replication vSphere vCenter

Hi all

I have a small question about implementing replication on a single vCenter vSphere. The deployment, protection is very good for a virtual computer for now. The thing is when I go to the inbound replication to start a recovery, I first stop my primary VM, then I click on recover. I followed the steps and recovery starts on my VC. But after a few minutes, I got the error "the name"VM name"already exists." It is true, that my primary VM is still there on my VC... But is it possible in the config for the secondary virtual machine with a different name? As I saw config wizzard do not allow me to add another name... How can I handle this correctly?

Thank you very much.

Renaud

The trick is to get the VM replicated to a different "folder" (e.g., overdrawn Machines) that allows to add the virtual machine of the same name.

    Dear,

I have today of 60 days to test my lab environment.

    I'm under 1 vCenter 5.5, 2 X ESXi 5.5 and 2 NAS (FreeNAS and Nas4Free) on NFS.

To be brief, I want to replicate all my (s) VM from NAS1 to NAS2... Using my NAS2 as 'backup '.

But it seems that I am not able to configure replication vSphere with vCenter only... Can you confirm?

I tried to map a bit by installing a second vCenter (device)... Is this a good idea?

    Is it still possible?

    Thx for your advice...

    Thierry

Assuming you are using vCenter Setup, then you need not to connect to your site with another site of target. In one configuration, your site is like - a source and a target for replication.  If you have configured everything properly, you can right click on a virtual machine and configure it for replication pointing to the same site to the target site, but by placing the virtual files in the datastore NAS2 nfs (the one that you want to store your replicated files).

  • unit of replication vSphere does not fit with vCenter

unit of replication vSphere does not fit with vCenter (I don't see vsphere tab replication, configuration of the replication of vSphere even not when right click on a particular virtual machine.)

Only warning I received during the process of deployment has been warning that it will bind with vCenter vService Extension.

I registered in vCenter, even restarted vCenter, still nothing...

Another weird symptom, it's that when I browse the web client vCenter Server Extensions - may not load at all (a circle going round in circles without effect what so ever)-same thing when I try to navigate vApps...

I tried to cancel registration of vRA vCenter from configuration vRA website, but he told me "Management Extension error: org.apache.http.NoHttpResponseException: the target server has not responded'.»»

Also the 'VRM service is stopped,' I can read on the bottom of the Setup page (leave it only result in a temporary 'on the road' and 'arrested' status).

This unit of replication vSphere vSphere Client watch is present (with dependency: Extension Installation vCenter) in vService Manager in vCenter Solutions Manager tab.

It works when saw vcenter and vRM on the same subnet. Maybe my router/firewall is buggy, too bad. To drop the case.

  • question of replication vSphere

is it possible by means of keeping 24hrs rpo, then to 7 copies of virtual machines for the last 7 days of backup.

I tried, but it gives only the option to restore a virtual machine that is 24 hours old.

    any possibility?

Yes, vSphere replication is capable enough to work, there is no such requirement to SRM. and JEREMIAH is also a feature built-in replication vSphere and certainly free of SRM. Just that you have to configure replication for a virtual computer by using the web client.

JEREMIAH is all about keeping a set number of snapshots on site of recovery for the virtual machine, so that after the success of the recovery of this virtual machine, you can go in the Snapshot Manager and return to one of these snapshots. Please note that during recovery of the virtual machine, it will not ask you instant witch you want to recover to, it's just going to get VM in its last State, then you must go to the Snapshot Manager to see these snapshots are preserved.

  • Configure replication vSphere fails - there is a virtual machine that has the same UUID instance than the one you are trying to configure

    Hi all

My colleague was trying to extend a hard disk of a server 2008R2 who (1) had a snapshot and (2) was being replicated. The operation has failed and they took the snapshot replication can be stopped. Long story short when I got to him, the server could not be configured for replication and could not extend the disk and a vMotion failed.

Looking at the files of the VM on the data store and the VMs .vmx file we have all the characteristics of a virtual machine always configured for replication of vSphere. If you try to configure replication vSphere causes an instant error "vsphere replication does not support change the length of a replicated disk. After a few changes I can reconfigure vSphere new replication, however, when the wizard has finished, I get a new error message (see below):

"Try to set up vSphere that replication has failed for the VM"name vm"during the creation of groups"vm". There is a virtual "vm-name" machine that has the same instance UUID ' UUID of the Virtual Machine "that you want to configure. The existing vSphere of replication is configured for site protection.

A possible solution would be to reset the database embedded VRMS our DR as suggested here VR configure replication after losing a VC site server but I was wondering if there is another solution? I have not reset the database of VRM before and cannot find a document that tells exactly what to do. I guess I need to stop all the rehearsals before resetting the database?

    See you soon,.

    Dean

    Hello

There is no need to reset the VRMS database.

If you know the value GID... an orphan replication, you can use the CROWD VRMS (https://vrms_address:8043/mob/?moid=GID-...&vmodl=1) to call the destroy method - it is eliminating simple replication to the site of the source or the target.

If you don't know the GID... value, it can be found of VRMS DB or log files. Please file an SR for assistance.

This procedure is already documented in internal KB articles and help using VMware support:

KB article internal 2056086, section "cannot replicate virtual machine as there is another virtual machine with the same UUID instance"

and also internal KB article 2060751.

The admin guide section will be updated as it is confusing right now by suggesting only to reset the DB.

    Kind regards

    Martin

  • Support for multiple instances of vSphere vCenter

I installed the demo of (construction 4.4.0 - EE #1509 - July 28, 2010 - Release Build) Hyperic 4.4 company Web site to test the support of monitoring VMware vSphere 4.0.

I have installed an agent Win32 on W2003 server which hosts the 4.0U2 of vSphere vCenter server and configured it. Once resources have been configured, I edited the VMware vCenter resource to add a user/password valid and after a short while the ESXi host servers and virtual machines appeared in the vSphere browse/HQ screen. Everything works well.

I then tried to add a different vCenter server with its own ESXi host servers (with a new agent installed on W2003 this server) and that's where the problem starts. After that I added the name of user and password in the detail of the vCenter inventory, new ESXi and VM guests begin to appear under "recently added". When I go to the screen of vSphere browse/HQ original vCenter disappeared and a mixture of the other vCenter servers host and its own host servers appear under the vCenter newly added.

I would be able to monitor the 2 different vCenter servers?

Multiple vcenter instances are supported.  When you configure the resource, be sure to use the IP address of the box instead of the default loop address.  When HQ sees multiple vcenters air-conditioned and come with 127.0.0.1 in the URL of SDK, it blends.  Configuring IP should solve the problem you are experiencing.

  • How to make backups without vSphere/vCenter

We are one of the companies at low prices that only use ESX, cannot get them to buy me vSphere/vCenter again.

Not much, we have only 8 physical hosts, so I can manage it with the vSphere Client a host at a time.

Is there a smart way to make level vm backups in my situation?  I can export OVFs manually, or copy the files from the virtual machine to a store in offline mode, but these two need to cull the virtual machine. (you cannot copy or move a machine virtual everything in its place)

Is there a way (with vCLI or powerCLI) to maybe make a snapshot, move the snapshot offline, and then delete the original... or something like that?

I'm really just looking for a smart way to make level vm backups that don't require bringning to the bottom of the virtual machine, and that perhaps I could automate with a script so its more of a real-time continuous data protection.

Already did you look in the scripts of lamw ghettoVCB?

vSphere vCenter - vCenter 4.0 Update 1 resolution VM issues slow because the disk i/o latency?

My client is slow VM problems that appear to be disk I/O latency on Hitachi storage 1000. I heard in VMware meetings vCenter 4.0 Update 1 solves these problems... without any explanation as to why.

Rumor is that "after working all the angles of the slowness of the virtual machine including vmtools hardware version, latency of storage, etc. called VMware support and advised to get vCenter to U1 to solve the 'known problem' VM performance issues." "U1 fact and problem solved.

It is VMware User meeting and I have no other details.

Customer did not of U1 and having problems of slowness VM believes may be due to the assets/Hitachi 1000 s and favorite paths questions (known to cause problems). Preferred fixed pathing but questions continue.

My limited participation in the issue of troubleshooting in the date limit information available now. It is just an issue if 'known problem' exists and is known to be resolved via U1 vCenter or ESX 4.0 U1?

Not vCenter 4.0 Update 1 solve disk i/o latency issues considered the slow pace of the vm? Why?

  • What management software is free with ESXi 4.0?  (re: vSphere, vCenter, etc.)

I'm new and VMware ESXi, but I'm learning and I'd like to better understand the different management products available.

I installed the free ESXi 4.0, so what software is available?  (free)

    (1) I can't download "vSphere Client" directly from my ESXi host.  Is this different than 'vSphere' from the VMware Web site?

    (2) what is the difference between vSphere and vSphere Remote Command Line Client?

    (3) I have free access to vSphere vCenter?  This is only used to manage multiple ESXi hosts at the same time?

    Thanks much for any help!

One of the most interesting free tools from VMware is in my view VMware vSphere PowerCLI.

vSphere 4 is a suite of products. vSphere client is a product of this suite.

The host update is a utility that allows you to upgrade a vSphere (ESX or ESXi server) from one version to the other host. You don't need this if you start with the last update of the ESXi 4.0 version 2.

  • VI3 environment with vSphere vCenter management?

I could manage my VI3 environment with vSphere vCenter?

I could add a Cluster VI3 to vSphere vCenter?

Hi, Yes, you can, but you must install a license server and configure it with the .lic file to manage the licenses for ESX3.5

Then, in Vcenter, go to Vcenter server settings, licenses and configure the license server location.
