The desktop icons back to the generic icon of IE

I use Vista Home Premium on a new computer.  When to create internet related shortcuts (e.g. Yahoo) I get a generic IE icon 'E '.  After changing by another icon, so that they don't look alike, on reboot they come back to the generic 'E '.  When I click right and select Properties, it shows the icon I have chosen, but this is not what is displayed on the desktop.  This is not good for re - change the icon, they remain as 'E '.  In addition, why on my old computer, the shortcut icon copies the company icon (e.g. red 'Y' for Yahoo) but is not here?  Thanks for any advice.

This means that you must click on the link that I gave you the solution. "Custom" icons, you get Web sites are called "favicon". The Web page to which I gave you the link tells you how to activate the favicons in Vista.

Try this tutorial. It worked for me when I had Vista 32 bit. I used to have more than 150 shortcuts on deskops, and they tended to move 'by themselves' as you said. This tutorial below worked for me.

My desktop icons suddenly got larger and moved all around.  How can I get back them to the small size and keep them I would like them?

    Hello

You will remember to do recent changes on the computer before this problem?

I suggest you to change the size of the icons and check if the problem persists. Follow the steps mentioned below:

    a. right click on the desktop, click view , and turn off the Auto Arrange.

    b. after above step. Right click on the desktop, click view choose on the icon size you want and check if the problem persists.

  • Action of the desktop icon

I keep having problems with my desktop icons.  The icons on my desktop are normally appear when the system is booted initially every morning.  I click an icon to open a software package, and it will open the corrent package.  I will, when I'm thru using this package, close this window through the X.  Here's where abnormal things happen... the icons to load quickly one at a time, often from a screen of a generic icon.  Immediately after that the generic icons are loaded, the non-generic icons will load above the generic icons.  The total duration of the loading icon and redo is just a matter of seconds.

The likely problem is associated with the IconCash.db file?  (I don't know about this file by reading articles on the web.  What I have read it makes me think that this IconCash.db file is possibly corrupted.)

I find an IconCache.db file on my system - C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data.  The size of this file is 3 111 Ko with an update on 04/05/2009, 19:30.  Y at - he a clue here that this file is obsolete... swollen... or just the one that should be remade?  If so, how can I make this happen?  I hope that this action will you not get involved with registry... a place where I have rarely, if ever get.  Please bring any help and/or instructions enough for a beginner to follow clearly maintenance.

  • HP Start Menu and the desktop icons for HP printer Diagnostic tools

    Hello world

I have a HP Desktop F4440 all-in-one printer and I use the Windows XP operating system. I have all the scanning software and others installed from the original HP installation disk or updates from the HP Web site for this printer. Everything works very well at the moment, but there is a small problem. The HP icon shortcuts for the Menu start-up and functions for the printer changed to a generic icon at a time given to these two places after the software installation CD was used by me to install the printer programs or desktop icon HP to utilities "Diagnostic Tools HP printer" original. It works fine otherwise, when I want to go check something on the Tools of diagnosis HP printer or HP Solution Center, but the HP icon changed to a generic at a time for a reason unknown, inexplicable. I don't have no changes to my system until the problem occurred to my knowledge other casual upgrade for the operating system or install a new windows update or HP software updates or restart the computer, but some schooner point after one of these upgrades, HP put to date or restart the HP start menu and desktop icons time replaced by a generic.

Can someone tell me how I can recover the original HP icon and get her back Amendment? It was an icon on the web since the HP printer Diagnostics utility or function is based on the web. Is there a way I can save a copy of just the file on my computer icon so that if it goes back to that generic again once I can more easily change what it is supposed to be? I thank very you much for your help and advice.

    Hi there yoseph13,

What has happened to me too, but after a windows update. Half the icons on my desktop have been affected. I hope that this fix works for you as well. Right-click on the icon. Go to properties. Click Change icon. Select the icon and click ok then apply and ok again. If the icon does not appear, you will need to navigate to the folder of the software and select the application.

    Good luck!

  • hide the desktop icons

I guess that you don't want an AppleScript object parked on your desktop or Dock that someone could run to display the icons on your desktop. This is a Bash script that displays an AppleScript dialog box to allow you a choice of a normal life (crowded) or share (naked) desktop. Tested on OS X 10.11.4.

Screen sharing will clear your desk of all. Normal will bring back the clutter.

  • My iMac will be either reboot or shutdown of the apple desktop icon

My iMac will be either reboot or shutdown of the apple on the desktop icon. Items saved on the desktop disappear and the menu from the top of the screen disappears, then it is just in this mode for ever more. I then use the switch to stop, which is clearly not the best way to ensure the longtivity of my system.  I use El Capitan 10.11.3 [latest version] I have tried the following but still the same issue.

    1. I ran disk utility, but no hard drive errors appear.
    2. I stop after having disconnected all my other connections (USB components, components lightning etc.), but still no change.

Before you contact Apple directly, just wondering if anyone else out there he has a similar problem. I had my hard drive 3 TB replaced a few months back, in line with a reminder official apple and this problem started to reign around one month or later.

Open your registry database and find the key below.

Create a new DWORD value named "NoActiveDesktop", and set the new value to equal "1" to enable the restriction or "0" to disable the restriction.

This restriction can be used either on a basis by individual user by adding it to HKEY_CURRENT_USER or on a computer wide basis by adding it to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.

    (Default) REG_SZ (value not set)
    NoActiveDesktop REG_DWORD 0x00000001 (1)
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\...
    Registry settings

    Key system: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\
    Explorer]
    Value name: NoActiveDesktop
    Data type: REG_DWORD (DWORD value)

Value data: (0 = disable restriction, 1 = enable restriction)

You can try this and make sure you back up everything first to register, create a point of restoration before the attempt, restart after changing. Open the registry, check to see if the key is there.

XP... The desktop icons will not put. I did a lot of research on this issue, read the different responses on many forums, including and have tried much of the recommendations... I'm not familiar with the functions of establishment of the arrangement of the desktop icon and this is the first time I met this kind of problem. "Lock Web items on desktop" is checked, "Snap to grid" is not checked (my preference, but I find that it will check mysteriously itself after the icons rearrange themselves to the left of the screen, apparently by making use of automatic reorganization, even if it is not checked), I tried securityguy14 registry change response dated December 7, 2009 , have installed and use the program "Icon restore" that changes the Recycle Bin, my computer, and another icon of office, I do not remember to add a backup/restore function for the setting icon on the desktop... is what bought me a brief period of mental health before they rearrange themselves after a few constantly unidentifable strike entered sometimes without "rhyme or reason", not unique to anything, preventing me from shrink down to a specific cause. I conducted several audits of malware with paid and free programs and there is no indication of anything invading my system, it works fine other wise. Help!
