slow laptop

I am running vista service pack 2, I think I'm under antivirus programs 2or3 I'm new to this, so I don't know how to check a lot of things, so my question, how do I know how many antivirus programs that I use? How can I make my laptop faster

Hello

You must have 1 antivirus program on the computer running much less at the same time.
Even the remains of those not completely removed can cause problems and twice if they are still
installed.

Post a list of all antivirus/antispyware/security programs and we can help to bring
sorted.

Vista and Windows 7 updated drivers love then here's how update the most important.

This is my generic how updates of appropriate driver:

This utility, it is easy see which versions are loaded:

-Free - DriverView utility displays the list of all device drivers currently loaded on your system.
For each driver in the list, additional useful information is displayed: load address of the driver,
Description, version, product name, company that created the driver and more.
http://www.NirSoft.NET/utils/DriverView.html

For drivers, visit manufacturer of emergency system and of the manufacturer of the device that are the most common.
Control Panel - device - Graphics Manager - note the brand and complete model
your video card - double - tab of the driver - write version information. Now, click on update
Driver (this can do nothing as MS is far behind the certification of drivers) - then right-click.
Uninstall - REBOOT it will refresh the driver stack.

Repeat this for network - card (NIC), Wifi network, sound, mouse, and keyboard if 3rd party
with their own software and drivers and all other main drivers that you have.

Now in the system manufacturer (Dell, HP, Toshiba as examples) site (in a restaurant), peripheral
Site of the manufacturer (Realtek, Intel, Nvidia, ATI, for example) and get their latest versions. (Look for
BIOS, Chipset and software updates on the site of the manufacturer of the system here.)

Download - SAVE - go to where you put them - right click - RUN AD ADMIN - REBOOT after
each installation.

Always check in the Device Manager - drivers tab to be sure the version you actually install
presents itself. This is because some restore drivers before the most recent is installed (sound card drivers
in particular that) so to install a driver - reboot - check that it is installed and repeat as
necessary.

Repeat to the manufacturers - BTW in the DO NOT RUN THEIR SCANNER device - check
manually by model.

Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.

http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/193584-Device-Manager-install-driver.html

If you update the drivers manually, then it's a good idea to disable the facilities of driver under Windows
Updates, that leaves about Windows updates but it will not install the drivers that will be generally
older and cause problems. If updates offers a new driver and then HIDE it (right click on it), then
get new manually if you wish.

Vista needs at least 1 GB memory to work properly (2 GB recommended), so if you have only 512MB, Vista runs very slowly, and you need to upgrade the memory.

  • Re: Very slow laptop

Hello, this has probably been posted CIHI thousands of times, but can t find a thread that connects directly to my problem.

I have a Toshiba basic laptop that is only 5 months old, but it's really slow. When I turn the laptop on, it takes about 15 minutes to connect to the internet, I know that it s not the Internet that's the problem as friends brought their computer round one bound to the wireless without any problem.

I always get the Toshiba note book recording ceased work reminder and I was wondering if this has nothing to do with it.

I don't use the computer for surfing the internet and took some vacation photos stored on there with a little music, so t may be that I don't have any space.

  • Very slow laptop

Hi, I'm having a lot of problems with my laptop HP G61 S.N. [personal information deleted]. Product; VY438EA #ABU. It is running Windows 7 and has an Intel Celeron processor.

He started running very slowly and took ages to bring up the pages as web pages and software. I tried to do a full scan using Kaspersky Internet Sec 2015 but there was no problems. The hard drive was only 50% fullso, it was not if. I tried the checkdisk function and all the features of tests on the machine. This allowed me to do the memory test that happened, but would not let me do the hard drive test. He was going to start but then after a few seconds she stop and return to the previous screen. I then did a factory reset, which is something I do here and there to empty the garbage, but this time, it took nearly five hours to complete the work. He has never been longer than before. Now when I turn it on it takes about thirty minutes to get up and running and is so slow to an absolute age to do anything.

Any ideas will be appreciated, regards, dannyd47.

Hi, just to let you know I have installed a new hard drive and reinstalled everything and it's all working perfectly so that was the problem. I thank very you much for your help, it was very appreciated. Best regards, Danny

    Kerri

    What version of Windows?

Select Start, all programs, accessories, System Tools, cleaning disk to emptying your trash, delete temporary Internet files and other selected options. I recommend also you click Other Options, System Restore and delete all but the last system restore point. Run Disk Defragmenter.

Using the system restore option is most appropriate when your system is slow and you need to increase the free disk space on your C partition. If you have errors that could be solved by using the system restore to your system settings back to before the error occurred initially do not use this option.

If more than one person uses the computer and they have their own user log you need to run Disk Cleanup in each user profile that you want to delete all the unwanted files.

A better program of disk cleanup is cCleaner. Delete System Restore points may be important if you have little free disk space. The ability to delete them is one of the tools options. You can selectively remove those created in less important moments.

cCleaner also comes with a registry tool. Do not use this tool as any registry cleaner could lead to the creation of very difficult to resolve system errors.

  • very slow laptop, formatted several times, always slow

My laptop used to work perfectly and quickly. However, lately it has been running terribly slow. I have reset the software to factory several times - still slow. I received a new standard ISO MS, (X 17-58997), cut on a dvd, reloaded the o/s.

It takes several days to load the o/s. Also, it took several attempts for a reason any. I had to delete all partitions, including the HP ones (sigh) stock, to get it in French - last night. However, it is still being slow extremmmmely. I removed the ram and tried different sticks - same thing. This may not be a software problem - can it? It must be hardware.

  • Cannot modify startup programs - very slow laptop computer at startup.

Hi my laptop is running slow at startup, so I thought I would "change the startup programs" via the control panel.

I get the message 'Windows Defender is disabled' then when I try to turn it on it freezes.

    I have Microsoft Security Essentials.

This question was asked several times but no answers that I can see.

    Thank you

MSE disables Defender by default, MSE has its own integrated version of Defender.

You can try this from Microsoft:

    http://TechNet.Microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx

This utility, which has a knowledge of auto-starting locations of any startup monitor, shows you what programs configured to run at system startup or login and that the entries in the order of processing windows. These programs include those in your startup folder, Run, RunOnce, and other registry keys. You can configure Autoruns to show other locations, including Explorer shell, toolbar extensions, helper objects to the browser, Winlogon notifications, auto and many start-up services even more. Autoruns goes way beyond the MSConfig utility bundled with Windows Me and XP.

    See you soon.

  • Extremely slow laptop

Hi, I have a Dell Laptop Inspiron 1300 I use in the store where I work.  He got to the place where is is extremely slow to start, open a browser and sometimes even locksup.

I went to the Dell view and ran the full derniŠre utility and everything happened but the 'line read test '.  When the desired content 'read the line' he would say "running" but would never be progess is omitted or passed. "  I then tested the HD only.  There are two tests.  Test the HD and HD stress test.  The HD passed the test of the HD, but when I run the test of stress of HD and he looked at the line 'reading' the same test as above has happened.

I guess that the HD is bad and he is about to die.

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Thanks for your help.  Problem solved.  Compensation settled and it fixed the problem.  I'm confused by the slow start.  But live and learn.

    Thanks again.

  • Slow laptop only when playing online games

    Hello
So I noticed that my laptop has become suddenly very slow BUT! Slow down its only when I play online games, it's going to be ok for the 1st 5 minutes but after that it will really slow down, his strange since I can watch videos on youtube, etc and surf the web without problem. But if I try the game it will be slow.
My specs are: Intel (r) Core (TM) i3 m350 2.27 GHz 2.26 GHz CPU
RAM: 4 GB with 3.80 GB usable
and the type of system is the 64-bit operating system
    I have windows 7
And no, it's not a connection problem.
Also my CPU usage when you play the game will no more than 54% (mainly bounces between 23% and 40%). and my ram is stable enough to 53%

I use google chrome, I noticed he blames only when I use chrome, its fine with firefox.

Going to uninstall chrome and download the latest version to see if that helps.

    Hello

What you wrote in your first assignment is the theme that we have on this forum for years. New laptops are slow. You can find old discussions on slow start or portable bad performance. There is nothing new.

To be honest my laptop with 'presets' was too slow.

When you get the new notebook you will get it with the factory settings. It is pre-installed with recovery image that includes the system operation, all necessary drivers, tools, utilities and some additional software. For example, the default installation of Windows updates is set to automatic. In other words, your system will detect the updates and install them without asking you. Can you imagine what happens with performance if updates of 10 MB will be downloaded and installed in the background without asking you? The HARD drive will be very busy and very slow laptop.

What you need is the optimization of the operating system. Remove all the unnecessary stuff from the system. Turn off all the unnecessary stuff start. Disable automatic update of windows.

Configure the preinstalled OS so that you simply use applications and background processes that you really need.

I did the same thing on my computer and it works much better than before. 5 months I've updated with SSD. Now, it goes very quickly and I can say with certainty: it was a very good investment.

  • Satellite C660 is slow - drive 'failure '?

Hello Forum - I hope someone can help.

My children (PC) run a C660-IST (two years). I say "run" - the machine is going at a snail pace. Confession - their father always worked on Apple (I know, I know...) then i@m beating everywhere to try to help them. With success limited.

I found called 'Computer' and he said:

    Hard drives (3)

    WINDOWS (C :)) 81.3 GB free of 149 GB
    Data (:)) free d GB 148 141 GB
    Microsoft Office 2010 click-toRun (protected) (q)

I had thought that children had simply filled memory working with games (Sims and Zoo Tycoon), but - looking at the available memory which doesn't seem to be the case.

So I ran the program 'Diagnostic Tool'. Everything was going well... until he ran the 'HARD drive '. And he says 'FAIL' in the box 'results '.

It's that I could get. Not sure why the result of the 'FAIL' is here. Don't know what the children may have done to the machine.

    Two questions:

-"disc HARD FAILURE" would cause the machine so slow?

    and

-What can I do to try to solve the problem?

Please, be soft with any response - PC management is NOT my forte!

    Thank you very much

    Helpless dad

    > "disc HARD FAILURE" would cause the machine so slow?

Yes, a faulty HARD disk can be the reason for the performance of the slow laptop.

    > can I do to try to solve the problem?

There are some things that need to be clarified.
If its a drive problem HARD physics, the only real solution is: replacing the HARD drive.
If the problem is related to bad sectors and files stored on the HARD drive, the solution could be much easier:
First of all I recommend you clean the system using CCleaner (freeware software)
You could delete the stored time.
Additional you may defragment HARD drive partitions.
Here is a nice article from Microsoft:
    http://www.Microsoft.com/atwork/maintenance/speed.aspx#fBid=opdomAEomx0

But if you notice any improvements, you can format the HARD drive and install the system using the Toshiba recovery disc.
