  You say that when you press the NUM LOCK key, the Numlock State does not change (if enabled to disabled and vice versa)?  Have you tried to unplug the keyboard and by ensuring that the keyboard of the laptop does not have enabled Numlock?  If so, turn it off on the laptop keyboard and reinsert the another keyboard and see if the problem is resolved.

  I thought it was a simple problem to solve, but unfortunately it has escaped me. I had to reload a Satellite A40 with the American version of WinXP Pro Corp. Laptop was purchased in Germany. The keyboard is physically different than typical laptops, used here (pressing the button gives you a Z, for example).   In your example, you must come with an update rate that works for the two waveforms (sine waves of 1 and 1.5 KHz). To get a good representation of a sine wave, you need to update more than 10 x faster than your fastest frequency... I would recommend x 100 if possible.
