I am faced with the following question:

On a database of eBS 11.1 data, I see that all known "sqlplus / as sysdba ' does not work, he responds with: become insufficient

I have the password and as far as I can see, so the SYS password gets validated positively, but then he says I have to use the SYSDBA role to login as SYS, and that's the problem.

So, I'm looking for a solution for this problem. Maybe if I can connect as SYS, but WITHOUT the SYSDBA role, which can solve the problem as well.

What happened to cause this (because it must have worked in a first time), there was a database upgrade, which may have been the cause of this problem.

The eBS environment is a Vision 12.1.3

It is not a production, or a copy of a production database (to be clear about this)

  • Developer unable to connect SQL database Oracle as a SYSDBA

    Hi all
Recently, I installed SQL Developer3.0 on my machine and try to create the connection to the local Oracle server. But something confuses me. When I login as normal role, it can connect DB successfully; When I connect as sysdba role named sys, it has always failed and show "name of user and password invalid. I don't know that the username and password are right, because I haved connected the oracle DB from pl/SQL with the same user name and password. And I also chose the role as sysdba. SQL Developer3.0 not support connect as sysdba? I would be very grateful if someone could give me a helping hand. Thanks in advance.

    Hi 851634,

Do you need a password for remote sysdba (old link) file?
Cannot connect as sysdba in Oracle Enterprise Management Console

You can try to open a session (loopback) on the network as sysdba, which requires a password file.

Do not assume that everywhere where NOLOG is mentioned it means no. LOGGINg:-D. By sqlplus / nolog, you did nothing but had just the sql command prompt without really connecting as any user. You will still need to connect, by some users to start your work. This has NOTHING to do with do it again / cancel and anything else.

The other command will actually to connect as user Sys with Sysdba role.

  • Backingup database using SQL script

    Hello

Let me start by saying I am new to Oracle and I'm learning how to do a project where I have to write a SQL script that allows you to back up all data files (i.e. control, redo log and data files).  Assuming that all the files are stored in a folder, the source locations and the destination of these files must be provided as 'substitution variables.  The script must implement the following tasks (directions)

    1. Log in as the SYS user with SYSDBA role
    2. Closing the database
    3. Copy the files to the location of the source database and store it in the destination location
    4. Restart the database
    5. Log in the user SCOTT

In addition, the script must use the "HOST" command to publish the operating system command to perform the copy task.

    * Since this is just a learning project and not a real scenario, I can't run my script in SQLplus to verify if it is correct. That's why I ask for professional advice. I am currently working with Oracle 11 g Enterprise running on a client Windows XP OS.

Here's what I decided, it's a cold backup, please let me know if what I do is correct so far, and if not can you please steer me in the right direction.

connect SYS / < password > have SYSDBA

    Shutdown;

Copy of HOST of & source_file to & destination_file;       -It is the line that confuses me.

connect SYS / < password > have SYSDBA

    start-up;

    Connect scott/tiger

Thanks in advance for your time and input.

I currently have the free version of 11g Oracle Enterprise downloaded on my computer, running on VB with the client Windows XP OS. But being new to this that I find myself afraid of bad script execution that can break my DB. I know that I can just reload and try again, but I try to approach the question as carefully as possible. Although the error codes help me understand what I am doing wrong much of the time.

Break things (and their fixation) is how to learn.  Because you are running in VBox, simply take a snapshot of vbox system before testing.  So if it is irrevocably broken, you just restore the snapshot system.

But give what you're trying to do, what do you think might happen this may break your db?  As far as the db is concerned, everything you do connect, stop and commissioning.  Nothing can go off of the truth of that.

The "Utilities" option is available during the installation of the apex is "runtime" only mode? • "Gathering stats" generates everything again?

    Hello

The alerts log, I noticed that the issue of the archiver that happened, say at 17:00. I deleted the archive logs at 19:00. But I see a few tablesthat were 'last_analyzed' at 18:00 (same day).

This means the process gather stats does not generate redo everything?

So, another question that came to my mind is that:

I know that Oracle would not new connections during this situation (except for users of SYSDBA role) - Oracle put on all LMD would hold until the problem is solved? If this isn't the case, whence the info again go?

    Thank you!

Yes, all the dml will be put on hold.  Otherwise, how oracle would preserve the stream it again?

Oracle wrote that Redo to a group of log redo given until this redolog is full.

He then spent the next redolog group.  then the other.  then another, until he went through all the groups.  Then he returned to the first.  In archivelog mode if it cannot write to this group until it has been archived.  If it has not been archived (hung archiver or archiveing simply going so slowly as to not completed, writing redo (and thus the completion of the dml that generated it) must wait until it can be written.)  If it didn't, you would lose the record of these changes and their valuation could be lost forever.  If oracle is allowed only, what would be the point to even maintain a redo log, check-in much less it?

And then I create a table called Table1. And then I create a new USER and I Connect with the same SID of the database, but the role has the DEFAULT value for this new USER...

So I guess that you have created the table in the SYS schema. You should never, ever create user objects in the SYS schema. If you have created the table in the SYS schema, you really need to drop and create in a more appropriate scheme.

You indicate that you come from SQL Server, so there may be a question of terminology. Which refers to SQL Server as a "database" is roughly equivalent to what Oracle designates as a "scheme." An Oracle database contains many schemas. A schema is the set of objects owned by a particular user.

    01. but the problem is that I can't find the Table1 table for this new user... so how acess as Table1...?

As I said above, you really, really should not create objects in the SYS schema. If you really want, however, you need to log the SYS schema and grant access on the table to your new user

GRANT SELECT ON sys.table1 TO your_new_user

You will then need to fully qualify the table name in your SELECT (or create a synonym or the current_schema)

    SELECT *
      FROM sys.table1

    02. I came to know in Oracle, also we can design forms for the frontend and can generate EXE... Is this true?

Older versions of Oracle Forms would create server executables. The modern versions are used to create three-tier applications. You can also use APEX to build web applications. Of course, you can also generate executables by writing code in another language (often .net).

    03. in SQL Server - Sql Port with static IP - we have access to the database for remote users... Is it possible for Oracle?

Is this possible? Sure. Depending on what means "remote users", however, it may be poorly advised - you would never open a database to the internet directly, for example, you want to ensure that the remote users are connected to your network (via a virtual private network).

Please tell me what are the differences between these two commands:

    RMAN/RMAN@ORCL catalog RMAN

This is happening to you the recovery catalog database but not connect to the target database. So you must issue a further statement while connected to RMAN to connect to the target database. Here the user RMAN is the catalog name of the owner.

    Catalog RMAN target scott/tiger RMAN/RMAN@ORCL

You try to connect to the database target db user RMAN catalog as user Scott.

Here the user scott is too have DBA role. Recovery catalog owner is rman. I wish to test backup and restore, as well as the above command must be used.

The backup will be done using the Sysdba role, not with the DBA role. So you must still issue the command to connect to the target db. In the 2nd order you establish this connection and in 1, you must take another step for him.

    Hello

Check the database connection properties. Maybe you specify the default role rather than the SYSDBA role. That goes into the credentials, of course. Unfortunately, the first half of the error message is somewhat misleading, but in the end requires you to verify the credentials.

You can run this query on a connection with the appropriate privileges to see which users are allowed SYSDBA.

    Hello;

I'm glad to hear that this had to be a ton of work.

Q: IS the orapw file already in the dbs folder? Yes, otherwise Data Guard would never work.

Q: why the tns-12514 error? It makes no sense to me. Are the names of the same patterns if yes how to delete and recreate. Is there any change this process affects the SYS schema?

Made curious password for Data Guard

Not only Data Guard requires a password file, but it also expects SYS to grant SYSDBA role.

Data Guard searches the password in $ORACLE / dbs (OK, not so strange).

V$ pwfile_users can provide a clue as to your question.

Password file works different in Oracle 11 Oracle Data Guard 10.

In Oracle 11 as the REDO_TRANSPORT_USER parameter can be used to select one different user SYS to authenticate redo them transport sessions. This user must have the SYSOPER privilege.

In the CARS for the primary and Standby, check the time stamps of all files on password and copy it later to all nodes.

In Oracle 11, you can create is no longer simply a new password for the database file physical standby. You must still copy the password of database primary in all physical databases ensures whenever a password for privileged user is changed (I wonder if she's?)

  • Granting of privileges to another user

    Hello

I'm new to plsql. During my apprenticeship. I created two paintings, BOOKS and AUTHORS in database(10g) by SYSDBA orcl.

Yet once I logged user SCOTT account and I am unable to see tables of BOOKS and AUTHORS.

Please let me know how to grant privileges to administrator (to edit, delete, insert and update) to the user SCOTT for these tables.

    Thank you and best regards,

    2. I was able to connect to sqlplus by giving "/ as SYSDBA" under the user name. That's why I felt it as a user.

"/ as sysdba" connects to the database that the SYS user using operating system with the SYSDBA role authentication enabled.

    3. in the second place, I don't know what my table BOOKS belong to the. Because I just ran a script to create table in scott/tiger@orcl. Please suggest how can I know what pattern belongs to.

If you connected to the database as user SCOTT and run the script to create the table, the table would be almost certainly owned by SCOTT. If you connected to the database as the user SYS and run the script to create the table, the table would be most likely owned by SYS. If the script specified in the schema owner, i.e.

    CREATE TABLE library.book ...

the table should be created in the specified schema. But you must have privileges very powerful to create objects in the patterns of the other user and SCOTT does not have these privileges, unless you have specifically granted them.

    4. in the third place, I delete the BOOKS and the AUTHORS of SYS and create them in the user SCOTT. But thought if GRANT privileges may be an alternative.

Not really. It is often best to have the paintings belonging to the correct schema in the first place. You use grants to allow other users to access (or modify) the tables but other users will not have the same level of privileges (for example, they will be able to run the DDL against the table).
