Satellite U400-150 - always needed, even to start supervisor password

Satellite U400-150 /PSU45E, the cooler BIOS v4.0, just been flashed (23/07/2009).

Well, I have a problem with the password at startup. I need to password, which should be _only_ required to enter the "BIOS". When I set the supervisor password (user is clear) I guess I should be asked for password enter or manage the CONFIGURATION of the BIOS, but it must always give me the password. To start, to start from other sources (F12) and to enter the SETUP.

In the AWARD bios, there is an option called "password at startup: enabled". But I find not so in Phoenix. In the topic "Security" in "CONFIGURATION of the BIOS", there is an option to set a password for the 'supervisor, user, or HARD drive. I already tried all combinations, none for me.

What I want to achieve is:

I would like to be invited to give a password only when I enter the CONFIGURATION or when I try to boot from another deaf (hold F12). When I start the system only during the regular ignition I need not give the password.

Could you please help me?

> One last thing, I can still boot from another source, such as USB, DVD key, another without entering the password... what kind of security is that?

Check this Toshiba document on:
* What is a BIOS supervisor password? *
http://APS2.toshiba-tro.de/KB0/FAQ9202JF0000R01.htm

It is said clearly:
+ A password of the BIOS supervisor, used in combination with the password of the BIOS, is the second security option you have for your laptop. The BIOS supervisor password protects the BIOS settings. In most cases, the BIOS supervisor password is used by the COMPUTER system administrator in a network environment to restrict the access to certain functions of the laptop, but individual users can benefit from this additional security. For example, a supervisor of the BIOS password is adjustable to restrict access to the BIOS, to restrict the user BIOS and disk HARD or password to restrict the access to power management features. In most cases, these types of restrictions are needed in the middle to large companies. Users without supervisor BIOS password cannot change these settings.

    Hi all.

I have download several times because I think to choose the correct driver, but the problem even if I need help

    Thank you all

    Hello

As far as I know the laptop uses Intel WLan 5100AGN map and audio chip Conexant CX20561.

The WLan driver can be downloaded here:
    http://APS2.toshiba-tro.de/WLAN/

Audio driver can be downloaded from the page of European driver of Toshiba.

It is important that you install all service packs of Microsoft and patches before install you the audio driver.
SP3 must be installed before you try to install the audio driver.
SP3 contains necessary fixes that are important.

  • Satellite U400 - 150 (PSU45E) - ALPS touchpad problem

    Hello

I am trying to solve some problems with the touchpad. My PSU45E Toshiba U400-150 was fitted in ALPS touchpad (synaptics, which is much better from day instead).

Previously I worked on another laptop to factory with Synaptics and software that he had advanced options, better than the ALPS.

    1. when I use ALPS driver that the coursor movement seems to be "nervous", do not help the traffic regulations. So I uninstalled the driver ALPS, Synaptisc and the movement has been widely. However, the Synaptics software had any advanced options (such as the areas of contact, scroll, etc.). So I restored the ALPS driver, once again, and returned "jumpy" movement. I assume that the driver is not as good as synaptics.

2 I need in fact for the middle button emulation. In synaptisc, there was this option in the "contact areas". I was using the upper right corner for the emulation of the middle button of the mouse. I was looking for such an option in the ALPS driver, but there is none.

I woud be gratefull for any sollutions, suggestions about the issue 1 and 2. Is it possible to emulate the middle button of the mouse in the ALPS?

    TIA.

I have a touchpad Alps on my Tecra and its very good, so maybe you just need to update the driver Alps?

  • Satellite M100-150 blank screen sometimes on start/alarm clock

My friend and I both have the same model of notebook M100-150. Windows XP is installed on two laptops. And it's very stange, but it is true that we have the same problem. Sometimes, when the os specifications, it no longer responds and white - black screen.

If I power down/up for laptop, it loads normally. The BIOS on my laptop version is last 2.80 (updated 3 days without help). I think that there is something common in both cases.
And one thing I can Imaging is the BIOS.

    Something wrong with it.

    Hi mate,

almost the same discussion is here:

    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=23834&MessageID=87563

If after reading this, I suggest the following before contacting an authorized partner
(which can be found through this link: http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/generic_content.jsp?service=EU&ID=ASP_SUPPORT)

do a check of the system with "SuperPi" to check if the RAM and the processor are well and try to do a restore complete. Check for a new bios, regardless if you've ever watched.

And then if after recovery and update all your drivers/tools/bios that did not really help, click on the link above and contact and ASP for more proceedment. (Maybe for a checkup of material and/or repair).

My problem is that everytime I restart the computer, the brightness is set at the highest level and I have to reset it each time because I prefer the lowest level. Can't I fix this somewhere?

    Hello!

    > Can't I fix this somewhere
Yes, you should only install the Toshiba Power Saver for Windows XP.
Here, you can set the level of brightness at full power (AC adapter) and battery modus. It s a very useful tool and I like it.

_HDD password user and HDD Master Password: __________
There are two levels of password of HDD, HDD user password and the HARD drive password. If two levels of HARD drive password have been registered, you can access the HARD disk by entering one of them. Password of TOSHIBA (TPU) utility supports only the HARD drive password. Now, I want to change my internal HARD drive. After upgrading the HARD drive I wonder the supervisor password in a black screen directly after pressing the power button. • Satellite U400 - how to remove the HARD drive password?

    Hello

I have Toshiba Satellite U400-PSU40E. I put the HARD drive password to test this optoins in BIOS. It woks fine. After that, I remove the HDD password, but when BONES start to start the fist show me black sreen with password and when push enter Os start at startup.

How to remove this black screen (password disk HARD is clear) before you set a password it is not this black screen?

    Hi iliyan_84,

You only set the HARD drive password or another password too?
Normally the HARD drive password can be removed in the BIOS. Therefore, to set a new password and don't enter all the keys. Just press the Enter key to leave the new password disk HARD vacuum box.

Try to also load default settings in the BIOS and if it doesn't work, you must update the BIOS. You can find the latest version on the official website of Toshiba.

  • Satellite U400 will not usually start upward

    Hi all

    I have a Toshiba Satellite U400-217 (PSU44E) running Windows 8.

Worked fine until a week ago. Now, when I turn it on, the lights are, there is a memory hard drive spin (1 second) - and then nothing. Above the keyboard lights stay on, but the screen remains black.

I read a use Reset where you take the battery and the power cable on and press and hold power for 30 seconds, then plug the power cable in, starting at the top, stop, reinsert the battery and start again.

However, the machine still primer not after 30 seconds the hold button. I always get just the lights and nothing else.

However, the machine will start usually fine on an attempt to out all 30 or more.

It's boring - ideas or suggestions very welcome.

    Thank you very much

    KaiBosh

    > However, the machine will start usually fine on an attempt to out every 30 or more.

In my opinion, you should first check the HARD drive
A friend of mine installed Win 8 on the new computer laptop from another manufacturer
After a while that the laptop will not start I thought its something wrong with the card mother, but in the end it was just a HARD drive failure

To be honest I n don't know if his only problem disk HARD but in my opinion, the HARD drive is one of the first pieces that need to be checked
OK, in the worst case, it could be possible that dysfunction of this mobo.
