Satellite A200-AH1 - recovery of crisis of phoenix BIOS, before I do that again...

Hi, new first thread here.

My problem is with my satellite a200-ah1.
Here is whats happening.

One day I decided to turn on my laptop and nothing.
It has been brought to future shop as soon as the problem has occurred they said the motherboard had to be replaced his $ 200 and work in addition to that... so I bought a new laptop. Now, I want to fix this one, because its pretty new and is portable.

I took the great technicians who know all aparently don't know how to put the screws on tight and he leaves. Many screws where ovfertightened and broken legs with small nuts on the inside but I managed to crazy glue back the pplastic legs, everything put together and all the screws are tightened again so far.
I've checked everything and more I tried different ram, no ram, hard drive, hard drive and the list goes to try to refine this component was causing a problem.
I never had a beep or any sign of signal or to go to the screen when you try different ram and remove it.
I press the power and I get the blue light the fan turn on half speed for seconds then stop no matter what I've done for her.

Now, I was ready to try to make a recovery of bios of crisis with a usb floppy drive.
When I had Fn + b and press the power button I got the purple glow to go, caps lock light went on with two other green light on the keyboard.
Now, I thought I was getting somewhere, but the hard drive just used light power.

So I tried with samething and usb flash drive.
Tried all ports, try holding fn + b key longer, but I just cant get usb to power anything.
What I do out of warranty, but very able to fix myself but I don't know where the problems here...

Please help, should probably to started this thread earlier. :)

It is not easy to offer a precise diagnosis but I think that there is serious hardware problem and you will not be able to fix it with this standard procedure as module/HDD repair or the BIOS memory Exchange.

A long time ago I had a similar problem on my Satellite M and in my case the CPU was faulty. After Exchange of CPU, I was able to start laptop. So maybe is the same problem on your laptop. Get used but good CPU on eBay, Exchange and try to start your laptop.

I put t know if you can do this alone but Exchange CPU is a very sensitive job and should be done by someone who knows how to do this.

  • Satellite A200-AH1 does not start problem

I have this Toshiba Satellite A200 - AH1 laptop computer that will not start.

The system has 1 GB of RAM, (2x512MB).

When I remove 1 stick, the system starts without a problem, if I replace it, and the other, the laptop boots also upwards. I tested the two ram slots and ram spent each time.

The problem of the laptop does not start only seems to happen when the laptop has installed two sticks. I tried even to 2 different new corresponding sticks and still nothing until I remove 1 piece of ram.

    Everyone encountered this problem before?
Any ideas what the problem may be.

My only other option would be to install a single piece of 1 GB of ram, but I would really like a better option.

    Thanks in advance...

You got your laptop with these memory modules?
Are you sure that you are using compatible RAM (DDR2-667)?

  • Satellite A200 - AH1 Wont Boot up

I have a Satellite A200-AH1 (PSAE0C-AH106C), the desire for portable power on but the screen remains empty. I tried to take out the battery and let it sit. I also tried reinstalling the RAM and HARD drive.
I tried to boot with no RAM at all and didn't have a beep error. For any help or suggestion would be appreciated. BTW, the warranty has expired 1 month ago (go figure!).

    Thank you

    Hello

My first idea was to remove the battery and unplug the AC adapter and wait for about 30 min.
But it seems you have already tested. Is this good?

Hmm. It's really a difficult situation if the workaround solution described above will not be useful or didn't help so I put t see otherwise as to contact the Toshiba ASP and check the laptop.
I mean that this problem could be due to parts on the motherboard.
Then we can talk about what could be the issue, but only verification of the laptop could make a 100% response.

  • Satellite A200: Error recovery - file Preinst.swm error: F3-F000-0008

    Hello.

I'm really not good at computers and things, but I'll try my best to describe the error in my laptop:

I have a Satellite A200 (with Vista), I bought about 4 months ago here in Australia. There a virus last week, so I made the recovery disc on 2 new blank DVDs using the recovery disk creator and creation process went smoothly without glitches.

All right then, I ran the recovery disc in what, in my view, is called the start menu? Anyway, after a few minutes I kept getting an error message that has something to do with 'Preinst.swm file. After a couple of times of clicking 'continue' and see this same error message by clicking 'ignore' and running the 2nd DVD, an error message "error: F3-F000-0008". "»

Now I assume that the error preinst.swm is due probably to a scratch in the recovery disc, or some fault in the DVD that I used and not with the portable reality itself. I just need confirmation you guys on this subject.

I guess the best way to go is just to have an another Vista recovery disk (from the store, I bought the laptop from) then? Or y at - it another way to solve this problem I can do before I leave to the experts? I use this laptop for work so really - no laptop, no work!

    Thanks in advance.

Really not easy to say why the restore procedure does not work.
But for me, one thing is clear.
If you have 2 recovery DVDs, you must always start the first!
If you start bad DVD, you will always get an error message.

To my knowledge the laptops computers Toshiba for the European market are delivered with all necessary CDs/DVDs and the recovery media is still in the package.
I put t know why Toshiba Australian didn't send the DVD of recovery as well as the laptop. Perhaps the recovery DVDs are simply available, and they offer only an option for the creation of a collection. Who knows...

However, it is s try to contact the service provider allowed in your country and ask if you can order a new CD from recovery for you laptop.

    Good luck and best regards

I reinstalled the recovery of the proceeds of my satellite a200-1ax disk and operating system running now in German language. and it's only now that I noticed that the drive that comes in the package is in German but I chose the English language at the beginning of the recovery of product.

Where did you buy this laptop? In Germany?
The recovery CD is delivered in the same language, where you bought the laptop.

  • Is the standard Satellite A200 product recovery disc?

It is very regrettable that after reinstalling the product of my Satellite A200 recovery disc, the language is now in Deutsch. Since I got the recovery disc to the center of Toshiba for a replacement, do you not thank they will be replaced by an English version? If so will be affect the entire notebook in its performance, or perhaps a program previously connected may have disappeared or missing.

The product recovery disc is standard for the same unit of model because there is that no product key required?

SP1 = Service Pack 1. This package has been designed by Microsoft and contains all useful and patches hotfixes. All this is designed to repair the operating system and make it better and safer to be used again.

At this time you should not install SP1. It may happen that some problems may occur after the installation of SP1. Toshiba didn't start load SP1.

  • Satellite A200 - Touchpad scroll function stop working after BIOS update

    Hello

After that I updated the BIOS (drawn from the Toshiba site), the scroll function stop working. I can still click, move the mouse pointer, but can no longer navigate the touchpad. Relocation of Synaptics driver is not the problem. The strange thing is that the computer detects only my touchpad as standard pointing device (port: PS/2) device. "Graph of pressure" and "Moodpad" function also stop working and complain "this program requires a Synaptics TouchPad, and the Synaptics Pointing device driver.

    Hello

What operating system is installled and which is more interesting: what version of BIOS you have installed? Why I ask? Because there are 2 different BIOS versions, one for Vista (1.80) and one for XP (5.20) which means that when you Flash a BIOS XP on a computer with Vista installed then some functions do not work properly as the FN keys or the touchpad.

If please check this out and make sure you have the appropriate BIOS installed.

    Welcome them

  • Satellite A200 - password disk HARD 'frozen' in the BIOS

Satellite A200 computer laptop does not recognize the HARD drive.
Reconstruction of the disk with Vista or XP - Pro (on another machine) have proved to be unsuccessful.

Originally, continually blue machine armored and quicky restarted, Machine was infected by the virus and Trojans that I believe have damaged BIOS. The BIOS now appears to have 'frozen' a HARD drive password (unknown) which transfers any HARD drive new - perpetuating the problem.

Any ideas or suggestions are welcome, thanks.

    Hello

Usually, you should be able to remove the HARD drive password in the BIOS.
You have to put the old HARD drive password must use ENTER to put an empty string as a new HARD drive password and you will need to confirm this
Save the changes and restart again

If this procedure is not possible or does not work then there must be something wrong with the BIOS, module ROM BIOS or motherboard.
Maybe an update of BIOS/reflash could be useful, but generally all passwords must be removed before attempting a BIOS updates, which could be risky
I think you should get in touch with a local ASP and need to ask for help, maybe the technician will be able to reflash the BIOS

    Welcome & good luck

  • Re: Satellite A200-1AX does not start after the BIOS update

    Hi all!

I wanted to install XP on a Satellite A200-1AX.
So I tried to update the Bios to the version that supports supported XP.

When I tried to install it, crashed Vista and now the laptop won't even turn on.

When I keep the power button pressed, the whistling fan but nothing happens.
I think the BIOS is gone or corrupted.

    What should I do?
Thanks in advance for any help!

    > When I keep the power button pressed, the whistling fan but nothing happens. I think the BIOS is gone or corrupted. What should I do?

What to say to boyfriend. It seems that something was wrong during the process of updating the BIOS maybe the BIOS was not written correctly and the ROM module must be flashed again with the help of a special procedure and the tool.

In this case, you can do anything you will need to contact the ASP in your country for a fix!

Don t waste time and ask a technician for assistance.

    Good luck and best regards

Do I need a new toshiba Bios Chip?

I have a Satellite A210 - 16G and I decided to the new version of BIOS (2, 00-WIN32) flash. I downloaded the new version, the decompressed files two (setup.exe and alaa200a.rom), quit all running programs and disconnected from the internet and launch the setup.exe.

After a program window apperared and it starts automatically check my bios version (strange thing - cooler system started working with maximum RPM) and after 5-10 seconds, this window became blink and at the top, there was a message 'no response '.

I thought that it is ok and I expect about 15 minutes for a result...
But I suck. I closed the window and tried to restart, but suddenly I got a white screen.

  • Re: Satellite A200 - drive recovery gives blue screen

    It makes me crazy.
I have two laptop A200 which were granted to the staff. They left and laptops have been completely OK.

Before I have the laptops to new staff I format and reinstall the operating system and software. Simple I thought, I've got the recovery DVDs. I rebooted with the DVD into a party to the process, everything seems to be fine. It restarts in windows enter the first screen of XP of windows with green dots below. I have a very quick flash of a blue screen and restarting the laptop, then continues with the quick blue screen through.
This happens on the two A200 I have.

If I try to load windows XP from our copy of the retail windows, he always says that no records can be detected. Again, it happens on both. I hear say you, it's the hard drive. Well, it's not the hard drive. I removed the disc placed in another laptop and a windows PC and it works as it should, it's two hard drives. With hard drives in laptops original A200 I can install Linux (unbuntu) without any error. I run disk check that everything is OK.
Toshiba says it's a virus! Seems to be the answer to everything, that they can't solve by phone!

I love the laptops of the thesis, they have been very good for us here, would like to get them running again. They have two years out of warranty.
The version of the BIOS is 5.20
    Any help would be great

    Hello

It's a little difficult to say what happens to your laptop, but if I have problems installing, I erase hard drive with a bootable cd of Acronis support, Acronis drive Cleanser

    http://www.Acronis.com/enterprise/products/DriveCleanser/index.html

    or East-Tec DisposeSecure

    http://www.East-Tec.com/download/index.htm

These programs are shareware and need to be enabled in order to make a bootable media.

I erase a hard drive, then install the original copy of Windows for my clients. If they have problems with ODD, I make a bootable USB key (if the Bios supports) or higher Lan installation. By the way, have you tried to install from a bootable USB key.

Talk about viruses, it can also take place the cloth of hard drive is recommended. In our service, we answer also like this phone as say the guys at Toshiba. Believe me, it's not easy to solve problems over the phone, the problem is that many customers cannot adequately describe the malfunction!
