RMAN license
Hello
I have read many topics on RMAN and license.
I also read this:
Databases of repository infrastructure
An Oracle database
can be installed and used as repository without Recovery Manager (RMAN)
conditions of licence, provided that all the managed Oracle databases
in this repository are properly authorized. The repository database can also be
used for the Oracle Grid Control Enterprise repository. It cannot be used or
deployed for other uses.
An Oracle database
can be installed and used as an Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control (OEM
Repository of grid control) without additional license terms, provided that
all the targets (databases, applications, etc.) managed in this
repository are properly licensed. This database can also be used for the RMAN
repository. It cannot be used or deployed for other uses.
But I don't understand what you mean with the phrase "without additional license.
If I intend to create a server with a single EA 11.2 database for the catalog,
I buy the EE need license?

It means exactly what it says. If the database is used only as a rman and/or a repository of GC, it does not require a license. The reference to the "additional license" means "in addition to the license covering the non-referentiel databases.

Hello
license to pay for RMAN catalog db?
Thank youWithout a doubt. If you have multiple databases in your env, you can pass through targets and data bases. Say, if you have four databases, A, B, C & D, you can create catalogs in A and C and C & D grid in a catalog and a & B to C catalogue. If you have only a database in the environment, I just do not use catalog.

RMAN backup Compression algorithms?
Hi Experts,
Please help me, I'm a little confused here.
1. which algorithm of Compression in RMAN needs license of Advanced Compression in the list below?
- BASIC
- LOW
- MEDIUM
- HIGH
2. I'm under the impression that you don't need Advanced Compression license if you use BASIC ALGORITHM of COMPRESSION, but I could be wrong please advise.
Kind regards
ZKM
Basic compression is not license required...
http://docs.Oracle.com/database/121/BRADV/rcmconfa.htm#CHDEHCEB
Supported Compression levels
Oracle database provides two types of compression algorithms: a default compression algorithm and a group of algorithms of compression available with Oracle Advanced Compression option. The default algorithm is a standard Oracle database feature, while Oracle Advanced Compression option is sold separately.
Default compression
You can configure the default compression algorithm, which does not require Oracle Advanced Compression option.

In the GC 11g OEM version, the document for approval allowed installation of an Oracle database free of charge as long as the installer had a licensed product of target (such as the Oracle database) for OEM GC. I read the license OEM Cloud control 12 c document and I do not see this language. Is anyone aware of the question whether the database repository (oracle database) for OEM CC 12 c can be installed free of charge? If Yes, then what database are allowed 1) Single Instance 2) RAC 3) 1 node RAC?
Thank you.See the section 'restricted use of Enterprise Manager license' to http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E24628_01/license.121/e24474/ch1_introduction.htm#CJADBDCI.
The text is clearer (to me) than previous versions and specifically answer your second question:
"Options of additional database or additional servers for the resumption of activity require a separate authorisation. Customers receive a single instance of data base with the control of cloud repository or RMAN. To protect the repository with Data Guard, customers need to purchase a license for the backup site. To protect the deposit with Oracle Real Application Clusters, customers must concede the second node of the database, and both nodes require a license of Oracle Real Application Clusters. »
I had not noticed the improved verbiage. Thank you, Oracle!

Hello
I wanted to just make sure that my interpretation (listed below) regarding the encryption of RMAN backup is correct.
1) the two encryption Transparent encryption and password crypt for backups. The only difference is that the encryption key to encrypt/decrypt the backup while portfolio uses Transparent password encryption uses the password provided during the RMAN session to encrypt/decrypt the backups. Bottom line is that the backup is encrypted in both cases.
(2) we must have a license from ASO (Advanced Security Option) to use the above encryption methodologies.
Thanks for your time.Hello
(1) is correct
(2) encrypted backups on disk is in need of Advanced Security Option. To create backups directly to tape, license Oracle Secure Backup is required. You can find more details in the documentation: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/backup.112/e10642/rcmconfa.htm#CHDEDDBE

How do I move backups rman to disc faucet
Hello
I rman backup files on the disc, now how we can move these files to the faucet. is there an rman command or y at - it script to move.
Thank you!Hi 899329,
Depending on your configuration, some you may have different options.
If you do not purchase licenses and do not have a library of special safeguard for rman your option is to ask your administrator to backup to make a backup of your OS rman backups.
If you (or your system administrators) have installed a library (MML) media for rman and license management, that can make the tape of rman backup. The posts above show some examples already.

Hello
so I read the entire document 'Oracle® Enterprise Manager Licensing Information 12 c Release 1 (12,1) part number E24474-06' (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E24628_01/license.121/e24474.pdf), and yet I don't know if we can use Enterprise Manager Cloud control in our environment without purchasing additional licenses.
In detail, we have several Oracle databases, some with Standard One, a standard, some with license of the company, some EE databases have also packs and additional options, others without options or packs under license. Cloud control would be a single instance without advanced options or packs installation.
Among others, I read the following things in the documentation:
-Enterprise Manager includes license restricted use of the Oracle database as the Oracle Management repository only.
-For each target listed, you can enable or disable management packs associated with the target.
and
-L'Enterprise Manager Cloud control 12 c basic installation includes several free features with the purchase of any Oracle software license or a Support contract.
Now my questions are:
1. from what I understand, it is, when I own a license of Oracle software, I have also a license to install and use Oracle® Enterprise Manager Cloud Control and I can use this facility to administer all targets, as long as the target that I have managed has a proper license, regardless of who is the owner of the license of the target (we have not the license of some targets)?
2. I have an older version documentation I read that I can use an Oracle as the Enterprise Manager repository database and RMAN catalog, but I can not find it in the current literature, is still valid that the license to repo EM and RMAN catalog is free?
3. I intend to use the EM and to not buy a license, so where can I find some overall valid information without asking someone who is specialized in licenses for sale ? Why it is not covered in detail in the actual documentation?
Best regards, Gerrit

Because it is a LEGAL issue, not a review of the LITERATURE.

B. when we install the Netbackup software, what happens internally? How he active binary RMAN to "talk."

A. as far as I understand, Netbackup is just a middleware between binary RMAN and a tape drive.
Can we use Netbackup as an intermediary with any brand of tape drive (IBM, HP, EMC,...)?No matter what brand of tape drive is which can make the OS backups can also be used for rman backups.
B. when we install the Netbackup software, what happens internally? How he active binary RMAN to "talk."
on the tape? For normal backups of OS install you client software that acts as an intermediary between the source server and the backup server (tape robot).
For rman, you need to install a library additional netbackup client (+ license) you need to make a link to the oracle ($OH/lib/libobk.so) software.
In the rman backup script, you will need to open the channels of the band instead of drive channels.
If everything is correctly configured and licensed rman can only "talk" on the band.

Is the license needed to hit the backups on tapes?
Hi all
Our Organization is planning to have Oracle implemented in our business processes, and we plan to have RMAN to hit backups.
Our application server, Oracle database and applications are allowed. As you know there are 2 ways to hit the tape via the Oracle secure backup backup and media management layer, I wanted to know because we have the "HP DL380 G6" server can we use the media management layer to hit backups on tapes and do we need licenses for it.
I think that we need secure backup licensing Oracle, but my question is what is the case in the media management layer.
best regards,A.R.M Asif wrote:
Thanks for the quick reply Rajest...Most welcome :)
Will the procedure mentioned below if management limited in case out for a third-party media management layer (most likely they used), but as an alternative will be the following:
1 perform RMAN backups on record (as backupset).
2. take these backups copied to RMAN through OS command.
3. copy backups on disk to a tape if the tape backups are necessary if the backups on disk are not available.
4. run the RMAN catalog command to detect the backup
5 restore and recover the databaseYes it will work...

RMAN and repositories on the same database grid control
What are the disadvantages of having the RMAN Repository and repository on the same database grid control?
What effect does this have
1. daily maintenance
2. after disaster or high availability... or the recovery scenarios.
3 is server performance with respect to the use of the CPU and memory - not desirable to have two repositories on the same database?
Currently we have not a RMAN or a repository of GC. We intend to implement both. Angle of savings, it would be good if we can just build another data base for two repositories on an existing database server with 2 production databases. The server has enough CPU and RAM face for 1 new database, but that would mean an exaggeration to have 2 new databases.
If it is not advisable to have two repositories on the same database, then we would need strictly two separate databases, in this case, we will need to go to a new database server host two databases, which the org seeks to avoid, as this would mean that to buy a new license.
I tried searching a few books, but don't have no clear guidance on the same. Any opionion would really help. Thank you.

S dialloWhere this instance fails, all rman needs to restore is in the database control file. How to restore a database with rman from the command line, without a catalog. (The backup and Recovery Guide has details of how do.) This will get data back so that you can use the grid again control.
In order to insure against a default of the machine hosting the instance, verify that the database is in log mode archive and protected with scheduled backups of hot and copy the backup files to another server.
Other options for high availability, you have a license (Data Guard, RAC) could also be deployed for this instance, if you need more recovery options.

Published by: ARKH 12 December 2008 23:06This is because as soon as you open the standby database, application of roll forward stops. At least that's true up to 10 gr 2, 11 g, you have the option "Active Dataguard" (requires an additional license), which allows to apply, while the database is open.

License expired Message Server
After starting MAC OS Server 5.2 websites and create a new Web site (actually a mirror of an existing site of very simple server implementation) I open Safari and try the URL and I get the message:
Please ask your server administrator to install the license.
If you are the administrator, please connect to the administration.
The Web site service is set to point to the static IP address of my Mac - Pro running MAC OS Server. All files are in place. If I use https://aaa-macpro.local/default , I see the default Web site.
But if I try to arroyohome.com which is the URL of my Web site which is set to point to the static address of the Mac - Pro MAX OS Server operation you get this server license expired Message. I do not use certificates at this stage
The problem is resolved. I uninstalled MAC OS Server and started from scratch. After making sure that I was the only person in my network and also by ensuring that the server created a DNS entry for my server, I made the tutorial on websites (Lesson 1) and tested that the default Web sites are created correctly and that everything started working.
BTW, the server license expiration message was / is incorrect. Browsers were all complaining about certificates and refusing to accept the ones I created. Expired "500 Server license" error is a catch-all message. The site that I am hosting is not encrypted, but MAC OS Server encrypts the default Web site on port 80, which may () caused a lot of questions because I was deploy my site. On lesson 2
Step 7. Check the redirection to the secure site
I disabled this function for my deployed site...
