sphere 4.0 and vsa version virtual machine

Hello

I ve got 2 servers dl580 with local storage using hp lefthand vsa.

everything works fine.

all of my virtual servers windows are ok and configured as a machine virtual version 7

My 2 vsa´s run configured as machine virtual version 4.

is - this important set the vsa´s as the verion 7?

Thnaks in advance

for our case, us upgrade it to version 7 of material for our implementation. I advise you to do so just to be "updated" Although there is no advantage because of VSA (which is a very striped BONE down).

  • Commands to start and stop a virtual machine hosted by VMware player

Where can I find the commands to start and stop a virtual machine hosted by VMware player on a host Windows Server 2008 R2 (64-bit)?

I need to start and stop the virtual computer from a script as I could do this by selecting the ' power on ' and his 'guest stop' or at least 'power off' options of the GUI of VMware player.

If a control interface is not available, is available if I update to VMware Workstation?

With the player, the VIX API is a separate download (on the same page you downloaded the install drive in), so I guess you will have to install the separate package to use it.  But it's pretty easy to do...

  • VMware HA and recovery of virtual machines (not to restart them)?

    Hello

I need help clarify something with VMware HA.

When I do manually our primary ESXI host, the VMs appear and restart on the secondary host.

Yes virtual machines are restarted automatically, but it does not resume the virtual machine without interruption as DRS and provides that vMotion.

Is there a way I can configure HA to not restart and resume the virtual machine in place without interruption?  If not, what are my other options I can configure in VMware ESXi do exactly, if any?

    Thank you very much

    Jan

HA is used in the event of a host failure, so there is no chance to migrate a workload (curriculum vitae) to another host. What you are asking for can be achieved with FT (Fault Tolerance) where a secondary VM is created on a different host and basically synchronized with the primary virtual machine. In case of failure of the primary virtual machine VM school can resume (almost) without interruption.

  • Monitoring and network of virtual machine failure alert

I'm trying to set up an email alert when one of our VMS lose network connectivity. I'll try the following settings, but I don't receive any alerts when I kill the network connection.

    • Alarm type: Virtual Machine
      • Monitor for specific events occurring on this suybject...
    • Trigger: VM No. network access
    • Status: alert

I tried the same settings with a different event (for example on and power off the power) and I get an alert message each time. But with network access I get nothing. For the test, I have reset the INVESTIGATION period (so there is no network activity), I disabled the NETWORK card and I tried to disable the NETWORK adapter in the settings of VMware.

Nothing alert? Essentially, I jut want an email when any of my virtual machines happen to lose access to the Internet for a reason any.

    Thanks for any help.

Another note: I also tried to use different drivers Ethernet, with no luck.

Decided to use only ONE Veeam.  Their free version offers sufficient data and monitoring.  Seems that monitoring network is a deficit of VMware.

  • Running under Windows 98 and more on virtual machines?

    Hello

I am wandering how I would go about installing and running Windows 98 and more on a virtual machine, if that is at all possible. Also if it is possible what is the oldest that we can run on a virtual machine?

It's just for fun and I'm kind of feeling nostalgic lol. I am aware that the new and latest OS is Windows 10 I have and like you.

I am currently a student at CompTIA now and think practically I realize that the chances of ever falling on a user with Windows 98 are extremely low.

I saw a show called Winworld PC that I can have a look at. However, I also wanted to check to see if you guys have any other recommendations.

    Thank you.

  • the back and are not virtual machines running on Isilon

    Hello vExperts.

Could someone please share the details of the back and to not execution of virtual machines on EMC Isilon...

We have a problem of IOPS / serious storage s, don't have just enough time zones and no money in the budget for more, but we have an Isilon with certain capabilities, I don't have all the details in front of me that I write this message about what nodes and others look like but soon as I have them I will add them in the post.

For now, if someone wants to throw me some knowledge around deployment of virtual machines on Isilon before blindly go us in that direction that would be great

Thanks for you input in advance!

In short: not to run virtual machines on Isilon.  Been there, done that, didn't like it much at all.  You will cause you grief.

We tried with KVM and ESXi and neither works well. EMC has tried to run, but even their its saying not to.

I love Isilon but not not for hosting virtual machines.

    Hello

find the code of an action that loops through all the devices of a given virtual computer and returns an array containing the keys of the device below. You can then use it in a decorator for the workflow to let the user select a drive.

    See you soon,.

    Joerg

    var devices = vm.config.hardware.device;
    var diskCount = 0;
    var diskArray = new Array();

  • Make a VM use a NIC and all other virtual machines use another?

Hello, I'm trying to understand how do a virtual computer using a NETWORK card, while all my other reviews VMs share another. Having a hard time to identify ways to implement. Someone knows how to do this?

I've attached a screenshot of how my network is currently configured, if that helps.

    Thank you

    C

You can create another group of ports say "VM network 2" and set the grouping of NETWORK adapters active vmnic1 and vmnic0 standby (in front of your current setting). Then add this virtual machine to the network of computer virtual 2. This allows switching between the two network cards. If you want to have the assistance of a NETWORK card all the time, just put a active and other "unused" in a single port and opposite group in the other group, or at the level of the switch. Port group strategy note may substitute the switch level policy.

  • vCenter storage iSCSI 5.5 and shared between virtual machines

I have just two 2012 Win computers virtual server in the cluster.  I've prested my iSCSI LUNS and the ESX host can see them and I might add in order to become a data store.

My VMs Win2012 need to share the storage for a cluster SQL database.  I have never done this and everything I tried at this point has failed.  I tried to create the ROW, but that only worked to connect it to a player on one of the virtual machines.

I'm sure this is possible, but I'm not even sure where to look.  Is it really that RDM is for or is there another way?  Looks like I have would be sufficient to use the initator iSCSI in Windows to connect to my SAN but that would probably slow.

    Any help would be great!

Yes it can be done - have you seen http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-55/topic/com.vmware.ICbase/PDF/vsphere-esxi-vcenter-server-55-setup-mscs.pdf

I would now like to replace the $VMlist variable and put rather information eVM th to a .csv file.  Any suggestions?

    Hello

assuming this is your csv file

        "name","ip","netmask","gateway","dns","networkName" "TESTSRV1","10.244.186.136","255.255.255.0","10.244.186.1","10.244.37.25;10.244.37.26","VLAN186_QA"

you have a problem. Impossible to save all the tables in a csv file and do powershell natively recognize them.

Instead, use a delimiter custom (not the same csv uses!) and split - to import - in a table. Look at the semicolon between two dns servers.

    $newVmList = import-Csv test.csv | Select-Object - property 'name', 'ip', 'mask', 'bridge', @{Name = "dns"; {Expression = {$_ .dns-split ';'}}, "networkName".

The object resulting looks like this

        name : TESTSRV1 ip : 10.244.186.136 netmask : 255.255.255.0 gateway : 10.244.186.1 dns : {10.244.37.25, 10.244.37.26} <-- Array networkName: VLAN186_QA

  • root password back on empty and disappear the virtual machines

We arrived after the weekend and our virtual machine wasn't so I tried to log in the infrastructure client and the password did not work.  We tried to leave the empty password and it connected with root.  Then we saw that our virtual machine did not appear in the inventory list.  The data store still exists on the computer with the files that it contains.  That's happened?  How can I get it back?

    Welcome to communities

I couldn't tell you what happened. There has been cases with a new installation where the configuration is not saved but be?

If you are looking for your virtual machine, the data store and do a right-click on the VMX file and select Add to inventory, you will get your machines virtual return.
