Shrink a Partition of XP, so I can clone an SSD

I have XP Pro installed on the hard disk of 500 GB.

I just bought a 256 GB SSD and I would like to clone my XP installation to it.

I already cleaned my HD to reduce the space used to 180 GB and done a Defrag.

I use Acronis to clone the drive, but I have to reduce the size of my XP partition to match the size of my SSD?

I downloaded the Mini Partition Wizard tool, just in case.

Thank you.

Doug

It's a question of Acronis — but even their older products you have helped create an image of PARTITION (no DISC) and the transfer of that image of the partition on a drive that has enough space for the data.

So if you have 200 GB of data or more - you can make an image of partition and apply it on your 256 GB SSD without problem.

It used to be something like this...

  • Shrinking Bootcamp partition and add space for Macintosh HD

Guys, after helping me with my previous question, my Macbook is almost as I want it to be. As said, I have a Macbook Pro 15 "retina end 2013 with OS X El Captain (later) and in addition, a Bootcamp with Windows partition 8.1." It's that everything works fine now, but the partition Windows 8.1 has 300 GB and my score only 80 GB hard drive Macintosh.

I wanted to shrink the partition, Bootcamp in Windows 8, 1 with Minitool Partition software but, obviously, when I reduce this score I get unallocated space that I can't turn into a new partition because I have 4 partitions in the MBR slot. So, what is the best way to reduce my Bootcamp partition and add space on the Macintosh HD partition?

    Thank you very much!

Remove the Boot Camp partition, and Windows using Boot Camp Assistant. Then start to affect the size of the Boot Camp partition you want.

    Hello

It is the first time that I use this Ant of response, so if I'm doing something wrong, just tell me. I'm trying to create a new partition to install Windows 7 on, but all first, I need to shrink a partition. I am using the disk management tool. When I try to reduce it, he said "catastrophic failure."  Volume was 137 GB free.  My system specs are as follows:

    Laptop HP Dv4
Windows Vista Edition Home Premium SP1 64-bit
    4 GB OF RAM
Hard drive GB 219 (137 GB free)
    AMD Turion X 2 Dual Core @ 2.10 GHz

I would like to know if there is a good free 3rd party tools that can do this?

    Thank you

It sounds like your just decreases too. And you never want to cut too much because too much shrinkage is not good. Now that it is established, try lowering the amount of the withdrawal. In the computer management console, I mean. Thank you, Jeremy M - Support Engineer

You can add an internal SSD to the envy of HP 750 - 197c Desktop that has a 2 TB drive installed?

    DMSIceman, welcome to the forum.

Yes, you can move the HARD disk and install an SSD.  You will need to buy at least a 128 GB SSD.  Here is the data sheet for the computer.

The best way to install an SSD is to leave the current HARD drive as it came from the factory.  Connect the SSD drive to another SATA port on the motherboard.  Install the software of Migration data provided by the SSD manufacturer on the HARD drive.  Once installed, open it and follow the instructions carefully.  You choose the SSD as a target.  After the data is transferred from the HDD to the SSD, you can disconnect the HARD drive and start the computer.  It should start on the SSD.  Then, you can disconnect the SSD to the first SATA connector and move to another Bay HARD drive and connect it to another SATA port on the motherboard.  You can use it for storage.

I like the SSD Samsung EVO.  Samsung offers its data Migration software to clone HARD drive.  In addition, they provide their software Wizard to optimize the performance of the SSD.  You can find all the software at the bottom of the page in the link I provided for the EVO.  The Samsung SSD were good about starting in HP computers without changing the BIOS settings.  You will need to buy an adapter to allow the reader to 2.5 "to fit into a 3.5 Bay".

    Hello

mSata differs from SATA, and there SSD that are msata and SATA SSD. You will need to decide how you want yourself. If you want an msata player then it will go into the ports of m you have shown, but if you want a SATA SSD then you connect just like disk main HARD that is there now is also a SATA type.

  • HP Compaq dc7800: can I install SSD on HP Compaq dc7800 Minitour Convertible?

    Hello

Can I install SSD on HP Compaq dc7800 Minitour Convertible?

Should I notice something special in this SSD buying?

I need to by a "cage" for the SSD?

    Hello:

A problem you will have, is that there will be no support on this model, which means that you will not be able to optimize the drive SSD TRIM.

This is because the PC has only two parameters of the disk controller... RAID and IDE.

Support RAID TRIM is not introduced by Intel until the 7 Series chipsets came out.

Yours has a 3 series chipset.

That's the only reason why I have not put an SSD in my dc7800.

Another problem you may encounter, it's that my dc7800 rejected all the sata III drives I have installed unless it's a SATA III which came with a HP PC.

I had to take the disk of 1 TB SATA III out of my Elite CMT 8200 and exchange with the one I bought for my dc7800 because she had the symptoms listed in this HP newsletter below...

I need to spend my second hdd to a 2 TB drive, so I can clone main drive.  Are there compatibility issues, that I need to know?

It should not be. A 2 TB drive is an option on this model. If it will not be the main disk where the OS is installed, then the only real problem in that you should have to run is to find an additional SATA cable.

This will be just a version of the source running.

  • Shrink a partition on Satellite L550-1CW

    Hello.

I'm likely to have problems if I followed this guide...

    http://www.SevenForums.com/tutorials/2672-partition-volume-shrink.html

For now I just partitions C & D standard and just thought that I would create a small partition for some files, I would only decrease partition D about 20 or 30 GB

I can't read this guide now, but I see no problem if you want to change the structure of the partitions and reduce the D partition.
What you should do before you change the structure of the partitions is to create recovery DVDs using the preinstalled Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator.

If something goes wrong and you will not be able to use the HARD drive recovery process, you can install OS using this installation of recovery disc.
Please note: when you use the recovery for the OS installation disk all HARD drive and the existing partitions will be deleted and you will lose the new structure of the partitions.

  • How do I partition my drive so I can create a full backup of my computer?

My hard drive with windows 7 appears in disk management with 3 partitions. One is the system partition labeled C: healthy (System, boot, pagefile, Active, Crash Dump, primary Partition) and the other 2 say-healthy (recovery Partition) 1.46 GB and healthy (Primary Partition) 6.36 GB. The other 2 are shown as 100% free. Can I remove these or at least the other primary partition so I can use the space? I want to create a partition where I can make a full backup of my computer so I can restore to the current state.  Any help on how to do this? I'm not at all familiar with the help of disk management. I guess I can delete the system partition, and then the 6.36 GB will be automatically added to the first primary partition, or it would show as unallocated, then I have to shrink the first primary partition and merge sort the free space of the 2 partitions to create 1 partition backup. But I have never done this so I don't know exactly what to do.

I also have an external hard drive 2 TB USB with 1 primary partition. I would like to back up on that as well (I guess I should also create a separate partition for this.). Ideally, I would like to have my computer Setup, so when it starts up I have the ability to restore. And I guess just that this would require backup on a separate partition.

I have two Windows 7 with the backup and restoration of facilities as well as Acronis True Image Home 2011.

    Any advice much appreciated

    Thanks, Mike

Save your files or your partitions in a free partition on the internal drive is a waste of time. Doing so offers no protection against the most common such as woes

    • Flight
    • Water damage or fire
    • Physical damage (dropping out of the machine)
    • Hard drive crash
    • File system corruption (e.g. damaged partition table)
    • User error (for example of formatted the wrong partition)

A decent backup plan is based on the backup media being kept well away from the PC for most of the time.

Note also that expand them or shrink partitions is equivalent to open heart surgery. Make sure you have your important stuff saved beforehand. You should also check if the saved controls is actually readable.

  • removal of partition recovery by mistake how can I return it?

    Laptop of HP 2000 219dx

    Windows 7 home premiun 64

I have restore disk but does not start when I restart

    Hello

The only way to recreate the hard disk recovery Partition is to perform a factory reset (reinstall the OS) using your recovery discs - it recreates all the original scores.

Try the following to see if you can boot from your recovery discs - remember to backup all your files personal etc first.

Shut down the laptop.  Now on TAP the ESC key as soon as you press the power button to launch the start menu.  Select the Boot Manager option, open the drive and insert the first disk recovery and close the player, use the arrow keys to select the CD/DVD drive and press to enter.

    Kind regards

  • I created a partition (accidentally) and now I can't load Bootcamp at startup.

Here's the story. I tried to enlarge my Bootcamp partition, but I accidentally did was to create a THIRD partition of its own. I deleted this partition later, but now when I start the computer and hold down the "Alt/Option" I get two options: my Mac and a recovery drive - no more than Bootcamp. So, what's the problem? Here is a screenshot of what I did when I created this third partition:

I thought that I me adding to the 45 GB but I see that it was actually creating a new partition.

I still see Bootcamp in my finder and I can even see it when I click on "Startup disk" in system preferences.

But when I click on "Restart" on Bootcamp, it opens with an error: "no boot device - insert boot disk and press any".

So what did I problem and how can I fix it, guys?
