  Scan and copy are two different functions: to the scan function, you can save scanned images/files to your computer and to copy funtion, it copies and gives you on the discharge papers. Back to your question: Yes, it can create and save files to your computer using the scan function.

  The computer function scanning work with Mac OS.

  Make sure to install the latest software of full functionality for your HP and not the original CD operating system that is not compatible with Lion.

  Be sure to select the Software from HP recommended during installation.

  I suggest following these steps below and check if this solves the problem.
   
  a. Open regedit by clicking on the Start button and type regedit in the search field and press to enter.
  b. navigate to the key:

  d. click on 'ArchiveFolder' in the right pane
  e. check its content is "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\WindowsNT\MSFax".

  Just figured it out.  If you are using windows 7, you press Scan on your scanner, Doc in indexed pdf file. After having scanned and cropped if necessary, you click on ok, and when it opens in acrobat, you go to file, save to the Clipboard, open word and paste. You can then edit the text.  You can then go to file, save as and give it a name.
