SQL Server 2008 R2 Express connecting remotely on Windows 7

I configured SQL Server 2008 R2 Express for the remote connection (MS SQL Server Management Studio/instance properties/connections/allow remote connections to this server;) Services SQL server and SQL Server Browser are running; TCP/IP is enabled). Firewall is disabled on all 4 PCs involved, having Windows 7. In any case, I have a problem with the remote connection to the instance of SQL Server of 2 books of PCs. connection remote on the local PC and a remote one, on which I could not find any difference with others. I tried two named instance and IP address. I tried to configure TCP/IP for the SQL Server Configuration Manager, by putting the TCP/IP 1433 port and by removing the dynamic TCP Ports under IPALL, without effect.

Help, please!

    Just, I solved the problem I had.

    It turns out, there, there were two questions... first concealing the second.

    SQL Web browser has not been activated.  solution: in properties SQL server configuration manager, transformed the startup to automatic mode and activated the service.

    Microsoft Visual Studio project property targetdatasourcefolder had a server name that precedes the name of the folder. Removed the name of the server.  This works.

    Everything unfolds right now.

  • After an edition upgrade to SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard, vSphere cannot communicate with the VIM_VCDB database

    My vCenter environment is 5.0 and has been initially implemented using SQL Server 2008 R2 Express as the database.  We have reached the limit of size of 10 GB for the Express version, so I want to upgrade the database 2008 R2 express 2008 R2 standard.

    Before the upgrade, I stopped the vCenter Server service before you start the SQL Server Setup program.  I did an "Upgrade Edition", to consider express standard.  It ends successfully with 2 minutes, and then I went and restarted the server vCenter service.

    However, after restarting the service, vSphere is unable to communicate with the VIM_VCDB.  For example, in vSphere if I click a virtual machine and click the performance tab, it tells me that it's impossible to view the web page.  It seems to be unable to communicate with the VIM_VCDB.  I have not changed all database names, or the ODBC settings, so not sure what is causing the problem.

    If I go to ODBC data sources administrator and test the Data Source, the test completes successfully.

    I have read all the documentation I could find and tried a few different things, but not found something that solves this problem.  I ended up having to go back to the snapshot backup, I took before the upgrade of the database edition.

    Anyone have any ideas on what the issue might be, or what should I do to solve it?

    Shane

    The database is probably fine.

  • Services for SQL Server 2008 Express are not listed. No error message when installing.

    Hello community,

    I installed SQL Server Express 2008 (without SP but with SQL Management Studio) on a Windows XP 2002 SP3 32-bit. Used to install operating system user is a member of the administrator group
    The SQLManagementStudio_x86_ENU.exe installation file was downloaded from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=7593 . Express Edition has been selected during the installation. All prior checks have been adopted (with the exception of 1 and 2 does not apply). I chose this version with management tools that I will need them for a quick change at a later stage.

    Then I installed on SQLServer2008SP1-KB968369 - x 86 - ENU.exe, which is the general Service Pack 1 for SQL Server 2008, which has been downloaded from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=20302. All prior checks have been adopted (with the exception of 1 and 2 does not apply). The installation window title was SQL Server Service Pack 1. In the step select the components, I had no other choice than the selection of shared components / basic management tools. To the right of the screen, it says "Express with Advanced Services" edition / Patch level: 10.0.1600.22

    It ended with a message saying that your SQL Server 2008 upgrade completed successfully. The information contained in the mentioned log at the end of the installation displays no error message.

    Here is the troubled part

    Then I tried to install a different SW that has SQL Server 2008 SP1 as a sine qua non. What he did not. Then I rebooted and wanted to see what version was indeed installed.

    Control Panel - Add/Remove software : 5 entries, Microsoft SQL Server 2005 backward compatibility / Microsoft SQL Server 2008 / Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Native Client / Microsoft SQL Server 2008 political / setup of Microsoft SQL Server 2008 supports files (no mention of SP1, can this be correct?)
    Control Panel - Services : there is no service of any kind that has SQL Server on its behalf. This is very probably a major problem, a google for that advice that there should be more of them
    Regedit - HKLM - SW-MS - MS SQL Server - 100 - Bootstrap Release - current Version : 10.1.2531.0 (Diffferent than SP1, think?)
    Cmd - osql-u its Pei : named pipes provider: could not open a connection to SQL Server [2]. / Login timeout expired

    I reboot several times since then.
    I don't know the status of the installation before installing the SP1, I knew I'd need SP1 anyway.

    I suppose that services SQL Server issue resolved would be a big step forward.

    Anyone has an idea on what I could check?

    Thanks in advance, Laurent

  • Failed to connect to the user when it connects to SQL Server 2008 R2 gateway

    Hi - This is my first post!

    I have problems to connect to a SQL Server 2008 R2 to Oracle database 11 g R2 database, use the product of the gateway.

    Previously, he has worked, but we moved the database SQL 2005 to 2008 (R2).

    We receive this error while trying to query through the link (Select * FROM DUAL@ADSRD)

    ORA-01017: name of user and password invalid. connection refused

    [Oracle] [ODBC SQL Server driver] [SQL Server] Failed to connect to the user 'SQLUSER '. {NativeErr 28000, = 18456} [Oracle] [ODBC SQL Server driver] Invalid connection string attribute {01 S 00}

    The DG4MSQL configuration is here:

    HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO = //SSU_PRD_APP/IntegrationStagingDb [BSYS-sql2]

    HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL = OFF

    HD_TRANSACTION_MODEL = READ_ONLY

    #HS_FDS_DELAYED_OPEN = FALSE

    HS_FDS_FETCH_ROWS = 100

    HS_OPEN_CURSORS = 50

    The database is hosted in its own instance on the sql2-BSYS Server

    Then... on the SQL Server event logs returns this:

    Failed to connect to the user 'SQLUSER '. Reason: Failed to try to connect using SQL authentication. Server is configured for Windows authentication only. [CLIENT: 192.168.10.179]

    However, the SQL Instance IS configured to enable mixed mode authentication.

    I can't work on what I missed, and I can confirm if I'm actually to a compatibility issue between the gateway and the version of SQL server, that we are now trying to connect.

    Help please!

    Is the user name in your SQL Server database in the capital, mixed mode letters or small letters?

    Currently, you have created a database link that tries to authenticate on the server SQL using SQLUSER in capital letters. If you use mixed or small letters, so be sure to write the user name (and password) as it is in the create database link statement and surround it with double quotes.

    If you have created the link of database correctly, try an ODBC connection for example from your client and add the user name and password. Does it work?

    Hello

    I am having trouble capturing SQL Server (Express 2008) tables/views/data for Migration to Oracle 11. I was able to connect to the source (SQL Server 2008 Express) and databases of destination (Oracle 11) on the same server (Windows Vista 32 bit). However, when I select objects SQl server (tables or views) and click on "Capture Microsoft SQL Server" or "Table of Capture" etc, nothing happens... No message and the tool is just sitting there. The models 'captured' is empty... Could someone please help? Where can I find the error logs? I followed the instructions as described in the help text and also found that some other people were able to run on SQL Server. I wonder what might be different about my situation.

    Thank you!

    Hello

    SQL Developer Migration Workbench does not yet support the migration to SQL Server 2008.

    See http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/migration/workbench/pdf/migrationdatasheet_15.pdf

    This data sheet lists only the versions of SQL Server 7.0, 2000 and 2005.

    Maybe the next Metalink note allows more:

    Note 393760.1: how to migrate databases non-Oracle, for which an Option of Migration Workbench is not available

    Hi all

    Your help on this issue would be grately appreciated.

    We run a piece of software that come bundled with a specific version of Microsoft SQL 2008 R2. In January, we have built a new server to run this piece of software that we had encountered problems with this affects affecting the network. This time is appears our old COMPUTER vendor installed a copy of the complete software evaluation, this had a 180-day trial period, which you guessed it expired yesterday.

    The software will not work and the only solution seems to be that we pay for SQL server 2008 R2 Standard more to be able to access our data despite an express copy as part of the software. This seems a very costly mistake, I was wondering if anyone has a similar experience of would be able to offer all the words of wisdom.

    RedandBlue,
    The link Shalini gave about the clean boot procedure provides detailed instructions on the use of MSConfig.  I think you have just misunderstood the steps listed above.  When you open msconfig, click on the button beside selective startup. Then uncheck (clear) the box "Load system services" and "Load Startup items" and then apply and restart.

    If you have not seen this thread , you can read through it, because it covers the same error you see. Mike - Engineer Support Microsoft Answers
