Request an activation code for Windows due to hardware changes, but nothing has changed. What is going on?

My computer is request an activation code for Windows due to hardware changes but nothing has changed.  What is going on?  This morning firefox did not and went into the Task Manager to see which processes were underway, then he closed the Explorer.  I think I clicked on it by mistake.  Then turn on now that I get this message.

Go ahead and try to activate it? (copy is authentic, came on the computer already installed)

Hi JaneMcDonald,

Yes, you can go ahead and activate Windows XP, as it could be a possibility that the software license file may have been changed due to some changes.

Sometimes to restart Explorer, you can get out of this situation.  When you arrive at the blank screen, press Ctrl - Alt - Delete if all goes well a window will appear that allows you to choose 'Task Manager '.  Click on the Task Manager and when it starts, click on the "Processes" tab and then select the file-> new task.  When that window comes to the top, enter "Explorer" in the box, and then click 'OK '.  I hope that your screen will then fill.

I run XP for backward compatibility for several reasons. I'm not worried for themselves are more updates of security that the computer will be off line only. However, if I need to reinstall for some reason any, like a disk crash, I always call and receive custom code that validates my installation?

I bought win 7 starter edition PC oem, I miss my lic key

If Windows 7 is preinstalled by the PC manufacturer then that it will be already activated it.  Go to Control Panel, System - the row above the product ID should give you the activation status - what does say here?

You should make a note of the product key - that is the key that you enter if you need to re - activate for some reason any.  The product key is on the certificate of authenticity [CoA].  The CoA label will be on the lower part of the PC or hidden in the battery compartment.  The COA will also indicate the edition of Windows 7 product key apply to the - in your case, it will say Windows 7 Starter [it could also have "OA" after the name, but that is not significant].

Hi, I graduated from high school last year, and since that time, I received my free copy of the laptop. But I forgot the code of online activation, then I used comes from this laptop again. He asked me my activation code but I've forgotten how to get it. And am I still be able to get the code again? as it has been a year already

One way is to contact your school and ask HIM to Ministry or Department that give you the license to send it to you or visit the DreamSpark site which is the portal for software for students and search for your school, try:

    https://www.DreamSpark.com/student/default.aspx

And open the DreamSpark site and try to connect with your student account.

  • They guided me through a restore and system recovery, but doesn't not eventually give me the activation code for my windows when finished.

I had a problem with my window 7 do not allow me to do live updates. Supprt Tech guided me through the steps necessary when requiring eventually get a difficult access remotely guided. The tech assured me that since I don't have the activation code for my Windows 7 ultimate that it provide me on. That I would be prompted to enter one after recovery and the restoration was complete.

I wonder if I'll be able to get this code now?

Also, I lost all text documents I had written and recorded? We did a flash drive recovery I've used but I am unable to locate my document.

    Thanks for any help.

System Restore does not destroy documents, but a recovery will depend on what has been done.

If the remote technician entered the product key, so he could be there.

In the case of a computer from a major manufacturer contact them via their web site.  Many have recovery media low cost for just the situation you encounter.  Also they can cause (however unlikely) a new product key to replace the one that has rubbed off.  If all else fails see also: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;en-us;326246
  • New activation code for Vista?

So I went from XP to Vista with upgrade license.  Unfortunately, I had trouble getting through my existing windows installation and installed the software from the disc.

Because it is a clean install, my Vista activation code does not work.  Very well, I went online to try to buy a new activation code.  Need me just to the home page of Windows 8.  I followed the instructions on the search for the phone line automated to reflect activation that might work.  There is no such thing; the options are to activate online or activate any.
If my computer stops working after 30 days because I can't get a new activation code for my existing, legitimate product, I think I'll have to join the ranks of those who have learned to install an illegal copy of Windows.

No need to buy a new license.

Your problem is that you try to use a license upgrade with a clean install.
No worries, there is a solution.
    1. click on [start], type "regedit" and press ENTER.
    2. navigate to the following registry key.
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Setup/OOBE /.
    3. double-click on MediaBootInstall, change the value from 1 to 0.
    4. close regedit.
    5. open an elevated command prompt.
(See "How to run a command with elevated privileges?")
    6. run the following command.
    slmgr /rearm
    7 reset.
    8. try to activate your Vista again.
  • Code product key? had reboot my computer and I need a code for Windows Vista from the bottom of my laptop

Hi, I'm having a problem with my laptop. I bought my laptop online, a year ago, and I got a virus. Then, I had my computer reset and I need a code for Windows Vista from the bottom of my laptop. After looking through records and information, we found that he had no number. He worked initially but then recently he was asked for a product key or something of the sort code. I was using my laptop but I cannot customise my background etc.

    Can you help me?

    Thank you very much

The code is located on a label and is a 25-digit alpha-numeric (and very hard to read) code separated into 5 groups of 5 numbers separated by dashes.  If you can't find it on the bottom of your laptop, open the battery housing and remove the battery and look there - I know of cases where this is where it was placed.

If you can't find the product key, your only choice is to contact the manufacturer and see if they can help.  Sometimes the relocations made with recovery disks don't need to be activated (depends on the manufacturer and their recovery process must ask them and confirm before you spend money on the recovery discs).  A valid product key is required for activation if activation is required - there is no way around this problem.  And in case you are considering on it, you can't switch from one product not enabled - you need to do a clean and complete installation (update disc will not work).

I hope this helps and that the manufacturer can help you.

    Good luck!

    Hello djplexus

First, you will need to understand how to set up the dual boot. This will allow you to be able to choose between XP and 7 at startup.
With regard to the creation of an image of Windows XP Backup there is no Windows XP software that will do it for you. You will need to look to third-party vendors for support with this issue. Thank you.
