  I suggest you unregister and re-register the windows service installed on your computer and check if it helps you fix Windows install error problem and if you can install updates for Adobe Acrobat Reader.

  A. click on the Start menu, click on run.
  (B) in the Open box, type msiexec /unreg and then press ENTER.
  (C) in the Start menu, click run.
  (D) in the Open box, type msiexec/regserver, and then press ENTER.

  Restart the computer and try to install the updates to check if the process worked.

  It is perhaps a silly question, but have you run the installer after downloading the reader? (It can be the installation icon that you see on your desktop). If you have run Setup, try restarting your computer, and then see if the drive appears in your list of installed programs.

  The only other thing I can recommend is to try to download via the links on this page: download Pro or Standard versions of Acrobat DC, XI or X

  Whenever I have problems to download (in general, not specifically with Adobe) with my standard browser (i.e. Safari on Mac OS), I try Chrome.
