcuts, can not access.

I click on an element and it says the following to "the item this shortcut referred to in jaemaat.scr has been changed or moved. "so this shortcut will no longer work correctly you want to remove?" but the record still shows the same amount of spaced used as before that the question (32.8 GB used from 265 GB). I clicked to display hidden files as shown here, but has not seen a virus when I click on new folder. I scanned with Norton and it found 2 problems and fixed but I can not access anything whatsoever. How can I recover my files? Also does it matter if I'm not on the same computer I have initially oploaded files from, he gave me a little old and slow.

    Hello

It is not advisable to keep an external driver connected to the computer during startup. When a computer starts, and it detects an external drive it will assign the next available drive. While the network drive later loads the first available drive letter is assigned to the external drive.

I suggest you to re - assign the drive letter on the external drive and then check if that helps, follow the link for more information.

  • The drive letter for the files on my external drive does not match the designated letter MyWindowsApp, after briefly changing pots

On my Windows 7 laptop, I briefly moved an external hard drive to a USB port to another and then back.

The reader is referred to as F, as it was originally, but since the temporary move the path for some files now show that E.

I went to disk management and confirmed that the drive is detected as F.

This disrupts programs such as Adobe Premiere Elements. It always hurts new information loaded in the disc I load that is in F, but the said path E. The file is clearly on record.

    Hello

I see that, after changing the port, the drive letter for the external drive has changed. I'll help you with this problem.

    1. What is the brand and model of the computer?

    2. what security software is installed on the computer?

You can follow these steps to assign a letter to the external drive and check if that helps.

1 - click on 'Start' button.

2-right-click on "Computer" in the list that appears.

Option 3 - Select the 'manage '. If a warning appears asking for your permission to continue, click on the OK"" button.

4 - Choose "Disk management" in the left column of the computer management window. Find the USB in the list that appears in the gray bottom of the center column.

5-click right on the part of the screen that represents the USB key, and then click the option "letter of change of road and railways.

6 button - click on the 'change' in the window that opens.

    7. ensure that the radio button to "assign the following drive letter:" is selected. To the right of the present is a drop-down list with the drive letters currently not assigned to all of the drives on your local system. If you are not on a network, choose the drive letter you want for your USB key and then click on the OK"" button.

8 - click on the 'yes' button in the confirmation box that appears.
