Satellite 5200 701 SSD instead of HARD drive

I have a 5200-701 and the HARD drive has a large number of bad sectors. So I would use a SSD instead of the HARD disk on a regular basis. Anyone know who is real and compatible? I also tried to install Vista but after start of the cd, the installation of vista tells me lack driver CD/DVD. I have a TEAC DW -? and vista seems to have problems with loading the atapi driver right?

Do you mean that you want to use the Solid State Drive?

HM, I think you're the first person here who would like to use this drive in this old notebook.
To be honest I don't very well if you can use and if the BIOS support for m.
But this is only a suggestion.

In addition you must known that Vista can not be installed on each laptop. Vista needs a lot of resources and it s really counterproductive using Vista on this laptop because everything runs slower than using the other OS like Win XP for example.

Finally and above all the Vista already contains the CD/DVD driver. It of a Microsoft driver and it s is not necessary and not possible to install a special driver ODD.
It has the same like to use Win XP. You n t need any driver CD/DVD. The operating system should automatically recognise!

  • Satellite 5200 701: RAM problem?

    Hello

After my last thread, I could somehow isolate the problem further.

My Satellite 5200 701 boots Win XP correctly, but when it is lifted upward or to the smallest shake the screen freezes or displays the Win screen in strange colors. When I hit carefully on its underside after you have started successfully, it crashes immediately when I touch the part of the cover of RAM.

So, I guess it has something to do with the RAM. However, both RAM blocks have been verified by Toshiba, as well as the HARD drive.

    Does anyone have a solution?

    1 million thanks!

    Hi Moritz,

According to your description of the problem, it is most likely something made intermittent contact where your RAM modules are connected. Try to remove and then reposition modules RAM themselves (by taking the necessary precautions of antistatic property course) to see if that helps. Make sure that the RAM modules are in place and properly locked in place.

You can also try exchanging the RAM autour modules so that they are in the bays of spare.

If your problem persists, then it is likely that there is a bad connection between takes of the RAM and the motherboard connections.

  • Satellite 5200 701 does not start!

I have a Satellite 5200 701. The problem started a while Win XP suddenly hung up, when I moved the PC from one place to the other. Then it got worse and now that the Toshiba screen appears and then everything stops. When I swith it turns off and try again the display will be turned off and only the lights of the system and the blue subscreen will light up.

I send the laptop toward the center of German support and they apparently could not understand any problem. HARD drive and RAM have been tested as well as a test of effort for motherboard was made.

    Does anyone have another idea?

    Hello

Well, this is a strange question.
What do you mean by moved from one place to the other PC. ?
Did you use a wireless connection if you have moved to another place?
I guess you unit loses the connection to a wireless local area network and then he tries to connect again.
Perhaps that is a reason? But that's only my guess.

Well, in addition I propose to recovery your unit with the original recovery CD Toshiba.

    Hello

I installed my Satellite 5200 701 with Windows XP. Everything works fine. My only problem is that the FN keys do not work. I downloaded and installed all the drivers available from the home page, but it still doesn't work. Can you please send me what kind of driver I need exactly? I also looked for a guide of installation but I did ' t find one to download? Sorry for the bad English, I'm from the Germany.

    Hello

I put t know if you have the original Tools & Utilities CD for this camera. If so there must be advice that the common modules (V.5.03.00) must be installed as a first step, before you install any other tool or utility. This order of the facilities is very important because the common modules is a kind of module which is very important for the other features of the tools.

Also check out this CD if there is some sort of html file with installation instructions. If you can't find anything please post again. Maybe we can find something to help you.

    Good luck!

  • Satellite 5200 701: I can't use the TV-out more.

    Hello
This is my first post on this forum. I have a Satellite 5200 701 for 3 years now. I can't watch movies on my TV. I could use this function in the past.

Last November, I formatted my laptop with CD from Toshiba. As I didn't have a TV, I tried not using the TV function. But now that I have a (different) TV, I tried to use it without success.
When I press Fn + F5, nothing happens. When I go to the selection of the screen, I can select the 2nd display but in "Advanced", I can't find the same features I've had in the past (before formatting). I don't have the Nview utility in "Advanced"...
Is this a driver problem? NVIDIA, Toshiba or Microsoft? Problem of material...?

I don't know how to solve this problem.

    Kind regards
    jimbow

It cool s that you have solved the problem.
Thanks for the information. It could be very useful for users of the Toshiba a different forum.

  • Satellite 5200 701: which cable should I connect to PJ2 port on motherboard

    Hello world.

Currently, I am trying to fix a laptop Satellite 5200 701. The keyboard and touchpad are both dead but see the place in the Device Manager.

When I opened the folder, I found the motherboard has an empty on port marked PJ2.
When I looked in to it that I discovered that this is a port to connect a cable that feeds power to the keyboard, so I think that's the problem.

My problem is trying to find out what wire should be connected to it and what another port.

If someone could help, I would be grateful.
    Thank you very much.

    Hello

How can you come to the idea that the keyboard needs some extra internal powersupply? The keyboard has only one connector that is important, and this is the connector of the KEYBOARD. Only this and nothing else.
If there is an empty port then it has nothing to do an extra wire must be connected or whatever.

Another thing: If the keyboard and touchpad appear in Device Manager then why they do not work? Didn t you think a software framework could be the problem? Please try another operating system, a linux live CD might be a good choice to make sure that the keyboard and the touchpad are really not work.

Simply reconnect the keyboard and then try a linux live CD (knoppix would be a good choice, but you can also try ubuntu) to check if it work s.

Usually pressing the ESC key allows you to enter the default BIOS settings.
But you can change the BIOS settings more in the Toshiba HWSetup that is located in Control Panel.

  • Satellite A200-1CR: Question about upgrade HARD drive

    Hi all...
I would like to ask something...

I have toshiba Satellite A200-1cr with 120 GB HARD drive...

I would like to change my HARD drive. I found a disk hard 2.5 "with 250 GB.

    My questions are the following:

    (1) my knowledge of the workstations are very very good. Is it easy to change myself?
I guess it is, but I want to be sure... I guess that is on IDE, right? No SATA at all?

    (2) if I changed it I lose my warranty?

    (3) can I give my laptop Toshiba in Greece official store and let them make the change?
May I take in an informal shop, too?

    (4) can be put on the laptop 2 x 250 GB such US new computers laptops from toshiba?
Is there enough space in the laptop for such a change?

    Thank you in advance...

    Hey Buddy

It is good that ask you the question.

    (1) the Satellite A200-1CR supports SATA and no IDE interface and that's why you need a SATA HDD. It of really not difficult to replace the HARD drive and as far as I know, you should find a few details in the user manual. There is a useful statement and photos that explain the entire procedure.

    (2) hm AFAIK the drive replacement HARD will not void the warranty, and has no effect on the State of security.

    (3) you can also contact the maintainer authorized Toshiba in your country for a HARD drive replacement, but in my opinion that is not really necessary because the replacement is not very sensitive. As I said above, check the user manual.

    (4) I don t think that your laptop will support 2 x 250 GB HARD drive.
Of course, there are a few other series laptops which are abele to support two hard drives but I n t think that your laptop A200 support.

Just a small comment on the new HARD drive:
The fact is that some more HARD drive are not supported by the BIOS. I mean an upgrade to 120 GB to 250 GB drive HARD is really a leap one possibly your BIOS would not recognize the HARD drive correctly.
So I recommend to test the HDD first before buying.

    Good bye

  • How to change the Satellite L670D-103 using new SSD 80 GB HARD drive?

    Hello

I have a Satellite L670D-103 with a 320 GB HARD drive running at 5400 RPM which is too slow for me.

So I plan to change this factory by a new SSD HDD to increase the performance of the overall system :)

But as the SSD are expensive, I have only a 80 GB SSD.

I built the recovery on a USB media and I want to use it to restore my system to the new SSD (I previously did the space needed to ensure that all data can be stored on my new SSD 80 GB space; p)

Retrieving SSD partitioning new procedure is done without error, but when copying image to restore data to freshly created the partition, one not enough space error stop the process!

It seems that the recovery procedure is possible on a hard drive that is equal or superior to the original size of the disk (320 gb).

So, how can I restore mysystem on my new SSD?

    Thank you
    Stéphane.

    > It seems that the recovery procedure is possible on a hard drive that is equal or superior to the original size of the disk (320 gb)

To my knowledge, you have different recovery options:

(* 1) * recovery of factory default software

    (a) recovery to out of box state
    (b) recovery without changing the HARD drive partitions
    (c) recovery of a custom size partition

    (* 2) * "erase the HARD drive.

I think that if you choose factory default software recovery of-> recovery to out of box state then the recovery would create exactly the same size of partition on the new SSD which were available on the 320 GB HARD drive.
I think this might be the reason why you have received this message.

Perhaps you need to choose the 3rd option Recovery on a custom size partition

    What do you think?

  • Cannot install Win 8 - Satellite Pro C660 does not detect HARD drive

    Hello

My HARD drive died, so I decided to upgrade my Satellite Pro C660 - 1 9 to an SSD.
I made a USB bootable with Win8 and starts very well.

The problem is that it does not detect my SSD, so I can proceed with the installation.
SSD appears in BIOS but not in Windows Installer.
He said that there is a missing driver.

I downloaded the AHCI drivers (XP, only ones available) and even in this case, after you have selected the only rider that appears, it says no new device found.

I tried to change the SATA from AHCI mode to compatibility mode and it's the same thing...

    What can I do?

    Thanks for the help.
    Best regards
    Bruno Moreira

More old Windows XP need a driver AHCI Intel's but I think this isn't a problem with SATA driver missing because as far as I know Windows 8 as well as Win 8.1 already contains the drivers to recognize the SSD or HARD disk drive.
In addition, the installation of the OS should be possible even if the driver would be added for this procedure, you must use the "compatibility" mode
As you say, the compatibility mode is not working too, so I think there is another problem.

However, page driver Toshiba also provides a driver Intel RST (Intel Rapid Storage Technology) (Windows 8 - updated) you can try to add during the installation of the OS.

But I m wondering if you would be able to install this Win 8 on common SATA HDD.
Have you tried to format the SSD using a different computer, then install Win 8?
    Give it a try.
