security of Gmail and thunderbrid 38.2

I had to put my Google gmail account to allow the less secure apps be able to enter my PW when getting mail Thunderbird.
It's not supposed to lower security just to start using Thunderbird. Needs fixing or I'm doing something wrong.

Thunderbird supports authentication OAuth2 for Gmail for IMAP accounts.
OAuth2 is what Google considers "safe."
OAuth2 isn't available for pop accounts This does not mean that Thunderbird is the "insecurity".
In any case, turning on 2 stages of authentication significantly improves the security of your Google account, whether or not you use OAuth2.
You do not have with 2 stages of authentication allow 'less secure apps.
