Search engine and entera URL derivation directly

I want to enter a URL directly in an area without the unnecessary step to be sent to google to open a Web site, just as we did on older versions of browsers. Isn't this possible? I'm running Windows7 64 bit machine if that makes a difference. Also, I want to talk about problem of version 9.0.1 Firefox solved by internet convenience store stating the computer not configured for 'DIRECT ACCESS' and solved the problem. Thanks to all who responded.

When you type a URL in the address bar, Firefox 9 will load normally this URL directly without doing a search. If this does not work for you, it might be because some other software has changed the settings. For some troubleshooting instructions, see what to do when searches take you to the search wrong site.

You can also try questions Troubleshoot Firefox in Safe Mode to see if the problem is caused by an add-on to Firefox.

I have the problem by changing the url of search engine for the url address bar and the search engine plugin. My version of Firefox is 35.

Specifically, I want to use Google.co.uk for each search, but it goes to a country different from Google.

I tried to change the subject: config-> keyword. URL: value: "https://www.google.co.uk/#q=", but it does not.

I have tryied changing the search engine plugin, which does not work either.

You need to install a search engine for your favorite country, then select this search engine in "Options/Preferences > Search" as the default search engine.

  • Search engine box change also affects the default search engine in the URL bar

I've just updated to 23.0, and for some reason, change the search engine in the search box also changes the default search engine in the URL bar as well. I don't know if it's intended functionality (I hope that's not), but it is a bit irritating. I didn't know if it was related to an add-on that I installed it at the same time, so I tried to turn that off, but the problem was still there. so I tentatively guess it has to do with 23.0.

  • 36 Firefox: How can I KEEP my choice of default search engine and Yahoo Search?

Firefox 36 insists now that I use Yahoo search constantly changing my default search engine choice. No matter now many times I put it for Google, I'll get something Yahoo and it's once again. I have Yahoo not checked in the search preferences, hoping that it will not be displayed again. Have restarted Firefox several times. No luck.

My last resort is to REMOVE Yahoo Search my list of search engines to prevent that from happening? I MIGHT want to use some time later, but not every day.

ALSO. If it's important, when I filled this question with 'installed plugins' information on my Mac and Firefox, a witness appeared, so I went to tools > Modules. This screen appeared for a second and instantly has far to another screen: DNS Yahoo Error Handler who had "garmin communicator plugin icon developer" entered in the search query box. My web experience is now taken by Yahoo?

Hmm, it sounds like you have some kind of hijacker in your Firefox. Try this:

Disable all non-essential or unrecognized extensions on page modules. Either:

    • Command + shift + a
    • Tools menu > Modules

In the left column, click Extensions. Then, when in doubt, turn off. (Or if it is obviously the badware, delete).

If Firefox is redirected at this point, see the next section.

Typically, a link will appear above at least an extension disabled to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links in the last step.

    Who help me?

If Firefox is unable to use the addons page, you may need to block extensions using the Mode without failure of Firefox. It is a standard diagnostic tool to disable some advanced features of Firefox and extensions. More info: questions to troubleshoot Firefox in Safe Mode.

You can restart Firefox in Mode safe mode using either:

    • button "3-bar" menu > "?" button > restart with disabled modules
    • Help menu > restart with disabled modules

(Not all add-ons are disabled: Flash and other plugins still works)

After stops in Firefox, a small dialog box should appear. Click on 'Start mode safe' (not reset).

    Can remove you it?

  • search options disappeared after updating firefox to address the slowness. How to make a comeback (there is no default search engine and no option)?

the search box (with a magnifying glass to the left of it) is completely insensitive and there is no search option in the options of the menus/screens. Assistance from the address field in the search bar appears only intermittently to perform an Internet search for key words. a solution would be greatly appreciated.

You can check if you have the XML files including Google's default search engine in the browser\searchplugins file in the Firefox program folder.

If this isn't the case, then you need to reinstall Firefox.

Try to delete the file search.json and possible search - metadata.json and search.sqlite files in the profile folder of Firefox to reset the default search engines.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder currently in use:

Firefox will rebuild the file search.json from the default search engines in the folder "browser\searchplugins" in the Firefox program folder and the searchplugins folder in the Firefox profile folder.

  • I had a few problems with the search engines and history

My default search warning back to Yahoo after a reset on my computer. Close Firefox keep one to change but by restarting the computer, it takes.

I can't open the sidebar history. The option "view the history of your" opens its tab fine (the drop-down menu that says 'Show History Sidebar', 'clear recent history... ("ect.). But, when you click on the "Show History Sidebar", nothing comes. Can I use the "Show history" option, but the sidebar does not open for some reason any.

I just finished with a complete analysis of the Microsoft Safety Scanner and it said not that there is anything wrong. I have not reset the computer again to see if something has changed although after the factory reset (see the 2nd paragraph) it seems returned to Yahoo (search engine he kept going to happen).

I open the history tab in the menu of the toolbar, and everything seems fine here. I also had him always use private off all first browsing mode. After activating the option clear history when Firefox closes, I ended up having to reset to factory settings (things he saves were saved isn't really a problem) that doesn't seem to fix the problem with the sidebar of history not to come.
