Satellite Pro L20 - RAM runs with low speed

Dear reader,

I've recently updated my Toshiba Satellite Pro L20 to 2 GB, DDR2 667 mhz (Corsair ValueSelect) RAM because the old 512 MB of ram would not cut it anymore with all these processes.
Now, when I check my speed of ram with CPU - Z it says 200 mhz, whereas it should be at 333 mhz. I checked the chipset (Radeon Xpress 200 m) to ensure compatibility and it is compatible with ram to 667 mhz.

Additional features:
Toshiba Satellite Pro L20 - PSL2YE-005009DU
Windows XP Pro SP3
Intel Celeron M360 1.4 ghz
2 GB DDR2 667 Mhz
Radeon Xpress 200 m chipset

Now to clarify my question. I would run my ram at 333 mhz for many reasons, because if it is not I had been better to buy cheaper, slower RAM.
How can I use it, I can't access the bios to fix this, how can I access/derivation of the locked bios?

If you need more info just tell me.

Kind regards
Patrick Bos.

Hello

Perhaps CPU - Z isn't read correctly... Who knows?

Also maybe the RAM modules are perhaps not compatible to run at 667 MHz speed. I n t have experience with Corsair Value Select modules

Last but not least, you can do nothing. There is no option of BIOS or something, where you can change it. In addition this speed of RAM will not bring a solid performance gain.

By the way: did you check the speed of your old modules?

  • Satellite Pro L20 goes wrong with i.f. audio Fast Track USB

    Hello!

I used my Fast Track USB on new Toshiba Satellite L40 and I never had any problems with it. I could put a low latency and I did a few songs with him.

Yesterday, I bought another laptop, thinking of recording studio at home. He used the Toshiba Satellite Pro L20. It does not work with my interface. When I listen to music on Winamp or anything on Fruity Loops, I hear strong clicks, pop, noise. They introduce samples, or they appear during playback, or after a sample is stopped.

I noticed, drivers for Satellite Pro L20 are a problem. Its not supported by Toshiba more? The only chipset drivers are old, and you can download em only from site Web from Toshiba. The chipset is ATI Xpress 200 M. Its pilots are with the graphics card. Recently I noticed that you can download "ATI Catalyst Legacy Display Driver for Windows XP - card mother/IGP Drivers 9.11" and CRACK to make it possible to install on a mobile device like the L20. Yep it's funny, but its impossible to do otherwise!

things that I have tried and they have still not help:

    # try what happens when I use the battery and when to use the adapter

Initially, I wonder that you use old notebook L20 now. You have no more L40?

You must understand that the Satellite Pro L20 is older model laptop and also not the best choice for such operations. This laptop is probably designed for simpler day-to-day operations such as the internet, e-mail, office, a little bit of multimedia and that s all the.

I don't mean good old classic doesn't work with your external device, but you will be lucky if someone has the same external device and the same model of laptop and write about their own experiences.

Do you use factory settings or you have installed the own operating system?

  • Satellite Pro A120 - fan runs at full speed

I've had my laptop for a few years, and for about a week now when I first turn on the fan runs at full speed. I restart the computer immediately and fun runs normally. I suspect overheating or dust problems since it works at full speed as soon as it is powered but not after a reboot. I left at full speed for a long time to see what is happening - I is not too annoying. I usually restart immediately.

These laptops have the sensors of dew or something? I guess the House is cooler just now.
    Advice anyone?

    Ritchie.

    Hello

I doubt the s sensor issue or something like that
Cooling modules are controlled by the BIOS. The fan table that contains all the details about the features of the cooling module is stored in the BIOS and I recommend the default BIOS settings first

So, start the laptop, press F2 and access the BIOS.
Press F9 to get the BIOS default settings, and then save the changes and exit the BIOS.
Of course, the cooling modules must be verified if the vents are not blocked
The dust is more a cause of such symptoms
Remove dust using a jet of compressed air can be useful in your situation

  • Satellite Pro L20-164 will not launch

Satellite Pro L20 - 164 running Windows XP. Get the initial window (press F2/F12) then just a white screen.
    Any help welcome.

    Hello

You mean that you cannot access the BIOS?
Usually by pressing F2 should lead you to the BIOS settings.
If this is not possible, then a problem of BIOS/motherboard might be reason for that

You are able to boot from the CD?
You can boot from CD by pressing C or F12. By pressing F12 should allow a start on the screen menu. Then you could choose ODD as a boot device.

  • Cannot get wireless with my Satellite Pro L20

My Satellite Pro L20 simply does not recognize my wireless network at home - he can't even see when I search for wireless networks. With my other non-Toshiba laptop on - there was no problem and that captures wireless 4 or 5 in my neighborhood.

My Tosh works well when he hard plugged on the Net, but if you help get me wireless I would appreciate.

Are you sure that your laptop is an installation of a WLan minPCI card?
You can check this in the device under network adapters Manager

If the wireless network adapter is listed in the device manager then you should check the compatibility of the WLan standards.
If the wireless network adapter supports only the 802. 11 G standard and your router supports only 802.11 A or 802.11 standard B then you will not be able to connect to the WLan router.

  • What recovery CD to use with Satellite Pro L20?

We have several Toshiba laptops in use in our society. I need to restore a (a Satellite Pro L20) to factory settings. However, although I have kept all the recovery CD, most of them have labels which do not mention which model they are intended to be used on. On some of them I wrote the model number on the label by hand, but I did not do that for the L20. I know from experience that if I receive the wrong recovery CD, I have to put dozens of drivers and utilities individually, in order to find the right one would save me a lot of time and stress.

Each recovery CD has a number (for example GMR400626EN1), so it should be possible to identify the good CD of it, but I can't find the info on the Toshiba web site.

Is there a list that corresponds to the reference numbers for the models of laptop recovery CD?

    Hello

This info is certainly not available on the Toshiba support site. What you can try is to contact the partner of service authorized in your country. They have access to the database of Toshiba and I'm sure they can help you.

If you need addresses and phone numbers please check https://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com support & downloads search for an ASP.

    Bye and good luck!

  • What is the fastest processor, I could put in Satellite Pro L20

It is a desperate help request!

Football Manager 2010 will come out soon and my laptop should be at the height.
I know that I need to upgrade because Football Manager 2009 almost killed it!

At the moment I have Intel Celeron M 1.4ghz and 704 MB ram chip.

What is the song the fastest I could put in that? I did some research and found that I have only 2 GB of ram

The laptop is in perfect working order, so I don't want to buy a new one, just for fun he and its served me well over the last 4 years - I dropped it enough times! Just need to speed up a bit!

Hmm... You want really old enough Satellite Pro L20? I mean new laptops are more so expensive and I doubt that you will get a solid performance with the new CPU gain.

Anyway, in your notebook is only the preinstalled CPU pre-tested and nobody is able to say what other s CPU will run. But you should look on the specifications for other laptops Satellite Pro L20. If an another L20 is equipped with a faster processor, it should also work in yours. You can try it, but in the worst case, it will not work.

    Good luck!

  • Satellite Pro L20 does not illuminate

Hope you can help. We have a 5 years satellite pro L20 who never gave a lot of days. It runs from Win XP, had an upgrade (crucial) memory to 2 GB and a new battery 4 years ago 4 years ago. 2 days ago, he simply left with the same noise you get when force a shutdown by holding the power button down. I tried to boot with no battery, just the sector and only on a charged battery. All to nothing does not.

I then read the button of power with the battery and removed sector I did after leaving it overnight. When I replaced the battery it started as usual and lasted 30 seconds before turning off again, and then he was dead. I have tried all combinations with the ram up to 1 stick or kidnapped and attempted to get the bios with the HDD outside as well. Still nothing.

I noticed that when I put the battery in 2 of the 3 flashes briefly, and now the button of pwer while pushing the battery causes a brief start 4 seconds.

Any ideas as to what this may be? I suspect that the hardware and software. Also, I tried a different power adapter, once again no results. It stays just off.

    Thanks for any help...

    Hello

I'm afraid it looks like a serious m hardware problem
My first idea was a malfunction of the RAM in such a case, you could replace and test the memory, but it seems that you have already tried

In my view there s something wrong with a motherboard or a part on the motherboard :(
In this case I n t think a replacement of the motherboard would be useful since this part is very expensive

  • Satellite Pro L20 - can I put it to Draft N?

Can anyone of you thin people help me?

    Satellite Pro L20
    Centrino 1.8 GHz processor
    1 GB OF RAM
    Windows XP

I have a Satellite Pro L20 who has a tiny inside wireless card, IE wireless b/g and I was wondering if I could replace it by a minié n wireless card.
It is said in the literature that it should be a mini PCI type 111. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you all for your valuable time.

I agree with Luke antenna WLan 802.11 N standard needs 3-wire WLan to be able to run with better performance. AFAIK the antenna WLan used in L20 has only 2 sons and this may affect the functionality of Draft N.

I also recommend using a USB external Wlan key, which provides Draft N performance.

  • Satellite Pro L20 - is MS Office on the recovery disk

    Hello

This is my first time on this forum and I have little technical knowledge - please be gentle!

I have a portable Satellite Pro L20, who is now 4 years old (I got it in November 2005).

It has been running very slowly during the past year, so I removed all the software I use is no longer, have backed up all the files that I need to keep and defragment the hard drive.

I have not really noticed a difference in the speed, I understand that I can now try to format the hard drive and reinstall windows using the product recovery disc.

When I had first laptop, all I had to do was press the switch, enter a computer name and a couple of passwords and it is very well loaded with Office 2003, he waits for me to use!

Could someone tell me if the office is on the recovery disk?

It is said that a 2003 Note is there and I have a code for it, but don't talk about Word, Excel, Publisher, or PowerPoint - that I use on a daily basis.

I looked on the CD-ROM of the additional software that comes with the laptop, and it doesn't seem to be there.

Your help will be very appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Hello

As much as I know Microsoft Office has not been installed on the Satellite Pro L20.
Only the OneNote2003 Office was delivered with this laptop.

But this isn't the same OneNote and office are two different software!

    Don t mix it!

  • Satellite Pro L20 - CPU / battery upgrade

    Hi all

I have a L20 the Satellite with the Celeron 360 Pro. I have seen that you can get another satellite pro L20s running Pentium m 730 1.6GHZ CPU. I was wondering if it was possible to upgrade the processor in this machine. The power of thermal design of the Celeron is 21W which is slightly lower than that of the Pentium-M 27W, but should not running too hot as it has speedstep, the only problem is that the Pentium versions seem to have Intel graphics and the Celeron have ATI x 200, it's a different motherboard or the same?

If anyone knows if the upgrade is possible can you please post and let me know. Thank you!
Also, I noticed there is a battery 4300mAh who would last longer 200mAh battery I have, it works on 14.8V where as mine is 14.4V would this work in my laptop, im assuming that it should?

Maybe this thread will help you to get more information on the upgrade of CPU:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=14578&MessageID=53251

User Grze22gorz went the Celeron M for Pentium M processor and the system works properly.

    Additional threads;
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=21723&MessageID=80082

I found the part number of the battery (8 cell, 4300mAh): PA3420U-1BRS Toshiba Option European and accessories site and it s certainly consistent with Sat L20 and Satellite Pro L20

    Good day

  • Satellite Pro L20 would not publish.

I received a Satellite Pro L20 who had probably overheated (was running with contribution covered and turns off for good).

So far I had removed everything and mobo appears intact. I had allowed cmos and disconnected the battery, reinstall CPU (tested ot in a separate mobile - good) and I tried to start the internal/external screen with no effect. It starts well, fan turns and responds to the shortcut keys / deals with optical and hard drive but gives no video output. I can't test the ddr2 memory as the other laptop is ddr.

Is there a way to test the video output somehow? F5 (with connected external monitor) several attempts but don't know if he responded to it at all. It responds to the reset / wireless, powers down and changes corresponding s LED but gives without being eps either. And Board of Directors has no led indicator. Powering with F12 does nothing. And there is a clicking noise when you start (with headphones).

Any ideas would be very welcome.

P.S. The profanity? At least mark what you think, it's blasphemy - spend 10 minutes to make it messy and get what abbriviation consider you profanity...

You already have thougt that the motherboard could be defective? I mean the machine give some answers but it won´t come up anyway. It could be:

    -Defective RAM
    -overheaten CPU
-some resistance or capacitor on the map
-Perhaps that you have forgotten something or some metals inside the machine fold which causes some short circuit (there was already this case a few weeks ago here in the forum, the guy disassembled the machine again and discovered that some metal shielding of the base that was turn during reassembly of the laptop.) It caused a brief signs and come the didn t machine..)
-a faulty device (such as HDD, modem, keyboard, mouse, and any other PCB) which translates the non bootable.

Check the machine carefully (maybe it would be good to take it apart again), so if the machine after checking the won´t happen then you should give the machine to a toshiba technician. Maybe he knows better?

    See you soon

  • Satellite Pro L20 - recovery utility hangs and does not complete

    Hello.

I've been running my L20 Pro Satellite for two years now, quite happy. Unfortunately, in the last 3 months, he began to misbehave. The startup time stretched to 5-10 minutes by that I mean time spent in "black" screen between the initials XP boot logo and the bright blue splash screen Windows. Playing sound/media crackled and stuttered badly through the loudspeaker. So, being reasonable technical, I've read various articles forum tried MSCONFIG tweaks here and there, removed all viruses etc... Nothing helps.

I began to suspect a HARD drive problem. CHKDSK has not shown any errors. I finally resolved to back up my data and attempt a complete recovery. (Virgin!)

Unfortunately, this is going to plan. medium 90% up to the end of the NVA Toshiba Recovery Utility 1.0.1.0 I think, started making subtle beeps and stopped on the 'X:\03596002 '. File of the GHS. The Green HARD-drive activity light has renounced his reassuring twinkling. Nothing.

Any suggestions tips out there? I am currently in the State where he can not start (no NTLDR found).

    Help.

    Thank you.

HDD on SP L20 interface is - Serial ATA Rev. 1. 0a.

For the replacement of Satellite Pro L20 HDD or upgrades, you can use follow hard drives:
    With 4200 RPM.
    Fujitsu MHV2060AT
    Fujitsu MHV2080AT
    Fujitsu MHV2100AT
    Toshiba MK6025GAS
    Toshiba MK8025GAS
    Toshiba MK1031GAS

    With 5400 RPM
    Fujitsu MHV2060AH
    Fujitsu MHV2080AH
    Fujitsu MHV2100AH
    Toshiba MK6026GAX
    Toshiba MK8026GAX
    Toshiba MK1032GAX

So, you can choose one of these hard disks for upgrade. If you now of 60 GB inside buy 100 GB for replacement.

  • Satellite Pro L20: battery not charge when the power adapter is connected

    Hello

    all advice appreciated.

I had a Satellite Pro L20 for about 18 months. Recently, battery does not charge when the power adapter is connected. The battery light starts yellow (which means more liberated, I think?), then will both green, the machine sat for awhile. However the ACPI often said that AC is "offline."

There are two recent occurrences that coincide with this problem, I try to eliminate:

    1. my friends rat chewed by the feeder for pets! Power is Mobile OK insofar as he fled sector - the rat seems to have simply chewed by the outer cover (I see some threads, but I think that is just a shield, although I'm not an electrician).

    2. I put the laptop in hibernation for the first time. That seemed to mess up the system a bit, which was what initially drew my attention to the problem. This question is a bit complicated because I'm under Linux (Xubuntu).

I updated the drivers etc from windows when I bought the laptop. Never had any problems until now and have been running linux for centuries. Also, I have mainly the laptop the power supply turned off, but do not remove the battery (is that really a problem these days?)

I obviously need to replace the adapter, but is - it is likely (and how I can check) that the battery was borked until?

    see you soon
    Chris

First, please check if the other are lit.
If the AC led and power led are on the adapter sector is ok and it provides the power to the laptop.

    > The battery light starts yellow (which means more liberated, I think?), then will both green, the machine sat for awhile
If the battery LED is yellow, this means that the battery is not fully charged and if the Green led changes then recharging is caught and the battery has been recharged.

So I really don t see any problems with the charge process.

Maybe the battery is old and so you cannot use it for an extended in such a case only the replacement of the battery could help.

  • Too high temperature on Satellite Pro L20?

    Hey,.

last night, when the temperature of the 'Temp 1 meaning' of game reaches 101 ° C / 210 ° F.

    Is - this too high?

My Toshiba Satellite Pro L20 is now almost 5 years old. The fan works and the Bios for the cooling setting is set to 'Performance '. If the current clock speed is roughly 800 MHz (1.7 GHZ), feel Temp 0 is between 35 and 40 ° C / 95-105 ° F and the Temp sense 1 = 50-60 ° C / 120-140 ° F.

    Michael

Seems a bit high for such a machine... have you ever cleaned the cooling system of your laptop?

Could be the fan and cooling impeller is clobbed with the dust that causes these high temperatures. I suggest you to go for an electronic market, take a can with compressed air and clean with compressed air as the cooling system of dust and all that lives inside your machine. :)

Please check after cleaning if the temp rise again.

    Welcome them
