Space disk in VMware player management and virtual machines

I have VMware Player installed on a computer with Windows 7.  I installed VMware Player on the C drive where Windows resides. I have a VM installed, which is Ubuntu 10.4LTS.  My hard drive is 250 GB.  DRV is about 47GB and about 9 GB is free.  The rest of the hard drive is not allocated.

If I install any addition of VM, looks like I may need to extend C to enlarge.  Or, if I add the partitions via the host OS, i.e. of Win 7, can I appoint a different partition during the installation of another virtual machine?

I hope I have it clear.  If this isn't the case, please ask for clarification.

Also, could I have installed VMware Player on one partition other than C

When I initially installed it?

You can uninstall VMware Player WITHOUT damaging your existing virtual machines.  Then you could go ahead and create a new partition and then re-install VMware Player, then move the virtual machines on the new partition and then reopen.

  • To cut and paste between Mac and Virtual Machine

My husband and I have VMware Fusion installed on our MacBooks. We use it to run WIndows XP.

  • 7 - fusion '3D Acceleration requires an update of the VMware tools in the Virtual Machine'

    Hello

I installed the free Fusion 7 trial this week on my iMac and subsequently installed Windows 8.

The resolution of the screen under Windows is very low compared to the Mac OS.

In addition, I have the warning message in the Windows display settings:

'3D acceleration requires an update of the VMware tools in the Virtual Machine'

I also note that the display driver in Windows is the display driver database with Microsoft.

A few weeks ago I installed version 6 of Fusion and it worked very well.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you

    John.

Take a look at the installation and the use of the VMware tools and more spicifically to manually install or upgrade VMware Tools in a Windows Virtual Machine.

If by chance, VMware Fusion is not properly mounting image VMware Tools windows.iso file then you have to do it manually.  It is located in "/ Applications/VMware Fusion.app/Contents/Library/isoimages/windows.iso" and will have to be copied, not moved, in a location that is accessible out of the bundle of VMware Fusion.app as the office.  If you need to do this, you can right click on the bundle of VMware Fusion.app see the content of the selection box and access its location to copy.  To assign the windows.iso on the CD/DVD image, take a look at: Connect and Set Up a CD/DVD Drive

  • Difference between the hosts and virtual machines

    Happy new year!

I guess that's a stupid question, but I don't know the answer to it.

I created pools from VM. Some jobs in the pool are hosts and some virtual machines. What is the difference between the hosts and virtual machines. I thought I could only create virtual machines, but I guess I could create hosts as well. -What happened?

    Thanks for your help.

where does say desktops are hosts?  A host is usually referring to an ESXi server.  A virtual machine is just the guest OS running on the host computer.  A pool is a group of VMs that can extend over several hosts.

  • VMWare Player installation and Installation of the software in the virtual disk

    Hi people,

I installed VMWare game in the free Version. I want to use the virtual disk for a Windows XP operating system. I have the following question for my main system (8.1 Windows 64 bit system stand-alone system).

    1.

I installed a Windows XP 64-bit with SP 2 system. In this virtual disk, I installed a software that needs several software components. I managed to install all the components, but one. This component is WindowsInstaller-KB893803-package x 86 lot. If Intry to install the following error notice appears: "Ce KB893803v2 is for a different hardware platform." How can I make this software to obtain the virtual hardware information (i.e. not information of the current build-in components for Windows 8.1).

    2.

While I did all the settings in Windows XP SP2 in the virtual disk on 'German' keyboard assignment is American. How can I change this?

    3.

I have a 64-bit Windows 8.1 system on my computer (I think it said 'Host system'). Can I install a Windows XP 32-bit system in the Ramdisk anyway?

Please answer in detail. I thank in advance for your answers.

    Kind regards. Mainze

Don't worry too much on the OS host and/or physical hardware like handles of VMware Player, which is required to run Supportepar OSes as guests, for the most part, a layer of virtualized hardware.  Windows XP 32-bit should work fine in VMware Player on your 64-bit Windows 8.1 host.

  • VMWare Player, NAT and firewall

    Hello

I'm running VMWare Player 7.1.2 with Windows 8.1 as host and Debian Linux as a target.  I want to run the network card in NAT mode for the isolation it provides to Linux.  I have tightened my windows machines and thus, set windows firewall to block all outbound connections except those covered by specific rules.  When I turn this firewall does not block OFF, NAT network works fine, when I turn it on, NAT does not work.  I tried to add each firewall rule, that I can think of, such as the possibility of vmnat, VMnetDHCP and vmware-authd, as a program and a service.  The rules, which I configured include all ports and protocols.  No rule allows traffic NAT of VMWare Player.

    Thoughts?

    OK, I found a solution.

First of all, I would say that I use the Windows Firewall, not McAfee etc.

The crux of the problem is that there are two instances of vmnat.exe on my machine.  The first is in the VMWare Player folder (as I predicted), and the second is in \Windows\SysWOW64.

    * Opening a rule for the program in VMWare Player, for all services, does not work.

Opening of rule for Windows (which is defined as the SysWOW64 version) services, for all programs, does not work.

    * However, the opening of a rule for the program in SysWOW64, for all services, works.

It's weird, because the player is definitely using Windows services, because it if you stop, the machine virtual loose connectivity, but create a firewall rule for the Department is insufficient.  Instead, I have to define a rule based on the programs and point to the exe file that is managed by the service.  No other firewall rule is necessary.

I do not fully understand, but it's the solution to my problem.

  • How to run windows 7 x 64 vmware player in servers virtualized under esxi5.5

I have a server I want to virtualize.  A run P2V and converted.

There is a vmware player windows 7 which does not work on the server because it is said that long Mode is not taken in charge.

On the host: esxcfg-info responds with "3 - VT/AMD-V indicates that VT or AMD - V turned on in the BIOS and can be used '. '"

Is it possible to run this configuration?

    Thank you

I'm sorry.  I should have raised my X 7350 earlier.  The X 7350 does not support the EFA and is therefore not able to support VT-x/EPT virtualized.  You need at least a class of Nehalem system.  In addition, your host looks like it is in a cluster based VCA Merom.  If the host is in an EVC cluster, the EVC cluster must be at least a basic line of Nehalem for virtualized VT-x/EPT support.

  • VMware Fusion 6 Professional - where is the possibility of locking VMware using a single virtual machine and do not allow the creation of new virtual machines?

This is a quote from the VMware Fusion Professional 6 product page:

VMware Fusion 6 Professional comes with IT administration tools to help you deploy VMware Fusion using Apple or a management solution third Mac as of JAMF's Casper Suite. Further reduce the cost of support of Windows desktop using the mode of single virtual machine that limits user access to the library of the Virtual Machine, the ability to create virtual machines or migrate PCs and reduces the options of the menu.

Where can I find these IT administration tools?  I want to block my VMware users to a single virtual machine so that they can not blow by creating new virtual machines, etc.

    How can I do this?

    Thank you!

    Glitch004,

You could follow the steps to activate the single mode of VM:

    1. turn power off all running VMS and out the merger.

    2. Add the following line to/Library/Preferences/VMware Fusion / config

    installerDefaults.simplifiedUI = 'TRUE '.

3 restart merger and you will find:

. VM library is hide in the VM menu.

. only one virtual machine can be used, while click second VM Fusion of the reports ' Unable to open document. "

  • VMware Player uses a virtual switch or hub?

I develop custom computer technical training and must be able to capture the packets network between multiple virtual machines.

Microsoft's Hyper-V product implements a true virtual switch, so I don't see not all packets that are not addressed to the virtual machine that is running the sniffer of packets on.  Enabling promiscuous mode does not benefit me anything.

If I switch to VMware Player, I would be able to see all the packets through the virtual network?

    Thanks in advance,

    Jesse

Product documentation VMware generally uses the term virtual spend however they are not the real switches and should really be called a virtual hub.

  • Attempt vSwitch configuration change and now the ESXi host and virtual machines offline

So I have no doubt, I have myself to blame for this one. I was trying to change my vSwitch from 100 Mbps to 1000 Mbps when an 'operation timed' error out jumps-to the top and my vCenter Server lost connection with my ESXi host. I tried to restart the host manually, but that did not help. The host is not the ping requests and all the virtual machines on that host are offline; None of them vMotion off to my other ESX Server.

I tried to reconnect the host computer in vCenter, but it is obviously does not connect because it can't ping it. I logged the ESXi console and all the network settings appear to be correct. I'm used to connect to the ESX console where you can execute commands, but it's my first ESXi host, so I don't know what I can do.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    -D.

If you had your management port and VMs on different vSwitches / NIC leave on framework would eliminate a false positive. As in your case the management port reportedly follows the cable / about speed, but the virtual machine network would be intact (and I'm assuming that your storage space as well).  In this case the VMs system would have worked very well even if the management port did not work.

  • ESX, ESXi and vCenter and virtual machines

Hello all - I need to re - certify my VCP this month so I decided to sit down this weekend to set up a virtual lab.  I managed to get ESX, ESXi and vCenter working all in s vm on my laptop in less than 4 GB.  I use Player version 3 for now.  I have Workstation 6.5 but I have to spend my VCP to get a key of 7 workstations and improve it.

The manual is a bit long, but here is the link if you are interested.  I'll update everything to Workstation 7 after my review.  I hope that some of you find it useful!

    Nice - Thanks for posting.

I doubt that you must update for Workstation 7 as VMplayer 3 is nothing else than a torn Workstation 7. It has the same basic functionality.

So, nothing will be different if you use Workstation

By the way - Starwind is really nice simulate a San.

Another interesting thing, that you know may not...

It is possible to assign up to 8 GB of RAM to your virtual ESXs, even if the host itself has only 4 GB of RAM.

    For this I have

    prefvmx.useRecommendedLockedMemSize = 'TRUE '.

    prefvmx.minVmMemPct = '5 '.

in the file config.ini from the host. Do not run and then

Using this trick, I was able to run 4 ESX virtual machines on my laptop 4 GB RAM running 2 k 3-32 bit host

Hello, I hope someone can shed some light on this problem.

I have an ESXi host.  It is in the 'AREA A' and has an IP address like 204.75.225.6.

Is it possible to use the tool VMware P2V Converter some servers that are located in one field other than ESXi host and have different IP addresses?

Example: VM candidate: in "AREA B" with IP address 192.168.1.56.

    Both domains trust each other.
