Satellite 1700-200: how to upgrade the RAM

I have an old laptop that Toshiba Satellite 1700-200, with the warranty has expired. Now, I need increase ram (only the wealthy 64 MB, not enough to properly run an installation of Windows XP or a Linux distribution real), and I don't know how to do this. I searched in google several times but I can't find a tutorial for this version. Anyone know how I can do?

Thanks much ;)

Hello

I m not 100% sure, but I think the locations of memory could be placed either at the bottom of the device or hidden under the keyboard!

    Hi kichenin

Until you buy new RAM modules, you should check out what specifications you need and how much memory is taken in charge.

I checked the specs on the Web from Toshiba site and your laptop supports up to 1 GB of RAM. The specification for the RAM is PC2100 DDR - RAM. You can also buy some RAM with higher specifications (PC2700 or PC3200), but they will operate at the speed of the PC2100.

Recommend brand for Kingston memory for example.

I have the standard 512 MB installed at the moment and when I open the back I have only a slot for expansion. Should I put a 2 GB upgrade in this slot I can not find a 1.5 GB upgrade or is it possible to delete the original 512 and replace with2 x 1 or 1 x 2 GB.

    Hi mate

    What boarder said is right.
The user manual provides information on the possible RAM upgrade and there is also an instruction how to put the RAM in the slots.
Usually it s not difficult and can be done very quickly.

    View just the words to the subject of the upgrade of RAM max;
It's material and limited to Intel chipset limitation.
If you want to know how much RAM is possible then check your type of chipset and visit Intel for chipset details.
In the datasheet, you can find the specifications of the chipset.

  • Satellite 2800-600 - how to upgrade the Bios/Firmware?

How can I upgrade the Bios and firmware on my 2800-600? I want to install a new Combodrive. Which drives are supported? Where can I find the drivers and firmware etc... Please let me know. Thank you.

Another point of view - I bought MS Windows XP Pro and haven´t you have a PC to install it on. Can I install this OS on my Satellite? Will it work? Where can I find the drivers for touchpoint etc etc... Normally, the Toshiba works with Windows ME and I can not use ITunes on ME... if XP would be great - what do you think?

    Hello Jürgen

In my opinion, if you install the operating system on the unit you you use the recovery CD provided because it has been tested and it works without any problem. But if you want to install another system on your laptop, you can use the original Microsoft OS and all the necessary drivers, you can find the Toshiba site.

  • Satellite A100-386 - how to upgrade the BIOS?

    Hello

I wanted just to update my old Satellite A100-386 with 4 GB of RAM (2x2gb Crucial) instead of 1 GB, as I am now running Windows7 Pro 64 bit instead of the original XP 32.

I read that I had to upgrade the BIOS as mine is v2.00. So, I downloaded the last of them.
It seems to be an automatic upgrade of BIOS (S10V600.exe) as mentioned on the site Web of Toshiba.
But when hit the .exe, I have a box of error message saying:
"LOADPEDRV. "EXE: could not start the service.

My question is: do I have to be 32-bit OS to run the upgrade of the automatic BIOS or is it possible to Flash the BIOS with a Windows7 64 bit OS run?

Thanks a lot for all answer as I found no 'how to' in search on this forum.

    Best regards
    François

    Hi FPSim,

Who said that you need to update the BIOS to upgrade RAM? The maximum RAM capacity depends on the motherboard and chipset and not BIOS.

Official website of Toshiba, I have seen that the model supports 4 GB of RAM so the BIOS update is not necessary. Increase the RAM and everything is ok.

  • Satellite L300 PSLB8E - how to increase the ram clock speed

I have a laptop which is equipped with 2 slots for ram PC2-6400
    1 - Samsung module M4 70T5663QZ3-CF7 [800 MHz] 2GB
    2 - Samsung module M4 70T2864QZ3-CF7 [800 MHz] 1 GB
    GPU: Intel GM45
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T5870 Mobile @ 2000 MHz
According to the manufacturer, this kit allows you to work with the 667/800 MHz memory speed, but the problem is that reference programs show the actual frequency of the ram at 399 MHz.

    Question No. 1:
    (a) why not clock the memory works in 800 MHz but only 399 MHz,
    (b) how to change to a 800 MHz

    Question No. 2:
I'm going to buy a processor
    Penryn Core 2 Duo T9600 processor (1066 MHz FSB) (2.80 G) Hz or T9400 (2.53 G)
and install it in the computer
and increase the memory of 2 x 4 GB 800 MHz (8 GB)

I explained that this possibility is provided for by the manufacturer according to the Maintenance Manual for:
    Toshiba computer
    Satellite L300/L305
    Satellite Pro L300
    EQUIUM L300
    SATEGO L300
    (PSLB8x/PSLB9x)
    (PSLBAx / PSLBBx)

If this operation will help to improve system performance

I put t know what programs you use and if it is good or not if this info can be good and perhaps not. I put t know. The fact is that you n t have one any influence on the functionality of memory and I doubt that you can do something and change some values.

Exact specification for laptop laptop does not for me but I think that Satellite L300 must have Intel GM45 chipset and I presume that for your motherboard FSB is 667 MHz. You can improve up to 8 GB and compatible 4 GB RAM module has PA3670U-1M4G part number.

Upgrade CPU on Satellite L300? I put t know man. A friend of mine has this model of laptop and I don t know if it's the right decision to spend money to upgrade this old model of laptop budget.

  • Satellite X 200-how to find the configuration of the BIOS for Intel Matrix Storage?

    Hello world

I'm ready to activate the feature Matrix Storage on my Satellite X 200 - 24 X. The problem is that I can't find any relevant option in the BIOS setup...
    Thank you!

    Hello

Intel Storage Manager is a pilot and not an option in the BIOS. The only option you have in the BIOS is the mode of access to the HARD drive. There you can change between AHCI and Compatible.

For AHCI mode which is faster, you need Intel Storage Manager driver. For the Compatible mode, you n t need additional drivers.

Want to know how to install Storage Manager? Just use the forum search, you will find hundreds of results. ;)

  • Satellite C50-B-12Z - to upgrade the RAM up to 8GB

I have Satellite C50-B-12Z, and I want to improve his memory of 8 GB of ram. Crucial memory site says that with my laptop is recommended 8 GB ram 12800, but would be less expensive to put a barrette dimm 4 GB of ram, since my laptop already has 4 GB of ram?

Is it possible to have the problem since the RAM dimm fault its Samsung and I want to install a memory of brand? (all other spec of ram are identical, frequency, voltage, etc.) ?

    Hello

At first some basic on your laptop model info: you are right, it can be upgraded up to 8 GB of RAM. Your laptop has two RAM slots, and according to specification for laptop, there must be a 4 GB so strips you need to do is add the second module of 4 GB.
It is always recommended to use two identical modules.
Original 4 GB of RAM has part number PA5104U-1M4G, so I recommend get you the same.

Problem is that your machine is not supported for upgrading RAM by user and access to the RAM slots is quite complicated. The whole bottom cover needs to be removed and it must be done by the authorized service provider.

If you try to do it yourself you will lose the warranty.
My advice to you is to contact the nearest Toshiba service provider and pick up some info on this.

  • Re: Satellite X 200 - can I upgrade the video card?

    Hello

    I have the X 200 23 G

I wonder I can update my videocard (NVIDIA GeForce 8600 M GT) or change it?

    Thank you.

Hi, unfortunately you are unable to spend not generic parts in a laptop as they are designed.

The only parts you can upgrade are the processor, memory, ODD, and HARD drive. But even in this case, not all components are compatible. For example, if the BIOS cannot recognize the new processor, the system may not start, or it will overheat, or operate at a slower speed.

I found an article on the Toshiba site there explaining more in detail:

  • Satellite M70-151 - how to upgrade the display driver?

    Hello

as the topic says I ran out of options to update my graphics card Radeon X 700 on my laptop...

I tried to see here: http://de.nodevice.com/driver/Mobility_Radeon_X700/get44199.html
After installation, I learned that he had to go on the manufacturer's site to get my drivers

So I ended up here: http://de.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service=DE
Still no idea who was the Radeon X 700 driver, I tried every update... Most did not anyway, and when I check my graphics card driver put in says that my current driver was 5 years old.

Taking advantage of the distraction of the online games I noticed that went it a few seconds sometimes. Most people recommend that you update all my drivers, but it seems more difficult than I imagined

So please, help me find the right link to update my graphics card! To help speed things up a bit, I added my DxDiag report.

    Thanks for your help

/ Edit: addition of the DxDiag total was not possible due to "inappropriate language"... O.o

    Hi Sarahbella,

You can download the driver on the Toshiba site. Therefore, check the link you suggested and look for your model of laptop. As far as I know Satellite M70 151 belongs to the series of PSM71E, to look for with these elements:

    Laptop > Satellite > Satellite M Series > Satellite M70 (PSM71)

Download the driver and run the setup.exe file.

    Check this box!
