Satellite L655 - 14 d - lots of RAM will be used

Hi all what he

I have a Satellite L655 - 14 d with 3 GB of RAM and 1 GB of dedicated video RAM problem in front, it's RAM exhausted even when the computer is left idle without any programs running in the back ground is about 65-70% of the total RAM is it normal to be like this? Help, please

concerning
jkjoms

Hi jkjoms,

It depends on your installed software stuff and the operating system

If you use Windows 7 with a lot of software installed, they always start in the background, is it possible that over 50% of the RAM will be used.
So it's hard to say if it of normal or not without knowing what stuff is installed, but in general this behavior is the only associated software and has nothing to do with the material.

By the way: If you don't need some applications at startup, go to msconfig (start > run > msconfig) and disable all programs that you don't need.

  • Satellite L20-100 - what modules of RAM can I use for the upgrade?

    Hi all

I have TOSHIBA Satellite L20-100 and I need to upgrade the ram memory up to 2 GB.
I found these models on the internet but I don't know that it is compatible with my computer laptop or not.

the following module on the eBay store:

    * 1 GB Kingston DDR2 667 Mhz 1 GB DDR laptop 2 NB RAM *.
    * Hynix 1 GB RAM DDR2 5300 s - computer notebook memory 667 MHz *.
    * ASint 1 GB DDR2-667 PC2-5300 PORTABLE 200 pin MEMORY *.

    Already now I have 512 DDR2 667 Mhz

Or any knows from where can I update the correct RAM?

    Hello

Theoretically, you can use all modules store because all the modules to meet specifications, DDR2-RAM, 1 GB, etc. for example.

In your case, I'd take the Kingston RAM. I've never heard ASint RAM, but I have good experiences with RAM Kingston. I always use Kingston RAM to upgrade my notebooks and never had any problems.

Last but not least, you can also buy RAM of an authorized service provider.

    Good bye

    Hello

I want to clarify that you can upgrade the memory to 1024 MB.
As far as I know Toshiba recommend using these memory modules:
    PC133 512 MB (PA3108U - 1 M 51)
    PC133 256 MB (PA3086U - 1 M 25)
    PC133 128 MB (PA3085U - 1 M 12)

But as you mentioned the laptop supports modules SODIMM 144 pin PC133 .
In this case, you use modules with these properties.
But I prefer the modules Kingston or Toshiba. You know that no names module performance is not very good.

so I read the manual of (Core i5 450M) of (http://ark.intel.com/products/49022) and found it supports ONLY, (DDR3-800/1066)

I can replace (1066 RAM) with this one (1333)?

    Hello

Your laptop can move up to 8GB maximum.

Modules memory compatible RAM for your laptop are:

    2 GB DDR3-1066-PA3676U-1M2G

I also checked specification and upgrade of RAM, you must use Rams of 1066 MHz.

  • Satellite L655-178 - which partition will be available to start?

    Hello

My Satellite L655-178 comes with active EFI Insyde H2O Bios. Apparently this BIOS needs to access the HARD disk before starting Windows. Nobody knows in which partition occurs this pre-start HARD drive access?

My laptop has 3 partitions on a 500 GB HARD drive
-400 MB Hidden Partition (without drive letter assigned)
    -C: Windows Partition
D: a Partition of data (with HDD recovery)

My guess is the Insyde H2O Bios to access the Pre-boot 400 MB hidden partition?

    Am I wrong?

    Thanks :)

    Hey,.

Your question is interesting, but may I ask why is it important? Serious errors on your laptop?

Well, first of all, you know that the 400 MB hidden partition is not the boot partition. It contains only the files of Windows recovery environment and cannot be accessed during boot I think. Just read this article:
    http://en.Wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Recovery_Environment

As you can see, it s a Windows feature and has nothing to do with Toshiba.

In any case, the start player C: partition will be accessible for on this Windows partition is installed. All that s!

But until Windows starts, the BIOS HARD drive search internal, but it doesn't have access to all data of it. The BIOS simply check if an internal HARD drive is installed and it is indifferent to what you have on it of the partitions.

    Hello

I think that the new battery must be tested, but before you do make sure you use the latest version of the BIOS

  • Can satellite L655-14F - I change the display driver?

all I want to know if I can 'Upgrade graphics card in my laptop.

    Satellite L655-14F...... Hotel details

    "Graphics card".

type: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 related HyperMemory technology
amount of memory: 1 024 MB dedicated VRAM (total available graphics memory using HyperMemory technology can be up to 2 267 MB with 3 GB and 32-bit operating system and 8 GB memory 4 083 MB with a 64 - bit OS system memory or system)
"type of memory: DDR3 video RAM (resp. RAM video and system memory combined)"

We are talking on cell phones and the No. Laptops have a very specific design and hardware upgrade is limited. Generally updated graphics card is not supported by Toshiba, so there is no sense of thinking about it.

Cooling system's biggest problem with laptops. Each laptop has the system of cooling optimized for certain physical infrastructure. Build in the cooling system should cool the hardware components and protect them from overheating and damage.

I will now use the same word as badhat: theoretically if you upgrade graphics card, you will have more powerful piece of hardware that produces more heat than the original. More heat means more likely to damage the material.

You can upgrade level RAM or HARD drive, but everything else is meaningless. That s in my opinion.

Why don't l t buy you more powerful laptop? Something like Satellite A660, P750 or Qosmio?

  • Satellite L655 is hot when the games

    Hello

I just bought a Toshiba Satellite L655. It has 4 GB of RAM, Intel Core i5 480 m, card ATi 5650 graphics and Windows 7 Home premium. There is a good graphics card to play games high-end however my laptop seems to get hot when you play the older and I think that my laptop overheats if I played all the top end of the game because when Iam, playing old games the cpu is at 60 degrees celsius in less than an hour.

    What should I do?

    Hey Buddy,

    > the cpu gets to 60 degrees celsius in less than an hour.
How did you check the temperature? Such a tool from Toshiba is unclear to me that tells you the exact temperature.

In addition if the CPU would really reach 60 ° Celsius it normal s behavior all at stake because the CPU runs on 100% usage and other components like the graphics card, motherboard, RAM, etc. also produces a lot of heat. Don t worry about it, the laptop is much more warm while in game.

Have you noticed problems like the black screen or a stop? If this isn't the case, everything is ok with your laptop. :)

  • Re: Crashes Satellite L655-S5110

    Hello

I have a portable Satellite L655-S5110 which has preformed flawlessly since I bought it new in November 2010, up to about a week ago when it froze without warning. I had to do a hard reboot to get it going again and after about 20 minutes, that it froze again which is now the problem. It will freeze in about 20 minutes each time it is started.

Thinking it was a software problem, I did a restore for two weeks before and same problem... I then did a restore to a point problem two months earlier and, frozen after a short time running. I removed any device and rebooted and same result... frozen. So I decided to reinstall... result of windows 7 Home premium 64 and even frozen. Don't start in safe mode has no change... frozen. I also restore the bios with the default settings, but the bios has never been changed, this was done just to eliminate a possible cause.

    Satellite L655-S5110
AMD Phonom II P940 1700 Mhz
Insyde BIOS Corp 1,70 Ver 2.6
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200 graphics card

    Thanks for all the solutions...

    Gun

You have almost everything and now you can see that this gel is probably not caused by software. Best evidence is OS einstallation.
The question is: what can be the problem? Did you perhaps improved some hardware such as RAM or HARD drive?

On this virtual path, it is not easy to make a diagnosis and propose a direct solution. In my opinion you can keep looking for why this happens, or you need professional help. In my opinion, you should try to get another HARD drive and test the functionality with the new HARD drive and clean OS installation (original recovery image).

    Can you do this?

  • Is upgrade material on Satellite L655-183 possible?

    Hello

I want to know if I can plug a new processor, or may be a graphics card in my laptop Satellite L655-183.

    Thank you.

    Hello

In General, these updates is not supported - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB9401AX0001R01.htm
On some models of CPU, upgrade is possible, but it can be quite risky.

Supported upgrade is RAM and HARD drive.

Problem is that laptops have a specific design and use some cooling system for this hardware platform. Hardware produce little heat and the material must be properly cooled. More powerful hardware will produce more heat and can result in property damage or overheating.

If you want to have more performance I recommend to increase the RAM to the maximum level and exchanging the HDD with SSD is much faster. Two upgrades are without any risk to your machine and you can do it alone.

I did it with my machine and I'm really happy now Mr. Windows (Win7) starts in 30 seconds.

  • Solution for Google Chrome (Helper) by using a lot of ram and cpu on mac os x

    Hi all

Some people have several tabs of google chrome, and it's using a lot of RAM. It also causes the fan go crazy sometimes. I looked for a solution for centuries, but no solution has allowed, until I stumbled upon the simple solution to use a google chrome extension that hibernates unused tabs. The problem has now completely disappeared.

There are a few different extensions that Hibernate unused tabs, but the only extension which has enough options setting to do what I want, is called "The Great Suspender".

You can set the time, after which the Hibernate (sleep) tab. The tab automatically resumes when it focuses on, (i.e., you don't need to then also click on a specific button). And the tabs of the extended day before will remain in hibernation after you restart the computer.

There are many other parameters that can be changed. (After you have made changes, don't forget to click the 'save changes' button.)

    I hope this helps.

    Thanks for the tip.

  • Satellite L655 - 14 d - how to restore factory settings?

    Hello, I'm Ali.

I have the Toshiba Satellite L655 - 14 d. I have format my laptop and repartition the HARD disk and reinstall Windows 7 from disc and I already save folder HDDrecovery...
Now, how can I restore my laptop to factory settings?

I hope to hear the solutions...
    Thank you
    ALI ADEL

    Hi Ali,

To clarify some things: you reinstall Windows 7 recovery disk Toshiba or Microsoft Windows disk?
If you have used the Toshiba Recovery disk, follow the instructions posted by Akuma. You can use the HDDrecovery feature to restore your laptop to factory settings.

If you have used the Microsoft disk you need recovery disk from Toshiba. HDDrecovery is a Toshiba feature and cannot be used with the operating system preinstalled. That is why it s not enough that you have already saved the folder HDDrecovery, it will not work!

If you don t have a recovery disc, you can order it here:
