Rename a subfolder

Try to rename a subfolder in LR 5 and get the message 'this (new name) folder could not be renamed or moved. There is a file or a folder with that name. "Should I find this folder in the LR catalog and delete it and rename the current folder?

Also, I changed the name of the subfolder because he would not accept an image that was ahead. I don't know how he disappeared and it reimported. With the new name, he agreed adding, but stopped me to return to the original, more appropriate name.

Help would be greatly appreciated.

In the Finder, I found the folder that had the name that prevent me from using it. I moved it to the trash, and everything is hunky-dory. I thank all those who tried to help me.

    Hello

First of all, to eliminate the possibility of inheriting a PC with any questions, I'll always do a new installation of Windows, including the boot partition formatting and rewriting the MBR. That might actually get rid of the Abe in any case.

Second, if you do not want to go this route, I just use control panel - users to create a new user, Nathan (as an administrative user) and then log in as this user and remove the user from the EBA, including its records.

    Hello

I use Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and I am ecountering a very weird problem.

I have a folder on my desktop that I created, called "My Travel Shots" that contains several folders inside.  These subfolders in "My travel plans" contains .jpg files.

I can rename or remove these subfolders and they seem to be renamed or deleted.

HOWEVER! ....  When I use Internet Explorer and I'm on a site where I can download my photos... I meet a very strange thing!

When I use Internet Explorer to access my desktop folder to select the photos I want to upload, I see all my deleted subfolders. I also see subfolders with their former names, and subfolders that have new names.

Today for example I renamed a subfolder "Italy01" in "Italy June 2010".»

When I was on a Web site where I was going to download my photos... I used Internet Explorer to access "My travel plans" where I could see the 'Italy01' and ' Italy June 2010 "as subfolders, when I really should only be seeing," Italy June 2010 "." "."

It's as if Internet Explorer is to see the folders that are no longer there!  And by clicking on these ghost even records shows the .jpg files inside!

I deleted my files Internet temporary and even sought the "patch" files, but it does not solve the problem.

I've also scanned for viruses, but nothing was found, even in safe mode.

Should I try to rebuild the index?  Or do I have to do a restore to factory of my computer?  BTW, I'm the only person who manages my computer and I run it as administrator.

  • One of the cases registered under disappeared from Outlook Express mail.

Original title: Outlook Express on XP system.

I use Outlook Express on WIN XP system. Recently, one of several under "Saved" mail disappeared (accidentally deleted?) in the list on OE6 files. I checked my HD with Win Explorer and the missing subfolder is always there in C/Doc & Settings/name/Local Settings/object data/identities / {32-char ID} I checked the properties and parameters are the same as all other subfolders and are not hidden.

I tried to import the files using OE6 (file/import / Messages etc) but I get an error message that it cannot access the files because they are either empty (they aren't) or another program is using. The only program that I control which is open is OE6 himself. Although I suspect my part pilot error, I also tried to rename the subfolder on the HD but that did not work.

Another piece of info is that the missing subfolder has both a ".dbx" and a ".bak" hard disk file. It is the only of the subfolders have a file '.bak '. I also have a backup to a flash drive, but he is 6 weeks old and I had a lot of restoration rather the copy on the hard drive because it is updated

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you

Check first that the missing folder is not in deleted items or a subfolder od another folder.

If no joy, create a new folder named saved. Open this folder and then close OE. Drag the folder of the message store. Close and open Windows Explorer and folder reglisser in. Close the record store and open OE.

  • Absence of music on external memory folder?

I recently filled the internal memory of my rocket, then found some more music than I wanted on it, so decided to put it on my 'external memory', I saw the records:

    AUDIO BOOKS

    MSC

    Photo

    PODCASTS

    video

(I think they were created when I formatted it... before the last update of the firmware, I filled the internal memory, and all ended up corrupted, so I reformatted it and more, taking care to leave space on the internal and external memory)

.. .but not music folder.  In the past, I tried to create a "music folder" at the root of the external memory, but the "rocket" ends by renaming "New folder" or something like that, then the screws upward the name of what either inside (not the MP3 tags, just the names as they appear in Windows XP).

So last night, I tried to copy the music into the folder 'MASTER '.  I created a parent folder ('Camel'... the name of groups), then inside that I copied the album:

"1975 of the snow GOOSE [remastered 2002].

... However, when I watched tonight, he renamed this subfolder to the enigmatic:

D50F0000_1975 - the [Remas snow GOOSE

(with the last letters little cut).  What I am doing wrong? The name of the folder was just too long?

I noticed, that he did the same to an audio book on what I copied:

"E10E0000_4. So Long and thanks for al.

(as opposed to what has been copied: "4 So Long and thanks for all the fish")

... I can understand if the names were too long (in fact, I'm experimenting now with shorter names)... but why no folder "music"?  And also (and it is to be really * beep *, I know) why they mix UPPERCASE and lowercase folders when formatting?  The internal memory records labels correctly.

First off - thank you all!

Conversion box - Yes, in fact that's where I created my folder 'artist', inside which I copied the album (there is no subfolder in MSC)

So, I went from USB 'Auto' mode to 'MSC' then plugged the drive.  It appears as two disks (before it was a) and the latest of the two was a unique 'music' folder inside WHICH were "Audiobooks", "podcasts", etc... back to the root only resulted in a second set recreated inside the MUSIC.

Another thing... I can now, see more music on the internal memory when I had the "Auto detect" USB setting   "Auto detect" fails to PSG?  I use Windows Media Player to rip, then copy them using Windows Explorer (as I would a USB key).  My concern is now - are there two sizes on this (older in the PSG and the latest in MSC)?

    Thanks again

Auto mode looks for a first, if PSG Exchange Protocol is not it, it looks like an exchange of UMS (MSC in SanDisk jargon). On most Windows PCs, it means that he connects with MTP mode.

When connected in MSC mode, each area of memory (internal, uSD) looks like a device separated from UMS to the host PC. So in Windows, each receives a drive letter.

Substance transferred by PSG to internal memory are invisible by a host PC connected in MSC mode and vice versa.

Stuff about the dollar can be seen in both modes, but the appearent folder structure is different in MTP mode. The structure of MSC-reported is the actual structure (i.e., the FAT file system hierarchy). In MSC mode, host PC operating system deals directly with FAT filesystem on the map. What you saw in MTP mode is how the "rocket" chooses to account for the actual structure of fat.

  • __File names are larger than is supported by the file system

I tried to upgrade from Vista to 7, but the upgrade attempted to restore Vista.  To exit a loop of reboot, I started from the drive of W7 upgrade went to the command prompt and found a folder with subfolders 25.  After moving them to another directory, I was able to get the roll to Vista is complete.  I tried to delete the record with 25 subfolders.  But I get the error message "the folder contains items whose names are too long for the trash.  and "the names of source files are larger than is supported by the file system.  Try to move to a location that has a shorter path name, or try renaming to shorter name (s) before launching the operation".  I tried shift-delete to bypass the Recycle Bin, but it does not work.  I tried moving and able to copy to a different folder after what I was able to remove the old records but could not delete the new folder.  Now, for some reason any I can rename the subfolder name (they were all named "Downloads"), but when I did it it would create several subfolders named "downloads".  So now I have 60-70 subfolders, rather than the original 25.

Does anyone has a suggestion or a program to help me remove the offending folder?  Should I go on my recovery drive and recover Vista of the D: drive on the C: drive?  If this does not work, will it reformat the hard drive?  If I reformat, how to move to Windows 7?  Thanks for any help.

    HII secoch ,

    Thanks for posting your queries.

I hope you have this problems, but this forum is to help everyone, I want something here too, I did too and it really helped.

First thing is you do not need to download all programs for this.

Like, Windows has problems dealing with extra long path/filenames. If the
combination of the names of access road and closer to 255 characters (127 for
Windows 95/98/me) Windows probably not manage it well, if you try to remove or
Rename it (you can create it, but not change it). The first
thing is trying to rename some of the files which lead to the queue
himself. The directory displayed a level of return, and then select Rename the
folder the file is located in. Try a single letter (of course, to keep a record of what
folder you called that so you can reverse the process!). Then, return to the
file and see if Windows then you can rename or remove. Otherwise, go back
yet another folder and rename this one and so on. At some point, you should be
be able to find a series of folder names of reduced length which you can then
Rename the file to a name that is short enough to allow you to recreate then
the original directory tree and still work with the file in question.  In fact, the main goal is to try to make the shortest path of length instead of only the file name and the folder name.

I also hope that this help option.  If this isn't the case, please after return or PIN me.

  • Subfolder and file icons appear "fuzzy" or indistinct and are not accessible by applications. They can be reset?

All my favorite links IE disappeared after an incident of scamware "Windows Vista repair".  The Favorites folder was still intact under users //favorites, but each category subfolder icon and each subordinate link icon seemed blurred or indistinct.  I had to create a new subfolder for each existing Favorites subfolder and manually filled again with the links by clicking on each link in the old subfolder as an 'add to Favorites' IE in the new subfolder.  Now, I find the same thing with my photos.  I noticed that each user //Pictures icon subfolder and each file in the subfolder name icon is blurry, but when I create a new folder it is crispy. I also noticed that each listed fuzzy subfolder is noted as empty when the cursor passes over it even if each contains the original set of photos.  I don't understand how to recreate the photos under new folders.  Is there anyway to reactivate these files other than their opening, renaming and save under a new name?  My Corel Paint Shop does not recognize these subfolders fuzzy or blurry image files.  Any suggestions?

  • Cannot create the subfolder in the documents using right click on - it just hangs...

Hi, I saw another post on this subject, but the answer did not help unfortuantely.  I have a new laptop Lenovo with Windows 8, and when I try to create a new subfolder to save a document in using right click, it hangs for centuries and then finally replaces "resposnding".  It is not compatible 100% that I managed to create new folders, since I've had the laptop.   Same problem when you try to rename a folder - anything that requires a right-click.

Is this a Windows 8 'thing '? Anyone know some stuff to fix?

  • Necessary troubleshooting after you rename the parent folder

Recently, I renamed some files from the month to the 00 month (i.e. from January to January 01) and moved this month RAW files in a subfolder for this shoot.  The bad news is that I forgot to do in Lightroom!  Usually I choose a photo, update its location, and it syncs all the other photos in this folder.  However, something went wrong.  Whenever I try to add a link to the photo, it says the name of the file is different from the one chosen, and I want to continue.  File names have been changed already and just the sub and parent folder.  This means that I have to do each photo one at time and a few hundred to re link. I have tried to right click on the parent folder and select the location of the update folder and file (wants to import photos as if they were never in the catalogue) synchronize any suggestions to fix this?

Adding spaces before the name of the file using Lightroom did indeed cause a space to be present in both the file name as shown in Lightroom and the file name as shown in Windows.

And the problem remains that your file in Lightroom names do not seem to match the names of files in Windows.

  • PSE12 - Organizer - left pane - create a subfolder folder

I'm sorry to ask what is almost certainly a stupid question and I will be embarrassed by the obvious answer, but I can't place it!

In view of the folders in the left pane, I have a long list of files in chronological order and in some cases, records have become the previous folder subfolders. First of all, no doubt it is caused by an errant key depression but I don't know that and secondly how to change a subfolder in a folder "main"?

It must be simple...! ? Greetings to all!

    Dikda (the geriatric fool)

    Hi Michel,.

I'm afraid that the plot thickens, but it is not all bad news.

First of all, your original suggestion (standard drag / move) worked for 2 situations subfolder. However, the change of name of a subfolder failed in your second suggestion and failed, in that following a right-click, the installation of "Rename" was "unavailable" which seemed strange. Closest to the entrance to file, I noticed that when they are turned off, and when I opened the image, it was a lighter yellow than the rest, I discovered that it was now marked as a file missing with the 'question mark '. I don't think that this was the case before, but I missed it. Have now left me with three subfolder 'problems' that are missing files, which is probably why the "Rename" action was not available. These, I should now be able to treat, by re-login or delete if they are of low value.

Closer examination reveals that S0MEHOW my entire file directory list is actually seeding! For example My Documents and my pictures (and the rest of the trash) appear in "libraries" as you would expect in Windows 7, but also under 2 different DIKDA and DIKDA-TOSH user names. As far as I can see so far, the content is identical. I think that in some way I caused this as part of the data transfer between the previous Acer laptop which has become too full (current execution PSE6) for the current Toshiba. Quite how I managed that, I have no idea - what I have to do is now to sort my own mess! I knew I'd embarrass myself... Rule of Geriatrics - OK?

BTW, I assumed that the note "a folder exists already at that time there" was due to the content of the second list of cases had not changed when I was trying the shot?

Thanks again for your help, as a result, I now understand a little more. This is a good idea - first get some cardboard shoe boxes and separator cards and print everything you photograph...!

Best regards and thanks for your patience.

  • How to rename folders on a regular basis?

iMac 4K 32 GB running LR CC by subscription.  Latest version of El Capitan.

I have a hodgepodge of folder names. I've created a unique record for each session in the Finder, but then started allowing LR to create records. Now, my folder name system is all messed up. Problem is I can't rename them by LR.

All my images are in an external drive in a folder named NIKON. Lightroom Import creates a new subfolder in the folder that I nominated for entry. This subfolder is the year, and then it creates a subfolder to the one with the date as 2015-11-07

Records are displayed in LR as in this example: 2015-Nikon/OklahomaCentennialBotanicalGarden the name and the path of the folder in the Finder is Nikon > OklahomaCentennialBotanicalGarden > 2015

This garden has been renamed in TulsaBotanicGarden. I need to rename the folder.  When I right click on this folder in LR named 2015-Nikon/OklahomaCentennialBotanicalGarden, the input renaming area has only '2015' in it. I tried to type the full name like this: 2015 - Nikon/TulsaBotanicGarden.  Now, it appears in the Organizer folder as TulsaBotanicGarden and there is no '2015' in front of him, so it appears at the bottom of my list, rather than with the other shoots of 2015. The attached picture shows the two ways records are listed in the menu Organizer LR. My choice was on the "2015 - NIKON/family" folder and you can see what the area looks like rename the folder when I right click this folder.Screen Shot 2015-11-07 at 5.53.32 PM.jpg

Rename files in LR is somewhere between confusion and irrational. Otherwise, I am an experienced user of LR since V1. Is there a control that displays the folder hierarchy in LR as well as in the Finder?

    Thank you.

Problem is I can't rename them by LR.

I'm curious to know why, as you are!

In my LR Folders pane, I simply right-click on a folder, choose 'Rename', type the new folder name as I want.

Control Panel folder in Lightroom shows records as they exist in the Finder.

Control Panel folder in Lightroom displays only records that contain images that you have "imported".

The name that you have a folder in Lightroom is the same as the name of the folder in the Finder.

Moving folders in the Control Panel folder Lightroom moves also in the Finder. (But never move or rename in Finder!)

The 'Collections' Panel has no relation to the folder structure whatsoever (unless you maybe create collections to import)

An example - I want to change the name of the folder 'My photos photographers' to a new name-"PHOTOGRAPHERS".

So I right click on the folder - and choose "Rename...". »

    Type new name-

And Lightroom displays the new name - just like the Finder (in my case is Windows Explorer)

Note the folder 'GROUP' that appears in the file Explorer, but not in Lightroom-it does contain all the images!

    And -.

If you want to reorganize the structure of your file by moving the files to the appropriate places - do it all in Lightroom. (Slides &)

And you can also change the format of the files in the Control Panel folder by right click on the [+] sign in the file header-

  • Move and rename photos in Lightroom?

    Question in two parts:

    1. After you have imported a few thousand digitized photographs, then added the dates of proper creation and other metadata, I want to rename and organize photos into folders in the same way the import process works.  My import preset renames each file in the form YYYY-MM-DD-nnnnn where nnnnn is a sequence number and where the date is taken from the metadata in the imported file.

When originally, I imported the images scanned in Lightroom, they had no meaning creation dates (01/01/1970) so I do not rename this day here.  Now, I want to rename each image file named "foo.jpg" like YYYY-MM-DD - foo.jpg.

How do I select a large number of files and rename them all according to a rule like that?

    2. my import preset also the imported image files in a folder/subfolder named YYYY/YYYY-MM-DD;  After you rename the files analyzed, supra, I would like to move to the aptly named folder/subfolder.  How can I do?

    If I can't rename/move files in Lightroom, I could

    a. do these manipulations outside of Lightroom... in the Finder, with other tools... but then catalogue Lightroom will not be able to find its image files.

    b. export the images, then import with my preset, but I fear that I would lose the metadata in the process.

    all ideas welcome

Suggestions, there may be better ways!

Q1.  Select one or more images, press F2

If [Date - name of file] shot in the wrong date, create a renaming custom such as [name of the Custom - file name], then type the date under the name of "Custom" in your desired format YYYYMMDD.

Q2. Create folders with required dates (right click on a folder 'Master' YYYY), drag images with the corresponding date on his record.
