switching computers using an external hard drive

I copied my files itunes from computer A on an external drive and connected this player to another one of my computers, say computer B.  I had itunes on computer B.   But iTunes on computer B does not show my music, playlists, etc.

Help, please.

Drag all about iTunes library the external drive, move it to the second computer, start iTunes with the SHIFT key pressed and select. Rentals in it will only play on the computer, in that they were originally downloaded.

Suppose that your external drive to your is connected to PC 1. When you open Windows Explorer on PC1 then this disk will appear as if it was a local, integrated drive. To make it accessible to PC 2, you need to "share". When you type this phrase in a Google search box then you will get many excellent recipes step by step on how to do this:

  • You can use an external hard drive with the Mac Mini?

I've seen videos that say that we cannot increase the ram on a min of Mac, but I'm curious if this works like an ordinary computer, if we can attach an external hard drive to store some of the memory to free up space. Sorry if this is something stupid just need to know what I can do with it.

You can use an external hard drive to boot and run with any Mac. Its not going to improve or replace your ram. If you use a mechanical hard drive in any Mac then help and boot from an external drive, especially if it's a SSD will be significantly faster.

    Hi @ptr1959w!

Yes, you can use an external hard drive on your laptop - just connect via one of the USB ports on your machine, partition and format it in disk management, and you should be ready to go. Here is an article with the steps you can follow to do this:

Hope this helps, and feel free to ask any questions you may have.

    See you soon!

  • can I use an external hard drive to increase the disk space and memory on xp?

I am considering an external hard drive of 1 TB to trasmet all files on the computer. There is little hard drive space and memory left. Can I use the external hard drive free space and can it will be installed via USB and use my operating system?

You can use the external hard drive to transfer your data from your internal hard drive.  Cannot move system files (such as Program Files, Windows and swap files) well.  Looks like your use of the word 'memory' made reference to disk space - it normally refers to which an external drive would not affect RAM.  If you mean disk space, however, you can certainly free SPAC drive this way.

I hope this helps.  Good luck.

  • Use LR5. Because of volume and the size of the photos, I use an external hard drive. When opening LR5 it references only the local hard disk. How can I change the refernce to read the external drive. Thank you

Use LR5, due to volume and the size of the photos, I use an external hard drive. LR refers only the Local Drive C not outside. Where do I change this by LR read the external drive. Grateful for the help.

    Thank you

LR is not a file Explorer. He knows only the disks that you imported photos of.

If you have previously imported these photos, then later moved into the external hard drive, go to the library files and "update location" Panel on the files that you moved.

If you have never imported these images on the external hard drive, perform an import by using the option 'Add' (not ' copy') to keep the images on the external hard drive during import.

  • Using an external hard drive with El Capitan

I connected a Toshiba external hard drive in a macbook pro with OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 to back up some files.

First, he asked if I wanted to use it for time machine. I selected "decide later".

Then, I realized that I could not create a new folder on the hard drive, or I could stick anything on it (to save).

I could copy the HD stuff and paste on my desktop only, but not what I need...

What is a typical problem? Is it because I chose to decide later? Has anyone encountered this before?

(p.s. Please also indicate if the question category, I chose should be changed)

This means generally that the volume is formatted to NTFS, at which case it must be reformatted or software such as Paragon NTFS installed on the Mac. To check, select the volume in the Finder, choose information, look at the format.

In case this happens to a FAT32, exFAT or volume Mac OS extended, either the volume's directory structure is damaged, it is locked in the material or the player has felt that it is about to fail.

  • Use an external hard drive to add storage to an imac

For some reason, I can't find an answer to this anywhere.  I know that you can add more storage to a computer by changing the internal hard drive, but I'm not good with electronics and will attempt rather than.  Is it possible to attach an external hard drive to my iMac (21.5-inch, late 2009, OSX 10.11.3) and have it work as if the computer itself has more storage?  I'm not interested to move the files to the external drive to clear up space already a resident, I want the storage that is already 'the annex'.

    Thank you!

This capability on Macs for a long time. With your model I ecommend a power player, one who possesses its own independent power supply. They are more expensive than the models that do not have a power supply, but are much more relaible.

I use these on all our Macs:

    http://eShop.MacSales.com/shop/FireWire/1394/USB/EliteAL/eSATA_FW800_FW400_USB

Your Mac without any USB 3, I would get the version of reader that has FireWire 800 ports for reliability and better speeds of backup. That drive can be moved to a new Mac when you decide the 2009 model is ready for the retirement home.

I used the readers of 'brand' that the supermarkets put office on sale every weekend, but find them too centered on Windows to always play well with Macs. This is why I spend a little more money for the OWC product. After all, how are your images and data value?

  • Use an external hard drive

I recently bought a new mac with a new operating system. Can I use the same external hard drive to back up with time machine, I used with my old mac, or should I remove the old files and reformat?

Yes, you can, but you can reformat to free up space.

  • Back-Up * two * computers with * a * external hard drive?

I have a Dell desktop computer and a laptop 6358.   Vista on the laptop, XP the other.

I would buy an external hard drive and use it to back up the two systems.

Is it not just possible, but easy to use?  I don't want a fancy coding project, as I am just a user

Other tips suggest it may be better to just get two separate drives, but I thought I would seek some straight dope here in the world of HP.

    Thanks in advance.

If the drive supports USB 2.0, then're you good to go.  If you need to save a file that is greater than 2 GB, then you can benefit with eSATA if taken in charge by your PC.  If you have up to 500 MB of data, then USB 2.0 would be an acceptable compromise.  Remember that the speed of transfer of files more small piles is much slower than a large file.  That's why I like to put important data in a partition logic extendend separate on the same hard drive and use an imaging program to back up this partition on CD, DVD, or another hard drive.  The result is a compressed image unique record about 1/2 the size of the source partition.

  • Using an external hard drive with Windows 7

I soon moved to the States but won't my Pc for a while once there. I intend to take an external hard drive with me to use with your laptop, once arrived in the States. As the laptop will probably have Windows 7 preinstalled, I'll be able to use the data on my drive that came from a Windows XP Pro operating system. Data such as Word, doc, Excel, doc, internet web pages. I do not know the media items will be ok, but not sure about programs etc.

    slammpro

Yes (assuming that the laptop has the necessary applications installed, such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and everything you use for your media files or applications).
