Sorting of the search results in Windows 8 by name or by date

Well, I'm one of those who really hate Windows 8.  Sorry but it's true.

I'm looking for an easy way to sort the files that I get after using the charm of 'finding '. I have a ton of word and excel documents on my computer and some are very similar or contain similar information.

When I search for a file, I get the blocks of kindergarten that displays all files, but I can't sort by date or by alphabetical order so I have to watch all the tiles and try and find the right, instead of Windows 7 simplified where I'd get a nice detailed list.

Is there a way to sort my research in 8?  It's driving me crazy and causing me to curse heavily.

Thank you!

Hello

Windows 8 is still all about choice.

Why not use the same search in Windows 7?

Open File Explorer.

Select the drive or folder to search.

Enter your search keywords in the search box.

The search toolbar will appear with options to customize the results.

You can even save the search for later use.

  • The search results in Windows Explorer not always highlighted.

Windows Explorer in Windows 7 is just great!

But why is not always highlight the results of research (especially the Word documents) is beyond me.

In a typical search result list displays some highlighted, others do not. Why is this?

The highlight appears only if it exactly matches your search term.

  • Ability to sort the search results by photo / illustration / vector

Please bring back the ability to sort the search results by photo / illustration / vector. I am a graphic designer and I buy hundreds of Adobe Stock images. Until a few days ago, I was able to search through the photos / illustrations / vectors separately, which was extremely helpful. This feature is now gone, and everything is image or video. Please bring it back! Thank you.

  • I use google search. When I click on a suggestion contained in the results tab of the search, I want it to open in a new tab and keep the search results in the original tab. How?

For example, when I enter the search term "cabinets" and get a page/tab search results with suggestions such as Sears, JCPenney, or Amazon, I want to be able to click on Sears and open the Sears page in a new tab/page. I want to be able to close the tab to Sears and use the search results tab.

Google offers a framework for this. What it does, it adds a HTML (target = "blank") statement to every result link, which causes Firefox to open in a new tab. If you uncheck the preference to divert new windows in new tabs, Firefox will then open the result in a new separate window.

This preference is stored in a cookie, if you clear your Google cookies often, so you'll need to reset every time. You can do so here:

(On this page, Google refers to a new window.)

  • If I delete a file in the search results pane, am I actually delete the file or just the result of search?

I'm a bit confused about the Windows XP search results pane.  I need to winnow down remove some of the documentation noted that the results do not apply.  If I remove them in the search results pane, am I actually remove the document from the PC or just delete the search result and leave the document in its original file?

    Hello

You delete the file. Try it yourself...

    • For example, create a document with a unique name (say qwerty987.doc) word
    • Search all files and folders to qwerty987
    • Right-click on the file in the search results, and then click Open containing folder
    • Research of two results of window and the window of the folder containing the visible file (resizing and movement to achieve, as appropriate)
    • Remove the test file in the search results window and watch it disappear from the other window too

    Tricky

  • Photos deleted in the search results.

I deleted a folder containing .jpgs from off of my C drive... Yet the images still show upward when I search the drive for .jpgs... Why are they still displayed in the search results when the folder no longer exists. If I try to remove the pop up box shows that the folder does not exist and asks me if I want to create... No, if I wanted the pictures I have wouldn't have deleted. Now, they're just cluttering my search results... How can I get rid of them for good?

  • Influence the movements of the mouse on the search result

    Hello

I noticed that when I use the search in the start menu: Start-> 'Query' button-> Enter, the result I get will depend on if I moved my mouse between the seizure of the search query and press ENTER.

If I move the mouse the result the research opens in Explorer, view all the results found

If I move the mouse, the item at the top of the search results pop-up window is highlighted (Selected) and therefore opening if I press Enter.

The above seems like a very bad designed usability and I guess that it is not the intention?

    Best regards

    Morten T Nielsen

It does not matter on your mouse.  This is important if there is a corresponding program.  Because article 1 must always be stressed if there is a matching program that match your search criteria.

    Example:

    1. If I type Ham (name of my boss), there is no correspondence program (but he adapt emails and files).  Thus, the highlighted option is "see more results", and it is what happens if I press Enter.
    2. But if I type calc (or even part, as just 'ca'), she sees twinning programs and highlights one.  In this way, you can press ENTER to immediately start the program you want.
  • How to fix the search function in Windows 7

I just bought a new HP laptop with Windows 7 64 bit and am ready to throw it out the window.  The search function is the worst.  He is unable to find files containing search terms - only discovered the files whose file NAMES containing the search terms.  It does not define the search parameters as did Windows XP.  How can I keep/use the search function of Windows XP?  Y at - it a patch?  A fix?  An add-on software that I can use?  Microsoft warns that if you try to uninstall Windows 7 and try to install Windows XP, your computer may become "unusable".  Search results are inaccurate - I use it for work and I can't have a search function that does not work as XP did or get wrong results!  I've already indexed all of the computer and 2 sessions of chat with people from HP support.  Nada. I don't have to become a geek simply search my files.

  • Click on search for result code doesn't display the line containing the search results

I use the latest version of DreamweaverCC2014 on the latest version of Mac Mavericks. I use Dreamweavers find and replace to find code in an open html document. In the search results Panel results aren't clicking on me at the relevent code line in the document. It used to work well in the previous version of DW, I was using.

In the DW help note it is said: ' display the results of a particular search in context: select window > results to display the search panel. " Double-click on a line in the search panel. If you are looking for the current file, the Document window displays the line containing that search result. ' http://helpx.adobe.com/Dreamweaver/using/Text.html#search_for_and_replace_text

Double-click does not display the line containing the result of the search for me. It seems to work OK in my CSS files, but not in HTML longer (1010 lines).

Any advice? Someone at - it the same problem? Thank you

I have the same problem with all the HTML files that have external style sheets. for example .

So it seems to be a bug around that. When you delete the above, double click functionality works.

  • Messages in the search results does not and can not be found

I run a local search in the search box in the top right of the email. There are three messages. I click on any of the three messages and message list screen is displayed, but the message is not listed.

Is it possible to determine where these three messages are stored? They apparently still exist somewhere, but I can't find them.

I can look for other keywords, and the search function works fine. Somehow, these three messages are stored somewhere dark.

Thanks for any advice you can provide.

Additional information: the left sidebar of the search results indicates that messages are in a folder that I created in local folders, but this file is not there.

  • How can I have the search results in a new tab?

When I search something, regardless of the search engine used, the search results appear in the "active" tab Is there a way to configure Firefox to open a new tab and show the results of the research in this new tab automatically? Yes, I can do it manually by opening a new tab, to do research, but it would be much more "user friendly" it would be automatic.
I use an Apple Mac Pro running Mac OS x 10.7

To avoid extra keys or the steps and make the option to open search results in a new tab (or not) easy and convenient, install this add-on:

As long that the checkmark next to "Open in a new tab", a new tab opens to the search results. Click the icon in the search bar, far left and click "Open in a new tab" to check or uncheck this option.

  • When I search something and click the Web site in the search results, I get nothing and the tab says something like "nclk (Image GIF 1 x 1 pixel)" what should I do to display the Web page?

I just switch to Firefox this morning, but I used it in the past. I set Yahoo as my homepage, and it opens fine when I start Firefox but if I type something in the search bar, such as Wal-Mart or ebay it will display the search results, but when I click on the page I want to open, I get something like "nclk (Image GIF 1 x 1 pixel)" on any of the Web pages I have to choose. If I put www.walmart.com in the address bar, it works fine. What should I do?

Using Kaspersky? This error is usually caused by a parameter in Kaspersky. In the Kaspersky Firewall section, under filter turn off the blocker of banner advertising (may be called anti-banner).

  • "black square shrinking" appears when some the search results for "Array Constant" are double-cliquée.

In the process of troubleshooting an issue of size of table, I did a Ctrl + F search after selecting a constant matrix.  I find a large number of raster constants in the search results.  However, many of these results (most behaves normally), if the item in the search results has double-clicked, momentary displays a black square, about the size of a standard icon, which immediately reduced to nothing.  There is no indicator selection outline.  I used this nice ShowAllControls & TabCtrl .vi utility to display all the controls, but nothing appears in this place.

Someone has encountered this?  So far, it's just a nuisance. I am not free to view the code that was developed by a third party.  I would like to make a screenshot, but the black square disappears too quickly.
