Satellite U400 - 15 processor Upgration

Hello

Please can someone tell what CPU do I have to upgrade my laptop Satellite U400-15E, so that he could support Intel® virtualization technology and 64-bit processor.

Answer please thank you

Hi model

And what is with the good supported BIOS for the new processor?
I put t think that Toshiba offers something like that because upgrade CPU on mobile units is not supported.

You know the whole thing is a bit complicated.

    Hello.

I want to upgrade an old Toshiba Satellite U400-14Z (http://www.toshiba.eu/discontinued-p...lite-u400-14z/) a little by changing the CPU. Initially there is a processor Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 with FSB to 1066 MHz but I thought to put there P9700 or P9500. It seems that they are similar, specification is exactly, except the speed and the amount of memory cache level 2. The question is: would this work?
I also found CPU called T9900, which is the fastest of the family. However, T-line requires more power than the line P, 25W to 35W in comparison. Is it possible that she would work in this phone?
Maybe there's even some CPU more Rapids that would fit. Y at - it all? I'm looking for the maximum possible speed.
    Thank you for the answers.

I found Intel® Core 2 Extreme Processor QX9300 who might be compatible. It has 4 cores and a thermal power of 45W design, compared to P8400 of TDP 25W. I suspect that the cooling of this laptop is insufficient to be able to disperse the money.

  • Re: Satellite U400 - 15G - can I put there Core2Duo processor?

    Hello

IAM Benji Germany and ive got a question about my new satellite U400 - 15G.

Installed is a DualCore T3200, now ive fugured that the laptop works on a G45 Express Chipset
that supports much better Core2Duo processors with less energy.

But I don't know exactly, that Port Cpu ive Got, and what my laptop maximum FSB...
800 / 1066, this is what I find on the G45 chipset in the interhnet... but its quite better to ask here
Autour, before buying a new processor, which does not work ;)

    First a general information;
I read here in the forum that upgrading the CPU is not supported by Toshiba
This means that even though you will be able to upgrade the processor, no one will be able to tell if your laptop would be stable or not also the BIOS is not designed for other processors, and there is a high risk that there could be a compatibility issue.

    Regarding the chip set:
Luke is right. The laptop was equipped with the Pentium Dual Core T3200 (2.00 GHZ) 667 MHZ CPU and Chipset Mobile Intel GL40 Express

Here is the page: Intel Mobile Core 2 Duo CPU
    http://Ark.Intel.com/ProductCollection.aspx?FamilyId=26548
    and here you CPU:

Here the details on Chipset Mobile Intel GL40 Express
    http://www.Intel.com/products/Notebook/chipsets/GL40/GL40-overview.htm

PS: I put t understand why a CPU upgrade is so important for you. to be honest, you won't see any strong performance increases after upgrade CPU and in my opinion, the risks are too high, that the laptop would not stable

  • Slow start on Vista Home Premium - Satellite U400-15B

    Hello

I just bought Satellite U400-15B and am finding it takes very long to start Vista, I went into msconfig and disabled the things I don't use and stuff that I think is not necessary, but it is still having to wait ages before that I can use the laptop. I have enough RAM and processor speed, so I don't think that the specifications of the laptop are a problem

Is there something that can be done on this slow start, any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you

    Hello

I think slow start or laptop slow operations depend on good configuration of the OS. I played with this last month and I am now convinced that Vista starts and runs on my laptop.
I wrote about this in another thread and if you have time look under http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=134947

Please let me know what you think of this.

Where can I get these new drivers please?

BCZ like I said earlier, my laptop is slightly more runing slow now.

second problem, when working on battery (Vista Edition home premium x 86), the cpu still works on 2000 MHz, and I have only 2 hours my battery. Can I 'take control' of my processor?

    Thank you

    Hello

I checked the news on Satellite U400-12 p and I can't see the info on dough here but the fact is that the Satellite U400 comes with battery 6cells 3700mAh ability. The part number is PA3634U-1BAS/BRS.

As option to upgrade Toshiba also offer 6cells with capacity of 4800mAh battery. The reference number of this battery is PA3635U-1BAM/BRM.

  • Can I install Vista Home Premium 64-Bit on my Satellite U400?

    Hello

In another thread, I posted a problem with no hot spare for the OS pre-installed Grrr...

In any case, I think to upgrade the 64-bit operating system - is - anyone know if this is possible on the Satellite U400? I checked the specifications of the processor on the Intel Web site and it seems that the CPU can... but on the rest of the machine?

    Thank you

    Peter

Well, Yes. You must take a physical inventory of Sysinfo or device manager and then for each specific devie locate and download a driver.

When you uprade to Vista 64-bit, then any driver not found during installation can be acquired from your download. Vista is generally well equipped with drivers, with the exception of the exclusive features of Toshiba.

  • Can satellite U400 - I switch to a quad core CPU?

    Hello

I recently bought a Satellite U400, and I was wondering if I could move the CPU on a quad core processor.

    * is it physically possible? that is, fit the plug? It seems that the Q9xxx and the T5750 share the same socket but maybe he ore other parameters to look for.
    * How can I check if the motherboard supports the Q9xxx? I should probably need a BIOS upgrade: what is the difference between a win32 and win64 bios? I could guess that has something to do with the target OS, but should I assume that the "win64" adapts to any OS 64-bit-ready (i.e. linux, * bsd)?
    * are there significant losses in the battery life?
    Thanks in advance

    > in any case, is there a way to check if the BIOS / motherboard supports a quad core CPU?
You will not find any information about the BIOS and CPU support on Toshiba pages.
The BIOS has been designed the U400 and CPU that is equipped with the U400 series.

I put t know which chipset your U400 is compatible but my U400 supports Intel GM965 chipset, and the Intel GM965 supports the same features as Intel PM965 chipset.
    http://www.Intel.com/assets/PDF/datasheet/316273.PDF

The Intel PM965 chipset supports the processor Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile for Mobile Intel 965 express chipset family.
The Quad core CPU is not mentioned. So, it seems that these processors are not supported!

    The question is...

I want to upgrade my portable computer system memory 3 GB DDR2 (800 MHz) RAM to 4 GB of RAM DDR3 (1066 MHz), which is compatible or not?

    Respect,
    enteoana

    Hello

In my opinion, you should follow specification not Intel and Toshiba. S Toshiba of info is based on own tests and facts.
So, depending on the specifications of Toshiba for the GM45 Chipset it is clearly written:

    Min(on Board) wheel capacity - DDR2 800 MHz 0 MB / 8 GB max
    Type of extension of memory - DDR2 800 MHz 1 GB/2 GB/4 GB
    Type of module - SO-DIMM

So if Toshiba write about 800 MHz modules, you must use the modules to them and not faster.
You may be able to use faster too, but they do not work with the maximum speed, but not going down to 800 MHz.

If you want to use max RAM amount use recommended and tested 2 x 2 Go DDR2-800 (PA3669U-1M2G).
Indicated as compatible RAM, 4 GB DDR2-800 (PA3670U-1M4G).

  • Motherboard for Satellite U400-15E work Equium U400-124?

    Hello

My graphics card died on my U400 - 124 & I said that the motherboard must be replaced.
I found one for a Toshiba U400-15 and I was wondering if that will enter my chassis.
It's ok if I have to reformat my hard drive & reinstall windows.

Here's what he said on that I found.

    A000060020
    Motherboard Toshiba U400 - 15th

    Compatible with A000027670 A000060020 31TE1MB01N0

I have attached a picture of my model below.

    Any help is really appreciated

According to the image of the Equium U400-124 belongs to the series of PSU42E

Satellite U400-15E belongs to the PSU44E, but both series are very similar, and I guess that the motherboard could be compatible... the presentation of the motherboard seems even if from my point of view of a few you should be able to install this card.

    Hello

Whenever I start my new Satellite U400, TrueSuite Access manager says that the drivers are not installed for the fingerprint reader and try to install them again. Even after I install TrueSuite Access Manager, he asks me to reinstall the driver. I'm currently ignoring this but it bothers me.

"TrueSuite Access Manager on Portege M700 - 13P"asked the same question and answer. But I did not understand what means TPM.

    Can someone help me?

    Hello

On the European driver Toshiba page, you will find a new v-Fingerprint Software 7.10.1.2
Remove your old software from the system. Then clean the operating system using the CCleaner (it of free). Reboot several times, and then install the new fingerprint software downloaded.

  • Can I use Intel Wireless Display - Netgear PTV1000 on Satellite U400-157

I want to use the NETGEAR PTV 1000 wireless display device. The hammer on the Net says I should be able to use it if I change the operating system to Windows 7. I see that I need http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wtech/iwd/sb/CS-031059.htm Intel Wireless Display to use.

The Intel Wireless WifI Link 5100 wireless on the Satellite U400-157 is. Seems that it is not one that is required to run the PTV 1000? So an operating system for Win 7 can not allow me to use the PTV 1000?

  • Satellite U400 chess backlit

The backlight on my Satellite U400 guard failed. If I close the lid and open again once it comes back for a few seconds and then fails again UNLESS the power cord is out and the laptop running on battery power at which case it acts normally.

I changed the inverter. Any other ideas?

    > UNLESS power cord is out and the laptop running on battery power, in which case it is normally.

Did you check if the key Fn + F6 and Fn F7 combination would increase and the brightness of the screen?

Please check if the brightness of the screen can be changed using these buttons then the FL inverter should be ok and the problem could be linked to the Win7 power management setting.

If the problem is related to power management settings, then I would recommend this change.

    * Go to control panel-> power-> Settings Options * change Plan

Here you can adjust the brightness of plan
You can set this separately for the use of the battery or AC mode
