slow internet connection in Windows xp

I am running Windows XP on a computer advent portable Version 2002 SP2, processor 1 .50GHz, 224 MB of RAM with Norton Antivirus 2010. Connection to the internet is desperately slow. It comes to any Web site. If I boot with the internet cable already attached it may take up to an hour to connect; without cable, another application such as a spreadsheet or Word, to the well, program then work mudra stop just when the cable is inserted. Once logged into a site, I often get the message no response or slow response. Sometimes, after a certain time, improves the response and I can use internet as usual, although this fair deteriorates again. Manager tasks indicates nothing is pounding the CPU during this time, although there is a noise suggesting that the hard drive is very active. Any ideas would be appreciated.

224 MB of RAM isn't really enough memory to run Windows XP.  What is probably happening is that your RAM is get used to the top and you're overflow "Virtual memory" where the computer drive hard is used as the necessary RAM, it didn't.  This leads to an almost permanent access hard disk and slows down the computer to a virtual crawl.

Really, you should spend your RAM to 1 or 2 Gigabyte if it will manage your computer.

  • Slow Internet connection on Windows 7

I have Windows 7 Home installed in my HP laptop. Web brosing speed is too slow on the PC. I have a fiber optic internet connection which has max of 16 Mbps download speed. The internet speed is good and reaches sometimes up to 10 Mbit/s, while it barely reaches 2 Mbit/s in normal mode. Most of the programs I uninstalled, run the registry cleaner by Norton, Scanner Malware bytes, regularly updated Norton antivirus definitions. I also installed only a few program - MS Office 2010, Norton Antivirus, Real Networks, itunes and HP provided software preinstalled with the laptop. Internet activity is limited to a few Bank sites and youtube. Like all the anti virus scan, spyware scans were not able to detect any virus or spyware, I'm at a loss to find any reason for the slow internet speeds. The speed of the internet is amazing when I use my tab Thosibha or on my smart phone Sony. Any ideas please.

I have this noted in may 2013 and unfortunately do not have the restore point beyond June 2013.

  • speed up your internet connection in Windows 8

I've seen a lot of messages that mention users notice a slow internet connection more after moving to Windows 8 for the wired connections and wireless.

Many of these problems are due to drivers still set up for network cards.  However, there are a little more at stake.  Windows 8 has many built-in features that use internet connection permanently.  Specifically, I am referring to many of the 'live' on Metro user interface applications.  These include things like pulling photos from Facebook, update of headlines and weather updates.  To account for these features Microsoft allows Windows to reserve a percentage of bandwidth for these features.

It is less noticeable on connections faster broadband, but can be significant on slower connections.  Here are some things you can try to speed up the connection.

1 make sure you have the correct driver installed.

HP plans to support most of the laptops purchased after October 1, 2011.  You can check to see if HP has tested your laptop with Windows 8 by visiting this Web site.

Currently, many hardware manufacturers have drivers available.  However, the first step is to check that it is not a specific driver available for your laptop computer network hardware.  You will need to follow the following instructions locate the number for your product.  After your head number product on HP's Support site and see if there are all the drivers available.  If so, install the appropriate driver.  If this is not the case, bookmark the page and check back regularly for updates.

    2. turn off or lower the amount of reserved bandwidth.

As stated previously, Windows 8 automatically reserves a percentage of bandwidth for use with 'live' on Metro user interface applications.  First of all, you want to access the "Run" dialog box... ».  You can do this in the office or the metro by pressing Windows + X key combination and selecting 'run '.  You can type "gpedit.msc" and press ENTER.  On the left side, you will see "Configuration of the computer;" expand this list by clicking the arrow to the left.  Once this section is expanded you can select and expand "Administrative Templates" section, and then expand the "Network" section  Finally, you will see an entry called "QoS Packet" schedular, select this option.   After you select the QoS Packet Scheduler, you will see that the main part of the window has been set.  You will want to select "bookable bandwidth limit.    You can either reduce the percentage that is reserved or turn it off completely from here.  This should help speed up the internet connection.

I hope this information is useful!

  • Satellite L655D - slow Internet connection

I bought a new laptop because my old Inspiron 1501 has problems. The battery is dead, the R button does not work, the hard drive is 40 GB and the RAM maxed out at 2 GB. A Windows Vista.

So anyway my new laptop has 3 GB, more than 200 GB hard disk, Windows 7 Home Premium. Why so my new laptop slower than my old? The most annoying question is my internet connection. The new Satellite keeps cutting out. In addition, the downloads and uploads are very slow.

Here are the results of a speed test:
Old computer: download: 5.02 Mbps, 0.73 MB/s Upload, ping 100 ms
New Satellite L: download 0.09 Mbps, Upload 0.06 Mbps, ping ms 73

    Needless to say, I'm frustrated.

Laptops are spaced only 15 feet, and I done speed tests in the five minute intervals. I use a WIFI connection provided by my apartment complex. The old laptop is closer to the window, but the new Satellite L says that I have an excellent connection with five bars. Then I don't understand what the problem is.

    Hello

It seems that WLAN Card power saving mode is enabled and this could be the cause he slow performance... In my case that was the problem.

  • Second slow internet connection of the user

    Hello

I'm having a problem with the user accounts on my computer.
Recently, I decided to use the second user account I had, as my main so I made this account administrator. This is because the first main user that was admin had some problems with loading upward (would say that it was not loaded correctly, and after a search on this problem, I thought that this user has been altered) so after the second admin user, I moved all my files etc. However, although the second user account works fine, Internet connection takes awhile to load when I login to it and Internet browsing is much slower than the navigation, I experience on the other account.
I have not deleted the first user account (which now is not admin), but I'm not on it.
Someone could think of any reason why this could happen? This is because the former user still exists?  Or could it be something to do with the start-up on the second user programs?
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Very slow internet connection on Win 7 on SSD, but works very well with the OS on the HARD disk and the mode safe on SSD

Original title: network very slow connection on the current installation of Windows?

So my situation is that I have two disks (SSD and HDD) who both have a Windows installation.

Because this SSD is an I got free and is in used condition, I left my copy of Windows 7 intact on my mechanical failure of the SSD drive.

Now the question is, my internet connection is very, very poor, unless I run in safe mode, or the installation on my mechanical drive.

I use a wired connection, and our connection at home is limited to 120/10 mbit/s, while I have 5/10 at the most.

I tried to replace the LAN drivers of my motherboard (MSI FM2-A85XA-G43) using both the driver disc that was bundled with my motherboard, Device Manager and the official site of MSI, I also checked my entire system using Malwarebytes, which detected 7 threats and were abducted, nothing helps.

I also tried the DNS which did nothing either of hot flashes. Now notice what computer of my brother is also connected and works well.

Now as I type this, I discovered that my speed has suddenly got stable again out of the blue, but I'm skeptical it will remain, so I still want to ask what is / was going on here.

    Thank you for your time.

Sorry for the late response here, I've been very busy with the developments in the last days and completely focused on it.

More than a week has passed since the problem disappeared as if by magic, and so far I don't see the signs of what is going on again.

I think that the problem has passed away now, but if it arises again I will probably update this.

Thanks for all the suggestions and your time in this issue.
