Sort order of files by name

Try this: connect in MSC mode and delete all files in *.dat hidden on the root directory of the device. It will be then "forget" what has been downloaded, then to Reanalyze everything. It will take time, but your files 'should' be in alphabetical order. Or, you could try installing Rockbox, an alternative firmware to third parties. But he firmware is still a glitch, so be prepared not always things work as expected.

  • How to stop a file from the application of a sort order on the files

Under Win XP, how can I have a folder of photos in my pictures are in the order that I copied them in Windows instead trying to sort by a file attribute, as the name.  Whenever I get close and reopen a file, Windows has sorted them rather than leaving them in the order I have left.  I want to see my photos in a defined order, without having to rename all the files.  If Windows MUST sort the files somehow, it is an attribute of file to apply a number of sequential file or another technique?

You can simply give up using windows Explorer, but use instead something more advanced like windows photo gallery.

This is useful, but it would be great if it was possible to have windows to keep the single file and not resorted to ALL files.  No there is no way to do this?

I am often merge sets of images and achieve only look one that certain images should go in a different order, that I copied them originally.  Maybe it's a way of to the point that the file is finalized, I could reset the Date of creation or the other attribute so that the suggestion of DatabaseBen would continue to operate?  I know there is a way to change the attribute Date of creation for all the same value, but then it would not be a way to sort on it at all, if the attribute was similarly?  I tried to assign the sorting order to an empty attribute, hoping that Windows would not use a second attribute for sorting, but it seemed to return filename for alphabetical sorting.

Thanks for any advice on this puzzle!

  • How can I sort my files by name, but the content by date?

I am on Windows 7 and trying to sort my files in the order of name and the contents of each folder in date order, but if I change IT automatically changes them both?  How to do this?

You can not in Vista - that option is not available.  The following items can help you with the setting folder models and change the sort order to some degree Vista allows:

Here's how to change the default template for a folder: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/70819-windows-explorer-folder-view-settings.html.  Default behavior is to select the model based on the first type of file placed in the folder (you must choose something).  Vista sets the folder type template according to what are the types of files in the window and the settings display window Explorer. This will show you how to reset the Windows Explorer folder view settings, disable Automatic folder Type discovery and increase the view of the folder cache to have Vista don't forget display settings, model of file type, size, or position of a specific window for when it was still closed to the location of specific path.

It does not work with the Sub record under, Open with, open in a new tab (Internet Explorer), etc... dialog windows of type through the good File menu bar item. These don't seem to be able to have their size or their position to recall. For the latter, you can use the free program http://autosizer.en.softonic.com/ to resize them.

Here is another article on how to modify the columns in Windows Explorer and sort in Vista: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/108665-column-customize.html.  This will show you how Add, Remove, move, change the widthand change the sort order of the columns in Windows Explorer in the way that you want.

Here is another article on how to change the display of the default folders in Vista (but she argues, it is not a perfect solution and can revert to the previous behavior is not as good as the two prior links provided: http://news.cnet.com/8301-13880_3-10019957-68.html.)

I hope this helps in your situation.

  • How can I sort my media file name of the project "icon view"?

Hi all. I am trying to sort my media in the 'Project' Panel while displayed his point of view 'icon' file name and it's not working (I am running first Pro CC on a Windows 7 machine).

I can sort very well in the project "List View" of the Group (by clicking on one of the headers, which is on the file header), but once I have switch back to "Display the icon" they lose their sort order (they seem to come to some sort of 'disorder' of the thing...)

I'm sure that my files are already sorted by file name when I click on the import button and access to view of Windows Explorer, but it does not help either.

Any suggestions? Thanks to you all.

    Hello people,

For some reason, my list of projects GB a blur.  They seem to be definitely classified by date. Select "Sort by name" is no longer works. (Or 'genre') I always kept the list in alphabetical order.

Workflow: when in Garageband, I choose "open an existing project. This brings me to my long list of projects. However, they are now listed by date and nothing that I can do the alphabetical list. What is the problem?

I tried Go to quit smoking and reboot imac. No help.

    Thank you

It is a mechanism OSX 'Open Dialogue' and "Save dialog box" and not necessarily a problem in GarageBand.

    Two questions:

    • Make you self the same behavior with other applications that have a dialog box open the file (Pages, text editing, etc.)?
    • When you navigate to a folder different iside the dialog box open, they allow you to sort files by name?

    Hope that helps

      • To configure Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 to use the method used by Windows 2000 for sorting files and folders, in the value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
      • To configure the default Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 method for sorting files and folders, in the value data box, type 0, and then click OK.

Note When the NoStrCmpLogical value does not exist or it is set to 0 (zero), the Windows XP default sort order is used.

    7. Exit the registry editor and restart the computer.

You want the first option 6.

  • Sort order for multi-CD audio books

Hello world. I read through some past discussions on the sorting of tracks and albums and have not been able to solve my problem. I have a 12 CD Audiobook; each CD has 99 tracks (ugh). All are taken from my computer and copied on a 8 GB MicroSDHC card. Sorry for the long post; hoping to capture as much detail as possible. My OS is Win XP. It is a rocket 4 GB with the troublesome file stored on 8 GB MicroSDHC card. Rocket is set to MTP and I moved the files via Windows Explorer... trained on my hard drive to the SDHC card (I did this twice; once while he was in the rocket and once while it is in the card reader).

    I used MP3Tag as follows:

    • File name AND title are on: book title disc 01 track 01, sequential numbering up to book title 01 99 of track record. Then we begin with the title of the book disc 02 track 01, etc all the way as a book drive 12 track 99
    • In MP3Tag, I used the Auto numbering Assistant to number the headings, including leading zeros, as 0001/1188 (this change has been made while the card was in the "rocket"; the first passage to the numbering on the hard disk, added only one zero, and I thought that could be the problem, so I ran the wiz autodial again while the card was in the "rocket").
    • Contributing artist, artist and Album name are the SAME (no drive included number) for each 12 discs... use MP3Tag to achieve
    • Removed the YEAR and the DISCNUMBER using MP3Tag.
    • All tracks are marked by the kind of AUDIO book (again using MP3Tag). They appear in the correct order on the hard drive of my computer, and read the SD via Windows Explorer, they appear in the correct order. However, when I browse audio books on my rocket, the sort order is out of whack. Systematically, it starts with title of book disc 11 track 11, is moving forward to drive 12, 99 of track, then disc 01, track 01. The rest seems to be in the right order.
    • Shots from the top of the window of MP3Tag, the file (in order) as the "rocket" 'sees' the first track (1001 to follow in the order, so it is important) screen my choices of dialogue can be seen here:

Other audio books are marked in this way and appear in the correct order... but none of the others has more than 9 discs. Thanks for all the ideas. It drives me crazy! : PEI

Just an update... as suggested by miltst, I made some changes on the base (on my HD) and then copied to the SD card files. The only changes I made were to change the numbering DO NOT track to track the total number of titles; I even added zeros. Once I moved their map SD, the sort order is correct. Hooray! Don't know what did - change the HD or changing the numbering of the beaches, but whatever it is, it works.

    Thank you!

  • Sort order of the desktop icon

I noticed that the sort order for the icons on my desktop is a little strange.  When I sort by alphabetically by name, they go through the alphabet once, then again in alphabetical order.  In other words, there are two sets of icons sorted in alphabetical order.  I had this problem on my previous PC, which ran from Windows XP.  Now that I have a new PC running Vista Home Premium, the problem persists.  Can I have some kind of installation or configuration problem?

I searched the Knowledge Base Microsoft and the Internet, for this problem, but found nothing.

    Thank you

What determines what type of folder is assigned a specific icon?  (The shortcut properties seem to indicate that property may have something to do with it.)

It is normally determined by the installer that created the shortcut in the first place.  Most software publishers are lazy and will place a single shortcut in % PUBLIC%\Desktop, which will appear on the desktop for everyone if you have multiple users.  Unfortunately, if a user removes the shortcut it will disappear from all the world office too.  The solution is to manually copy in all the individual desktop folder and then delete the original.

All of the shortcuts that you you do it manually (for example, by right - dragging a file to the desktop) will appear in your folder %USERPROFILE%\Desktop and therefore appear to you and not to other users.

Of course, if you are the only user on this computer, none of the foregoing is of no interest to you.  In this case, if you want everything sorted alphabetically, choose one of the two locations and manually move everything else.  Given that %PUBLIC%\Desktop is most software installation uses, it will probably be the best choice, by remembering that if you manually create the shortcuts, you must manually move them yourself or they will be out of use again.

Another thing to watch is installers of software that prompts you to install for 'all users' or 'me' (or words to that effect).  The option all users will put the shortcut to the Public folder. the just me option will use your user profile folder.

  • change the sort order in the photo gallery

I'm changing the sort that photo gallery displays my photos.  Right now, it appears it's their date/time display.  I want that they appear in the order of file name.  I changed the file names in the image library and selected "sort by", "name", "Crescent" and is sorts them properly in image library list, but when I opened the Gallery of pictures, it is always showing them by date/time order.  They show in a different order in the Gallery how they appear in the list of image library.  Can you help me?

Unfortunately, this is just one of the many shortcomings of the Photos app we
really has no options to change the sort criteria.

  • Custom sort order - creation of new Collection

I was reading this thread on the creation of a custom sort order - Lightroom - how do change you the order of Images, before you rename? Blog of "Julieanne Kost .

I work with a collection that contains subfolders, so I selected all the images, then tried to create a new collection. But when I click on the file, I see a choice for a new catalog, but not a 'new Collection '. There is a choice to "save quick Collection.» But when I choose that option, I get an empty folder with the name I have given.

So, how to create a collection?

P.S. I noticed I have a lot of empty folders. Is this OK to delete all the? I imported a folder full of subfolders of images, and I'm guessing that subfolders are imported, but the images have been taken out of them.

    Thank you.

  • Sort order of ACR

When I choose (from Photo Mechanic) a batch of raw images in Photoshop, they will open in ACR but are not sorted in the way that I expect. I want them to be sorted by time taken so when I can easily copy and paste the frame between similar images taken at the same time and name the files in the order taken to export.

I don't see any way to sort the order of the photos, I'm missing it somewhere?

    OK, it worked!

ACR is sort the files by name order. If you work with multiple cameras and the file names off-camera are close enough, it looks like some sort of chance. I have cameras where I changed the prefix of namespace on a per-camera basis so I see it is all shot by the camera 'A', 'B' and then 'C '.

My solution is to rename the files before sending them to the transformation by the cab. I usually do that last step and ACR save options. I can either rename the files once they are all "ingested" in Photo Mechanic and are in time order, or when I did the editing and have my selection to deal with. The latter is preferable because it involves only a change of name.

  • How to keep the sort order when you rename a collection?

I renamed a manually sorted Collection, but the sort order changes. Is it possible to maintain the order of the files when a Collection is renamed?

In my view, the bridge works correctly implemented. Kinds of collection seem to be kept in a directory UserSort that contains an index and sort sequence list files. In win 7, it's . Entries in the file index.xml include the name of the collection and point to the xml file UserSort containing manually sorted sequences.

A workaround solution you could try: go to the UserSort/Index.xml file find your former name of collection (.filelist) and change it to your new collection name.
