• Firefox won't be the default browser for a user and pins himself to the taskbar

  Search on Google, I have a suspicion that pinning occurs when the default configuration of Firefox. I also have a suspicion that something is wrong with the default for HTTP as it does not exist as a protocol to control custom Programs\Set Associations

  I have it solved!

  The command "Firefox.exe - silent - setDefaultBrowser" seems to have restored the HTTP protocol in control custom Programs\Set Associations.

  Firefox is designated as my default browser. When I go to Options/advanced/system default Options in Firefox, "Always check to see if Firefox is the default browser on startup" is checked. When I click on the button "Check now", he confirms that "Firefox is already set as the default browser". Yet, if Firefox is not running, and I click on a Web link in an e-mail message, Firefox starts, but warns me that Firefox is not my default browser!   May be connected (who knows?): when I click on a link on a Web page to download a file (perhaps the latest version of Firefox), the Save dialog box that appears almost always displays the name of the file without the extension. For example, I tried just to download the installer of Firefox. Rather than display the name as Firefox Setup 13.0.1.exe, it displays Firefox Setup 13.0.1. The file type is listed as "binary". Every once in a while (maybe one in ten trials), if I leave then relaunch Firefox, immediately return to the download page and click again on the link of the file, the file name and the file type will be displayed correctly. Almost always, I have to resort to using some other browser to download the file.

  I tried to clear the cache of the browser; Firefox reset of the about: support page; install a new copy by downloading the installer from the Mozilla site. None of that helped him.

  You can try to redo the default browser and temporarily set another browser as your default browser.

  Close all Web browsers

  • go to control panel-> Internet Options-> programs-> tab uncheck tell me if Internet Explorer is not the default browser -> click OK

  Launch Firefox

  Safari doesn't let me set it as default browser in el capitan in the Preferences menu. There used to be a button to set it as the default value which is not three more in el capitan osx.

  System Preferences > general > default web browser:
